That turn up errors of 'wrong path' or 'incorrect syntax'. In the 'real' MSDOS world, there are NO spaces in file/folder names. XP tosses grand folders with spaces such as Documents and Settings....but the typing of such a folder name in the MSDOS window (cmd) gives you those errors I mentioned and most people give up out of frustration trying to figure it out and typing the name without the spaces or using the 8.3 old MSDOS method with the ~ doesn't work either, such as documents What you have to do is literally fill in the spaces by using a question mark where the space would be and type the whole folder/file name...such as Document and Settings. Do this for each subpath folder/file as well and you will get where you need to be. Totally a PITA, but it works.
I'm trying to add a path value to my existing path statement for XP (via control panenel->system, advanced tab, environment) but it is truncated. If the size limit is 1023 chars, then I'm well under this.I change the PATH variable via:Right click My Computer, Properties, Advanced tab;
I have a client who has a Dell Vostro 2510. I installed the Alps touchpad driver which on all my other laptops has a disable tapping feature, but for some reason that feature is not present for this laptop Am I using the wrong type of driver?
When I sign on windows with the right password, it works just fine and everything loads up. However, when I happen to type out my massive password wrong the following error comes up:MCI Command Handling Window: winlogon.exe.The instruction at 0x0179116e reference memory at 0x0070ffff. The memory could not be read.I'm running XPPro. I recently reformatted my entire PC and I've never had this happen before reinstalling XP. I don't know what specifically the error stems from cause I installed so much stuff in one day. It was all the same stuff I've had on the PC before. Other accounts across the net, however, did NOT also reformat, so I'm thinking it must be something to do with a virus or some error in SP2 or windows update. I've done a virus scan and found nothing.
With certain pop-up stoppers, my pop-ups stop, but are replaced with script errors. This is almost just as annoying. Here is how you can get rid of most of those script errors:Open up Internet Explorer, click on Tools, select Internet options, click the advanced tab, and under the Browsing section, be sure that the Display a notification about every script error is unchecked
when I start my ms outlook 2007 I get this error. "Errors have been detected in the file 'file_path'. Quit all mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool." I tried to scan with scanpst.exe but it went in vain.I tried it with other applications it worked fine.But,the problem is they all are demo versions and I gets back only 5 to 6 mails for more mails i have to buy that applications. Do we have any free tool that can fix my problem or any other way to fix this.
Is there some place that I can search to see if windows files/commands are legitimate? I have Zone Alarm and it has programs on it trying to access the Internet that I do not recognize. Another one was: Microsoft Out of Bounds. I have Windows XP Home Edition with all updates.I have ZoneAlarm free and McAffee AntiVirus.Nothing has been detected.
I downloaded some windows updates but not all of them installed. When I go to Turn Off Computer, the "Turn Off" button has changed, indicating that when I hit it, it will install the updates. There's also a field I can click which will Turn Off without installing the updates. When I click the Turn Off buttion, it attempts to install two updates. It doesn't appear to be successful. Every time I Turn Off Computer it apparently tries to install the same two updates. I can reboot and do this over and over and they don't "take".There's nothing in Event Viewer to indicate what's going on. I couldn't find any installation logs though I'm not sure where to look.
When I start the computer, I get a screen freeze and have to press Ctrl,Alt,Del once before any programs will startup. A lot of probs with internet connection and slowness while surfing as well as a lot of pop up ads in my face.
There are system boxes coming up with registry and dll errors and the whole system seems SLOW.
The family computer is playing up and to the best of my knowledge the computer in question just simply suddenly stopped working as it should. I am unable to get the 'default' welcome screen upon start up and am getting the logon box where you type in a username and passworld. I know how to get rid of this, user accounts>enable welcome screen - but it will not solve the problem.This is just the start of the problems. I get a whole host of errors which popup one after another.
I am being shown "script error","page error, you may need to change browser settings",and "behind firewall" when I try and send files and photos. I've tried everything I know to fix this, but I still see these errors and still cannot send photos while I'm online.
Okay so I usually leave my computer on all the time. I went to bed and when I got up it was off and couldn't get it to turn on. So I assumed it might be the power supply so I went and bought a new one from stamples. He turned on for maybe 5 seconds then turned off. so I took it back thinking maybe I didn't have enough watts. The higher watts didn't doanything. I am lost without my computer can anyone help? I have Win XP..Could it be the fan? Even though the fan worked when i plugged in first PS...Second didnt do anything. Could it be something to do with motherboard?

there is no cd-rom driver on my computer, but I have made a copy of source file on the hard disk. now windows file protection ask me to insert the windows xp cd into the cd-rom driver, But I can not. So, how can not reset the installation path to the hard disk, then the windows file protection will not ask for the CD disk again?
I was wondering if anyone knows the file path ( if there is one) that would let you open the recycle bin via task manager (new task run) under win2k pro? I just had a call from a friend who, after installing google tool bar (by "mistake" )then used the search function and removed all of the files by hand .The end result was that the pc hung, and when she restarted explorer.exe does not start,(therefore no desktop, start menu etc) task manager does however function and i have managed to get her to open programs that way As she deleted the files to the recycle bin i was wondering if there is a way to restore them by opening the recycle bin threw task manager? if there is then presumably i would need to give her the file path, and was wondering :- A/ if it is possible to do this & B/ (if it is) if any kind person knows the file path to the recycle bin .exe ? I realize that this might not be possible and it might seem a lot more involved than simply poping in the win2k CD and doing a repair on the OS, but having done this with her before i know it will mean spelling out every action.
I keep getting the following message when I am online and want to view a video:Windows cannot access the specified device path or file you may not have appropriate permissions to access.This just started a week or so ago.I get regular updates from Microsoft and I'm wondering if one of those updates caused my problem. Now I can't even download anything like pdf files or new programs if I am using IE7.
I guess the question asks what I'd like to know. I'm trying to set up the programmable keys on my new keyboard and I'm supposed to type in the file paths.
I'm sure this has been asked and answered but I couldn't find it with a search so here goes again.Is there a way to change the file path for the desktop in Windows 2000 without a tweak tool? I'd prefer a simple registry edit if possible.I would like to store the files on my desktop to another partition than my default profile path under C:
