I can't seem to get the path working right somehow. I started cmd, and tried to start dmd.exe (digital mars d compiler), which resides in c:dmdin from outside its directory.cmd says that it's not an internal or extenal command etc.I swear the c:dmdin dir is in my path

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anyone knows the file path ( if there is one) that would let you open the recycle bin via task manager (new task run) under win2k pro? I just had a call from a friend who, after installing google tool bar (by "mistake" )then used the search function and removed all of the files by hand .The end result was that the pc hung, and when she restarted explorer.exe does not start,(therefore no desktop, start menu etc) task manager does however function and i have managed to get her to open programs that way As she deleted the files to the recycle bin i was wondering if there is a way to restore them by opening the recycle bin threw task manager? if there is then presumably i would need to give her the file path, and was wondering :-
A/ if it is possible to do this &
B/ (if it is) if any kind person knows the file path to the recycle bin .exe ? I realize that this might not be possible and it might seem a lot more involved than simply poping in the win2k CD and doing a repair on the OS, but having done this with her before i know it will mean spelling out every action.
I keep getting the following message when I am online and want to view a video:Windows cannot access the specified device path or file you may not have appropriate permissions to access.This just started a week or so ago.I get regular updates from Microsoft and I'm wondering if one of those updates caused my problem. Now I can't even download anything like pdf files or new programs if I am using IE7.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am still working on this one. Okay, a Dell Desktop running XP Home. An IBM laptop running the same. DSL and a Lynksys Wireless B router connecting all. AGV anti virus on Dell. All adapters attached. Norton on laptop. File and printer sharing enabled on both. Of course, there's the Windows Firewall on both. I can ping the laptop from the dell but can't ping the dell from the laptop. I get the message no network drive/resource. Can someone please tell me what I am missing?

I think the program is located in the maps folder. The problem, I think is with the \ in the syntax. How do I make the location agree with the \maps folder?

Specifically, this error appears when attempting to open one of these: On some help forums rundll32 was pointed to as the cause of the problem, and I found entries in Comodo's Defense+ Log where various programs (mostly explorer.exe) were calling rundll32.exe, but it was being blocked everytime.I have tried disabling Comodo (and ending the proccess) but it doesn't make a difference.

For reasons that are too complicated to explore here I cleaned my 140 gig Seagate C Drive (no, not that reason) with two wipes using the Kill Disk programme. I then re-installed XP Pro which also includes a formatting phase. All appeared well as I installed AVG anti-virus, Zone Alarm Pro, and Ad Aware; I then loaded Picasa, Adobe and all the bits and pieces that make for fun and utility.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy 2nd drive isn't allowing me to delete any files from it. when i try i get an error that reads "error deleting file cannot find specified path". this started occurring when the wires on the drive came loose causing the drive to intermittently lose power. i fixed that and now i'm screwed.what i've done: i tried deleting from safe mode and that didn't work. i checked all the wires on my drives and they are fine now. i got a program called "moveonboot" that deleted a few files, but i want to fix the problem, not find a way around it.

For example, I can not run ping.exe, attrib.exe, etc. unless I actually put in the full path to my system32 folder or navigate to that folder first. When I type "Set" at the command prompt, I see that my path statement contains:
"Path=%SystemRoot%system32;%SystemRoot%". So, why doesn't XP use this at the command prompt?The env variables are good. When I type "cd %systemroot%system32", it will properly go to C:windowssystem32.Just for clarification; when I talk about the command prompt, I am talking about typing CMD from the run box, or "Open command window here" from Explorer right click.
When I click on the START menu, why is there no path for me to be able to look at say, C:/my documents/my pictures etc...There is nothing there like it is in other Windows programs I have used. Also when I right click on a program and try to "pin to start menu", there is no option for that, only the shortcut option.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThat turn up errors of 'wrong path' or 'incorrect syntax'. In the 'real' MSDOS world, there are NO spaces in file/folder names. XP tosses grand folders with spaces such as Documents and Settings....but the typing of such a folder name in the MSDOS window (cmd) gives you those errors I mentioned and most people give up out of frustration trying to figure it out and typing the name without the spaces or using the 8.3 old MSDOS method with the ~ doesn't work either, such as documents What you have to do is literally fill in the spaces by using a question mark where the space would be and type the whole folder/file name...such as Document and Settings. Do this for each subpath folder/file as well and you will get where you need to be. Totally a PITA, but it works.
