How To Change The System Id On Laptop
Feb 4, 2010
I have an Acer one ZG5 laptop and I need to change the system ID. I purchased "RadioGet" great program, but it installs to a specific system ID and they want me to purchase it again apparently cause they won't respond to my emails. If there is a way to change it Please Let me know. I got a worm virus that made it past McAfee (probably my fault) and had to re-install XP.

Some time ago I booted up my computer,to find that my XP switched to Windows classic style,I didn't take it seriously so I went to properties to change when I get an error message saying there is a problem with run32.dll,not only that, but the visual styles can't load I assume, becuase of run32.dll,so now I'm stuck with the piece of s*** style.

I have a HP ze5568cl laptop (Windows XP SP2). For a few years we've had trouble with the power connector. We've just wiggled the power cable to keep it connected and lived with the problem. It also gets very hot and the fan runs constantly. Yesterday when I powered it on there was no power, absolutely nothing. My husband has some electronic knowledge so we took the laptop apart and he soldered the loose part of the power connector. While he was doing that I cleaned the fan (couldn't believe how much dust was in there. When we plugged in the power cable the orange light came on so we were excited. When we powered it on all the keyboard lights lit up so we thought we had fixed the problem but.that's all it did. It went no further except that the fan kicked on.There is a clicking noise coming from the cd drive about every second with the green light flashing. I suppose it is checking to see if there is a bootable cd in the cd drive. I have attempted to change the boot order by holding F1, then F2 but it still continues to try to read the cd drive. I can't get to the screen that will allow me to change the boot order.
I also put the OS disk in the cd drive, hoping that it would start with the disk but it just clicks. Hubby removed the cover of the cd drive and I could see that the cd is spinning. There were no problems with this laptop prior to the power problem. It was really working very well especially considering the age of it.
The information in my sig is not for the computer with the problem. It's actually for an old computer which my son now has at college.

Last year I installed Windows XP on my pc. During the installation it ask me to choose ntsf or fat 32. I made a mistake I think and chose ntsf. I know the system was fat 32 when I bought it with Windows ME installed. This computer has not worked well since I did the new install. Is it possible to change it back to fat 32 or do I need to do a new install?

I have two hard drives in my computer, the first with Windows XP installed and the second with Windows XP x64 and Windows 7 installed. I never use Windows XP anymore so my plan was to delete it and copy the 64 bit installation to that drive, but as it turns out the XP partition is the system partition. From what I've read in similar topics, I could format the drive and then use the Windows 7 disk to do a startup repair. As a test I set the XP partition to inactive and used the Windows 7 disk, I learned that the disk dosent even see the Windows 7 installation unless the XP partition is active, it also tells me that Windows 7 is installed on drive C which is false. I figured these tings would work themselves out and deleted the XP partition anyway. I had to recover it to get my computer to boot again but now it goes straight into 7 without giving me the choice to boot into XP or XP 64. Is my problem a little more complex because im working with three operating systems? Please tell me what I can do to fix all of this and achieve my original goal.

1. Get a copy of Microangelo.
2. While Microangelo is downloading you need to make 2 backups of any files that you will be replacing. for this example we will use shell32.dll This file is located at c:windowssystem32shell32.dll. To view these files you need to turn off 'Hide protected operating system files' and 'Show hidden files and folders' in the view tab of the folder options under tools in my computer. One of these backups is for editing purposes and the other is pure backup.
3. Once Microangelo is downloaded and installed, open librarian. librarian is an application that can open up exe's and just about any file with embedded icons.
4. Once librarian is opened, open the first backup of that shell32.dll file. and VoilĂ !! Tons of icons, actually most of the icons in the entire system. :) ........

I just upgraded my "guts" (mobo, ram, cpu) and am trying to get all set up. I installed windows XP on a brand new hard drive on a newly created partition. On the setup screen, it says C: Partition1 [NTFS] I left some unpartitioned space on the new drive for a later win xp 64bit version install and I also have another HD that is listed as D: Partition1. After the install, my system disk drive letter was F: and my other HD letter was E: I go to disk management and I can change my second HD letter but it won't let me change my system drive letter back to C:. How do I get my system drive letter back to C:?

the laptop is very slow. how slow? it takes 14.5 min to boot up.it takes 4 min to get the outline of a window when i click on IE and 3 more min to get the home page up. ( Google.com) it is like this for any other app i try to open. ( the Start button takes about 35 sec to open) it is the same when connected to my lan or when it is a stand alone. So, i did a format and a re install, not once, but twice. i continue to run AVG scans, and spyware scans they always come out clean. And the laptop is still the same.
the laptop is: a P M 1.7 Gig with 256 meg of ram running windows 2000 pro. (format is NTFS) i have a P III 500 gig with the same ram that runs rings around this laptop.
did a mem test 86 and it passed all tests. ran Sea tools (all tests) passed.
