Is it ok to keep my laptop on all the time? Am constantly downloading stuff so i leave it day and night on. I just thought that maybe it requires some hours off too. I don't want to burn it or laptops are capable to be operational all the time?
View 7 Repliesi do scans quite a bit and delete alot of things everytime. there is the msn spyware thing that keeps coming back after i delete that, as well as many other things i dont even know about. some of my devices just shut them selves down from time to time (mouse, scanner/printer, and otherthings i cant remember but the key board is fine) and after a few seconds turn back on. and the whole thing just crashes sometimes. i did that scan thing but im not sure if i did it right.

I am trying to use the system restore function on windows XP, but every time i select a restore point and the system reboots, it says that the restoration was incomplete and "no changes have been made." I have tried multiple restore points. Microsoft.com suggested that i verify that the task manager, WMI, and system restore services were running, and they are. I also tried disabling my antivirus program, but the same thing happens.

View 1 Replies View RelatedLately i've been having some problems with my pc. Some of the programs that i use seem to have an error with it. For example, when i'm using opera a box pops up saying an error has occured with opera and needs to shut down the program (asking me whether to send an error report or not).This is not the only program that does this. Even Media player, bittorrent, winamp, windows messenger, actually its most programs.Sometimes i get an error with 'DrWatson Postmortem Debugger' which causes my pc to lock up.A few times i got a blue screen error. Each time that happens the pc restarts itself and then i get another message saying 'system has recovered from a serious error', again asking me to send an error report or not.

It occurs in Word, Wordperfect, and in my webmail text writing. This is not a normal timed backup which, on this fast machine, only takes a heartbeat.I also get funny occassional screen flashes as if a capture is taking place.I have Spybot S&D; Spyware Blaster; webroot; AVG antivirus; Process Guard; Wormguard; and a private firewall in addition to the windows firewall. All scans show nothing of concern.

View 12 Replies View RelatedMy computer started acting up, and I couldn't play any games.WoW mainly -(Yes I play it) and Cod4, So finally I managed to fix it myself and this is what I did. Went into device manager, disabled then enabled my GFX card, Then I have to go into display properties and change 3D acceleration to 0 then back to full, Also when I do this it corrects my resolution.
However, EVERY time I power down my computer, I have to do this which get's very annoying
I'm using a different computer, than my not working one to post this. My other computer has frequent crashes like when i click certain things. It says beginning dump of physical memory in a blue screen and counts up from 1 at the bottom of the screen. It takes forever so i Just restart the computer. I downloaded and installed a BIOS update, tried a different graphics card, tried different RAM chips, tried a different processor, and it still happens.

It is a couple of years old now and,my last laptop died after about the same time so hopefully someone can shed some light.The system will start up and i can use the it with out any trouble but it is anoying to have to sit for up to 5 - 10 minutes while it runs the check every time.

I thought I took really good care of my computer. Bought it this year February (fujitsu lifebook n6010). Run adaware, spybot search & destroy, crapcleaner, registry mechanic, registry fix, diskclean up (only compress old files), and defrag about every 2 weeks
my PC is very sensitive....when left idle it takes about 5 minutes just to changes web pages.Sometimes it is running well, sometimes it is really slow. I am using windows XP and have firewall and AVG. Can anybody help?

I tried to double click the clock at the bottom right side of the computer screen but it does not respond. The time and date window will not pop up so i can reset it. I tried the control panel clicked on dates, times, language, and regional options then i clicked change the date and time but when i click that option nothing appeared.I even click the change the format ... but i can't change the time. So that's my question.I am using AVG free edition but it is in error state and it will not allowed me to update because my computer date is not correct.

Checking out some other boot times my system seems abit slow.. or it's me being impatiant. My Boot Time is 38 seconds. I've tried every trick on the web i can find.. Programs, Reg edits, MSConfig etc.. and nothing seems to be saving me anytime at all.the only thing that saved me time was uninstalling Zone Alarm saving me 8 seconds, going from 46secs to 38secs.

View 14 Replies View RelatedThe computer uses XP home and is set for automatic updates.Every time I switch off it says it is installing update 1 of 1 even if I have not been connected to the net.When I tried using manual update I was told that the installation of <Windows Installer 3.1> had failed.Is the computer trying to install this same thing every time?If it is how do I get it to install properly or remove it from the list of programs ready to be installed?I think that when I installed the drivers for the motherboard this installer, or an earlier version, was installed by the Intel download.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI've recently allowed Microsoft to install his WGA program because I have a genuine copy of Windows XP installed on my computer. After this wga.exe got installed my computer get's unstabled and cause several instance of a process called dumprep.exe to consume all your cpu time and memory usage leaving my computer unstable which causes my mouse pointer difficult to control until I end these instance of this process. I know how to unstall this WGA but if I do then I won't get any crital update. Have anyone else experience this problem?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout 2 months ago I had to replace the hard drive. It was a WD40 gig. I chose a Seagate PATA160 gig. It works good but since that time it takes a long time to boot up. Would a new, larger drive need more memory. I didn't add anything else.

So whenever i start up the computer once it hits the Blue Welcome Xp screen it will stay there for atleast 30sec, i mean my mouse shows and i can move it but im just waitin there until it fully loads. Once it goes to the main screen everythin else loads with no problem. So, i have run many malware/spyware programs and nothing.

The date goes back to Nov. 2003. Once I correct the date, time and year things seem to perform ok.
