Error : Sorry For Inconvenience But Windows Did't Start
Mar 17, 2007
My computer is currently running Windows XP Home. When i turn it on i get the error message that reads: Sorry for the inconvenience but windows did't start successfully. It then asks me whether i want to start windows in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration, or start windows normally. If i i choose to use the last known good configuration, windows begins to load but then a blue error screen appears and the computer restarts quickly again to the same screen. If i choose any of the other options the computer restarts and eventually ends up at the windows loaded unsuccessfully screen. I would just use my Windows XP disk to either repair or reinstall windows but i use an external cd drive and it does not appear in the boot sequence.
Before I describe it in length, Here are a few things about my system, my OS, my hardware:I use an iMac that runs XP on a partition using Bootcamp. I use this mainly for gaming and Steam, so I don't necessarily care about wiping the hard drive... but I haven't been able to find my XP disc and it would generally be favorable (although not crucial) if there were a fix that doesn't involve losing all my stuff on XP and suffering through 50 GB of re-installations. I also have Avast! and haven't downloaded anything (outside of downloads while joining servers in Source engine games) within the previous 48 hours of having this issue.
My daughter's laptop has sudenly refused to start WINXP. Got the "we apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this" white text on black screen message. It gives the option to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt or "last Known Good Configuration" ..together with "start windows normally" which is the default automatic restart. It says "if a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose start indows normally".
My wife has a 5 year old Toshiba laptop with an XP OS. Over the years , she has updated and downloaded the various service packs from Microsoft. Last night , while watching You Tube, my daughter noticed an error message on the screen (she's 11 years old, and she can't remember exactly what the message said). She turned the computer off properly . Now, when I try to start the computer, it goes to the "sorry for any inconvenience" page.Whichever method I choose to boot- safe mode , networking etc- it goes to the Toshiba logo screen and then goes right back to the "sorry for any convenience screen".
Ok, first of all I'm using XP, not sure about service packs or other things as my System Tools>System Information doesn't work so I cant find out anything else about my computer. I've looked around for this problem on the forum a bit but haven't found anything, so sorry if this has already been talked about.I think this started about 6 months ago, can't really remember that much as I don't use 'run' that much. Now whenever I go to Start>Run my whole computer freezes and stops responding until an error message comes up saying- 'Windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.' then the whole send error report thing.
In a not updated Version of Windows XP you can run (Start-run) "start"command at the Run dialog just typing it, when you update windows andwrite the same "start" into Run dialog Windows shows a error message >Windows cannot find `start`. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for the file, click the Start button, andthen click Search. If you are in CMD the `start` command works fine but the problem is thein Run dialog windows doesn’t recognize it ?
I am getting the following Rundll notification on WinXP SP2.
Error loading C:windows patchw32.dll The specified module could not be found
I have checked on the C:windows|npatchw32.dll file and it appears to be spyware that has been removed but I need help in removing the run dll notification
I have been trying to fix this computer for quite a while. I am having some probs. When I boot it up now, it comes up with an error Quote: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or currupt. WindowsSystem32Configsystem I do not want to reinstall Windows but IF I must I will. If there is a way to access the data I need some pictures off there.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent harware or software change might have caused this.I get this every time I start my computer. I start it in normal mode and everything seems to be working fine but when I restart or turn off and turn back on I get this black screen with the error.
"There is no disk in drive. Insert a disk into the drive."This annoying thing pops up and has to be closed at least a dozen times before it will stop. This occurs in all user profiles.

I was using my computer, and it froze completely. Only thing I could do is Alt + Tab, but it wouldnt bring up anything. So I restarted it, using the button on the computer itself. After that the "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this." message came up. I have the options (Start in safe mode / Safe mode with networking / Safe mode with command prompt / Last known good configuration setting (most recent setting that worked) / Start Windows normally.) and everything, there is a countdown for starting windows normally, but for some reason my arrow keys dont work. I tried both num pads and the normal arrow keys and nothing works, including enter.
I recieved the following message after a forced restart after windows updates were installed: "We are sorry for any inconvenience but Windows was unable to start successfully" My options are to start in Safe Mode , Last known config or normal. Safe Mode is the only thing that works. Also System Restore would not work Also System Recovery from Sony Vaio Recovery Wizard would not work
It never would start windows normal but would in safe mode,so now i did a diskcheck and restarted now it gets hung up on the system32driversagp440.sys...at least thats the last one that pops up before it freezes.
We are trying to start a laptop but windows is not starting up properly. As the boot begins, it takes you to a screen that says, :"if a previous start up attempt was inturrupted due to a power failure, then choose Start Windows Normally". We follow the directions, takes us the Window XP screen trying to boot it up and then takes us to the Gateway screen and then back to the screen where it asks the same question again. The cycles continues without any other options.
I decided to uninstall COLDFUSION from my system I confirmed yes to all those popups that say "this file is no longer needed want to delete"? during the uninstall process. Turns out I wiped out some important .dlls that windows needs to start up correctly. I am hung up on a DOS screen that reads: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windows rootsystem32hal.dll Please re-install a copy of the above file. Where do I find the above dll and if its on the xp CD...where on the XP CD would it be?
I altered the boot up in boot.ini so that I could choose safe mode at start up,When I changed it back a screen came up that I`d never seen before asking me to choose, WINDOWS or WINDOWS DEFAULT and I cant get rid of it.BY the way I am running XP Pro.
When trying to install Windows XP Pro I get the following error message "Setupdd.sys cannot be loaded error 14. Setup can not continue. Press any key to exit."
After around 10-15 min after logging in a program error box opens up saying winlogon.exe fatal error then it switches to a blue screen saying fatal error c0000021a error. I have windows 2000 proffessional and a HP compaq nc6120 laptop.
When I turn on comp. get the mssg: Windows couldn't start following file missing <Windows root>/system32/hal.dll Reinstall copy of file Recovery does not work. Tried to boot from a cd (changed BIOS to cd as 1st boot device) with win xp setup boot disk downloaded from MS site. Get same error mssg.
I keep getting this error message when I boot. The entire message says, "windows explorer has encountered an error and needs to close." When I close the box, i lose my desktop, and can't run a bunch of programs, including the "run" option. I am able to run my browsers and get on the web. I did do a system restore, and it worked at first, but then on the next reboot, i got the error message again. Did another system restore, same thing.
When A windows XP SP2 start up , a error box prompt up show winlogon.exe error, I have capture the debug log , can you let me know how to solve out this problems. Also I have enclosed Hjask this log for your ref, I hope you advice how to solve out this problems.

While playing a game, my computer froze then turned off. When I tried to turn it back on, it seemed to come up normally with the hp invent screen, then the F2 screen except, when I hit F2, I was taken to a screen that started off with "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows was unable to start up normally..." The options listed are to start up in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration, or start up windows normally. No matter which one I select, I am taken back to the original hp invent screen, then the F2 screen, etc...it's a never ending cycle and I am getting nowhere.
I have a big virus problem. I have basically every type of virus there on my computer. The most recent problem that I have is that I have use safe mode, i can't start windows up normally (windows xp home edition). I get a blue screen saying that windows has been shut down to prevent dammage from happing to your pc.
My Uncle just got a Dell computer and installed a dsl modem, and after a couple of days the computer was running super slow, and a popup appeared a few minutes after startup with a 60 second timer saying that windows was going to shut down. I thought that it was Spyware/adware so I installed and ran Adaware, and I deleted over 380 infected files, and ran AVG 7 virus scan and detected trojan viruses. I saw that his internet security settings were set at the minimum level and the firewall was disabled, so I enabled the firewall and raised the bars on the security levels, but there's still a major problem.
I was working on my computer last night and everything was fine. This morning I turned it on and got a message saying windows couldn't start because the file windowssystem32configsystem was missing or corrupt. The only option that I seem to have is to reformat and reinstall all the software which will wipe out all of my files. It have weeks of work on that computer. I sometimes back up online but it's been a long time since I've done that. Is there someway that I can fix it without a total reinstall?
