I have a blue padlock appear in the centre of my display that locks and unlocks. It can't be moved or close and my mouse cursor passes behind it. I can lock and unlock the PC as usual but it has no effect on the symbol.

Sorry for the inconvenience. in the middle of my screen It appears on boot and remains there .If I click close ,the desktop icons disappear and reappear and the message also reappears several seconds later,In those few seconds things seem to operate normally but after it appears, things on the screen just blink once when I click on them and nothing else happens. If I click something , and then click close on the message, it clears the desktop and reappears the previous click is then executed and the lockup is back .I can do things one at a time by repeating this closing process and the application on the screen does not close but reappears also

Thats kinda messed up to me as 0.94 worked like a charm. I have played with it a little and I know it isn't my system.I keep getting error code c000021a.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with an .avi file, I think it may have a virus.It was downloaded from an unknow site. While kept in a folder (A) within 'My Documents' folder it greatly slowed any operations whenever I opened folder A to view its contents This .avi file will not delete and can't be moved, comes up with a message -
"Cannot delete '.avi file': It is being used by another person or program.
Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." This message
comes up even when no programs are opened, its a stand alone home pc so no
other users.
My daughter's eMachines PC has XP. She was moving some photos from one folder to another. Now they won't preview or open. The thumbnail images do not show up either.In Properties they do not say "Read Only" or "Hidden" and it will not let me alter anything. It will say "Error Applying Attributes"-"Access is denied".I asked her what happened and she said she was prompted if she wanted to move these "Read Only" files and she clicked "Yes" because she said it has asked her before on some.It lists the titles and the size of the files. The other photos in the folder show their previews and thumbnails, but these just show the generic JEPG icon.

Seemed OK, but I was thrown by the fact I still have a "My Documents" folder listed under "Documents and Settings/myusername" In his folder, I also have folders for Cookies, Desktop, Favourites and Start Menu.
Q1. Should I delete this duplicate My Documents folder and or is it correct to leave it there as a copy (according to propertiesit is located on the C drive)
Q2. Should I move the other folders too?

I need to go back to the original HDD and get back those folders and files but I need the folders intact so I know what file belongs to what programs, any suggestions.Help please.I lost a years work of Music Files, from Fruity Loops and also plug-ins that took time to create.I have not touched the HDD since I cut / Moved Files and Folders.

Her computer was given to her by a friend, but he kept all the OS discs and has subsequently moved away.We do have her serial number.She's running XP Home. I have an XP Pro CD,but I have a feeling that it's not going to help.Does anyone know of a way to get a replacement installation CD? Or if it's possible to repair Home from a Pro CD?

I believe I accidentally clicked something to change that. Now the bar is running vertically along the right side of the screen.I've tried to drag it and move it back, but can't figure it out. When I was finished I then put the original second harddrive back and now it is not recognized anywhere. Why? I may have moved the jumpers but I am pretty sure I did not. They contain 3 very large 3-4gb files that were working right before I tried to organize them and move them to a different directory (cut and paste). I've tried disabling the simple file sharing and gaining access to them again, but it won't work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe weirdest things are happening on my pc My Local disk C and D has moved right to the bottom of the list in My Computer. Nothing is wrong with them, I can access them , but they just decided one day to move to the bottom of the list. Where can I move them back to where they belong, naughty drives. And don't know if this might be related to the same little problem, but my internet connection disappears every now and then.
I can't find it anywhere, have to reboot to get it back. By this i mean the actual icon to connect to the internet.
It's not even in my network places. I run DSL, but have set it up so I connect as if it was dial up ( so I can connect and disconnect as i please) It's been happening more and more often, sometimes I have to reboot two times in a row to get it to come back, most annoying.
I have a PC that had numerous defunct users, some from old defunct workgroups. I thought I'd consolidate. I moved a bunch of files and folders to a current users folder and deleted the defunct files and folders. I did this in Explore, loged in as Administrator, because these defunct users were from a previous defunct workgroups and did not show up in User Accounts/ControlPanel. As administrator I can read and wrtie to these files, but the user can't. I have marked these folders as shared and given permission to do everything to them, but the user that need them still can't write to them. As Administrator, I have assigned him to the powerUsers Group in the Users account/ControlPanel.

My problem is that I have by mistake moved a folder containing thousands of private photos and irreplaceable files into that folder which I can't access anymore. When trying to move my pictures folder back it says that I don't have permission to do that.I have latest Windows xp updates. I think a proper solution would be to change the permission of that folder so I can access it and I don't know how to do that. I am an admin so I should be able to access it?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI access my office computer remotely from home using VPN and MS Remote Desktop.My remote computer is a Dell D-800 laptop wuing Win XP SP2.My workstation is also Win XP SP2 using dual Matrox P650 graphics cards and multiple monitors (3 to be exact - 2 and 1).After a remote session, when I return to work and turn on my workstation monitors, my icons on my desktop have moved from their original positions (not all but about 1/3 - 1/2 of them).I also use a program called Multi-Monitor.Is there a means to freeze the icons in the position I set them?

Today when I tried to open various files from the 19 I discovered that two of them would not open. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Lap top with Windows 2000 Pro on it. When booting up, the computer will go through all its normal start-up procedures. When it comes time for the Username/Password, I put them in, I hear the wave sound for windows loading, and then it freezes! The hour glass cursor remains on the screen and moves, only NOTHING happens from there on.
However,I can get it to boot normally after this by shutting it down.... then going into the Bios Set-up screen.....Change NOTHING & simply exit out of the Bios Set-up......THEN it will start normally and bring up the Desktop! BUT....if I shut it down again, It will freeze right after the Log-in just like before. Im tired of always having to go into the Bios to get this darn thing to work
I'm having problems with computer freezing when I multi task. Hitting the ctrl alt delete will bring it back. I have a compaq 64 bit with 512 mb. This only seems to happen when I'm using internet explorer.Could it be a bad ethernet causing lockups?
