How to keep my desktop picture of Stonehenge from leaving, & being replace by just a blank black screen. What is wron with my computer? Want it to stay as Stonehenge, but it continues to just go into black screen.
View 3 RepliesWhen I have either firefox browser or IE6 up and when I minimize my browser or exit out of it, my whole screen goes blank. Every thing from my desktop items and my taskbar disappears for a second or 2. The only thing on my desktop that doesn't go blank is my desktop picture.

When the computer reboots, the picture will be on the desktop momentarily, but then it will turn white.The only thing unusual that happened today was some viruses being stopped by my McAfee. View 9 Replies View Relatedi've had problems with my computer background for months -.- and it's really getting on my nerves. i'd like to find a solution to my problem.. when i right click my desktop, click properties, click desktop.. and browse and find the photo i want to set, it looks fine in the preview but when i apply it, half of it is off the screen in the corner. i tried changing it to stretch, center, tile, i re sized the image to my exact desktop size, i also tried different resolutions and still no change! please if someone can help.. i've googled this Many Many times but none of the solutions worked for me, i've also tried multiple images... View 13 Replies View RelatedUsing PC and surfing the net, I left my PC for 2 mins and when returned the screen was blank, I have tried turning off and on, but each time the PC starts up, my icons flash on the desktop for a split second then it goes blank again, even if I just turn the monitor off, once turned back on the icons flash up for a split second then it goes blank again. My biggest worry of all is all the kids photo's and video clips I have saved on the PC and about 2 years ago my PC crashed due to a problem with the hard drive and we lost all our memories.

My system boots up to the user profile screen where I can choose between the two profiles If I select either profile a blank desktop appears (no icons/no windows task bar) and freezes Trying to boot into Safe Mode also hangs after choosing a profile. When I move my mouse over it, it displays tooltip of ile(Description,File Version,Date created,size and company).Now when I replace this existing file with a new file with the same file name, but with different file version or description and move the mouse over it again, though the file is displayed, it doesn't display the correct file version even after multiple refresh is done.

After a power outage i had an active desktop error page come up, i clicked the restore button but now 1/4 of my screen is wallpaper and the rest is a bit white block, I have tried to fix this problem a number of ways but it just wont change. View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some unknown reason, I can't change my desktop picture. When I go into the Display Settings, everything in the Desktop tab is grayed out. I can still use the customize desktop button and the position drop-box, but I can't acutally select an image.
I've tried going through the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem , but none of this helped. I had at one stage lost all the tabs, but I managed to retrieve them through the registry. It's not urgent that I get the desktop tab working, it's just really annoying.
I recently bought a new computer with a 512 MB graphic card. My old computer had a 128 MB card but at the beginning, I only had 8 MB. I was using a screen saver with fish in an aquarium. With only my 8 MB card, the animation was really impressive. I tried my screen saver yesterday with my new 512 MB card and the picture was terrible. There were plenty of horizontal lines on the screen. What could explain this? Could it be that the program wasn't intented for this type of card? In those days, big cards like mine didn't exist. There might be a new update to this screen saver.

When I boot up the system I see the winXP splash screen, then I get an absolutely blank desktop. No icons or taskbar. Mouse pointer is there and responds to movement. Ctrl-alt-del does nothing. When I try to boot into Safe Mode I get the same deal, except I can see the safemode in each corner and the header that tells me which version I'm running. I've tried repair installations and yet still have the same problem. I had a spare hard drive lying around so I put it into the system and then did a fresh install of XP into that with no problems. That drive works fine. I've replaced explorer.exe amongst other system files that I read about in the other posts to no avail. I can read the drive that has the bum version of XP via the fresh install but am blocked from accessing any of the files.

The basics: XP Professional Boot up screen, right before the windows loading screen, or direct after the F8 Menu if you hit "Start Windows Normally..." it will just lock up, no HDD activity, blank screen. now BSOD, nothing.
All 3 safe mods work fine.
Ran chkdsk /r in recovery.
Ran proper fixboot procedure.
Went into safe mode and checked the event viewer.
The only concerning message i got was: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AmdK8
Fips
nod32drv
Formatting really isnt an issue since i can back up anything i need through safe mode. However its just the fact that the Windows gremlin has struck me again and i must defeat it once more.
I highly doubt this is a hardware issue as it is more of a driver/software issue.any help?
When i turn on,first Windows screen appears,then a blue screen blinks,then hp screen,then a blank page with cursor on the top left,then a screen with the message"we apologise for the inconvinience but Windows did not start successfully.there was a hardware or software problem.I tried to run it in Safe mode, Windows normally,last known configuration but no luck......Then someone suggested to Get into the Recovery Console by making a Recovery CD with ISO image but the machine is not responding to any of it.Is it with CD/DVD ROM drive or any major hardware problem???...I ran a self hard drive test and it seemed fine

boot to Last Known Good Configuration - resulting in the same blue screen
boot to Safe Mode / Safe Mode with networking / Safe Mode with comman prompt - resulting in blank (black) screen with "Safe Mode" in the corners and moveable mouse test the hardware (hard drive / memory etc.) via build in PC Doctor - all seems to be working
i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console
i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive
I have about an 2" black space around an open page on my screen......how do I get it to return to original full screen size?

I live 4 states away from my little brother, and his computer is in dire straights. When we boot it up, he gets a blank desktop, no icons, no taskbar, no start menu. If we attempt to access programs via task manager (ctrl alt del) then we get the "Task manager has been disabled by the administrator. I need to know where to start so we can begin taking care of this mess. We can get into safe mode, and task manager will let us in, but I'm lost after that step. I've had him run a couple of cracks that are supposed to fix the registry, but they dont help when we reboot into normal windows. Someone lend me a hand and let me know what we need to do.

I am not able to access anything on my computer except for when i'm in Safe mode. So I tried system restore and rolled back it back to previous checkpoints. It worked for a while, and that was it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI turned on my comp to find a blank desktop. The wallpaper appears but there is no taskbar and no desktop icons. This is the same for each user on the system. I was able to start the task manager and run a command prompt from there which allowed me to run some programs but not windows explorer. My system restore also seems to have been turned off and all restore points removed.
I managed to run a virus check with AVG free edition which detected an executable file 'charlie.exe' in the my pictures folder for two of the users saying they were trojans 'trojan horse backdoor.generic8.fjs'. AVG deleted these but, as I suspected, did not cure the problem. I have also run adaware but this never detected anything other than a handful of tracking cookies. I have downloaded Hijack this V2.0.0, but will wait for advice before posting a log.
