I have windows 2000. I turned it on and when I got to the desktop it was all weird. It has like three or four fuzzy split screens. I can get into safe mode and even ran the AVG to check for viruses. I didn't find any. I tried to get the computer to last known good configuration, but that didn't work
My computer starts but the only thing that appears is my desktop background. No start menu or anything. The last thing I did was install and run Avast anti-virus scan and AdAware. It works in start mode and I tried to restore to an earlier point a few times and to different checkpoints but they failed and "no changes were made."
Very similar to the following problem but i do not have a raid, and it seems that this PC has a raid and i don't, plus it was never really determined what the actual solution was.
The basics: XP Professional Boot up screen, right before the windows loading screen, or direct after the F8 Menu if you hit "Start Windows Normally..." it will just lock up, no HDD activity, blank screen. now BSOD, nothing.
All 3 safe mods work fine.
Ran chkdsk /r in recovery. Ran proper fixboot procedure.
Went into safe mode and checked the event viewer.
The only concerning message i got was: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: AmdK8 Fips nod32drv
Formatting really isnt an issue since i can back up anything i need through safe mode. However its just the fact that the Windows gremlin has struck me again and i must defeat it once more.
I highly doubt this is a hardware issue as it is more of a driver/software issue.any help?
I've got a problem booting Windows XP in safe mode though it works wll in normal mode. I press on f8 at the begining, I do get the menu where I chose the option "safe mode" and then it seems to boot up but after a few seconds all I get is a black screnn and a blinking cursor on the top left (this lasts for more then 15 mins when I get fed up and try again) What can I do?
I've installed Windows XP SP2 Fresh after I had some other hardware problems. Everything seemed to work fine until I managed to get into Windows. The OS refuses to read ANY dvd/cd that I put inside. If instead, I boot to Safe-Mode, the DVD-RW works fine. Of course I tried to switch the DVD-RW with another one but the results were the same.
im on a Dell laptop with windows XP with sp2..My internet was going fine and then all of the sudden it stopped working. If i restart it works for one or two IE pages but is really slow. AIM works but is also really slow. But I can use both fine on Safe mode with networking. Any thoughts? I'm assuming its some sort of process messing it up.
I have a xp professional 2000+. Okay this is my main problem, yes i have tried system restore billions of times okay, i turn on my computer it goes through all normal steps, it gets to the windows loading screen after that it is a black screen? my computer works in safe mode though.
I recently got a few notifications of viruses on my computer. Along with it came a lot of adware pop-ups. I downloaded Kaspersky AV 7.0 from their site and am using it as a trial version. I had an older version of McAfee, but hadn't renewed and do not have up-to-date virus definitions. As the title reads, my computer will only work when I boot windows in safe mode with networking. When I try to boot it up regularly, it goes very slow at the log-in screen and then once I log in, there's only a black screen with the mouse pointer. I left it at that window for a few hours hoping it would eventually load. Not the case. Same thing happens when I boot in safe mode with the exception that ctrl+alt+del works and will bring up the Windows Task Manager and then I can run/terminate programs from there. But no start toolbar or icons or anything else. I have done several full scans and they come up with viruses every time.
I'm on XP.Internet explorer only works in safe mode.In regular mode, it keeps saying waiting for http:, then it will take 45secs to 1 min before it connects. After 5 mins, I lose connection anything online. In safe mode, I stay connected forever, and internet explorer works.
My computer has worked very well for years, but a short while ago it has developed this problem. It will freeze at anytime using any software (or none at all) while in normal mode. I ran all the usual checks and balances; virus, spyware, updates, etc. Also, I have researched the issue in this forum and followed the great advise. I have also run tests on the drives, memory, etc. but they all pass. Next, I cloned a new drive, thinking that the old one may be failing (needed a larger HD anyway), but the same problem persisted.
I have a Dell Optiplex GX280 running Windows XP that doesn`t do anything after start page is loaded except turn off or restart. I can ONLY (won`t allow me to do it in normal mode) do a system restore in safe mode & then it works perfect. When I turnoff or restart it goes back to the same problem - freezes up after start page has loaded. I have to do system restore in safe mode only all over again.
I have tried everything to find out what is blocking my internet connection from working in regular mode for more than 30 seconds. My internet connection works just fine when i boot in Safe mode with networking and thats it. Can you please help me find what is blocking my internet connection on my computer!
My computer worked fine yesterday but started to keep restarting every time my computer was done loading the desktop. I went on Event Viewer and found errors like this:The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load
Windows XP Home : My desktop boots only in safe mode and system restore fails. Last known good configuration doesn't work too. Normal boot falls in a restart loop. Can somebody help, please ? Problem created by malware (trojans, worms, etc).I use Avast antivirus.
I have a hp windows xp model number a705w and a problem arose with my internet. Whenever i open up any web browser (IE, Firefox, Safari) it won't let me!!! When i run the diagnostics for IE it says there is a problem with my HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP ports (error 12029). I do not have any firewalls besides the normal windows one and sometimes I have gone as far as to turn that off too but that doesn't work either. The wierd thing is that all the web browsers work in safe mode with networking but not in the normal mode so my ISP says there is aproblem my computer.. any ideas what it is or how to fix it?
When I'm trying to start up Windows XP Home Edition I receive an error box without an error message, I can just click YES or NO. Neither option let's me continue. When starting up in Safe Mode, everything works fine.
Sometimes, when I log in, the desk top for my log in seems to be set to what looks much like a safe mode. Still does it after running Super anti spyweare.
Really feeling desperate here. Win xp home. The only way I can get to my desktop without waiting 25 minutes AND having start button and others freeze up and then taking 5 min for each click, I have to first go to Safe Mode and change sometihng in mcsonfig and then restart.
Then I use Normal Mode and get to my desktop with no problem and nothing freezes BUT I then have to reset all my SERVICES in "Sevices ans applications" since they become disabled each time I use Safe Mode. Note: I made sure to diable all unnecessary servies and use only the startups I need in msconfig.
All very time consuming and debilitating. Then I can get online and everything is fine.BUT then each time I shut down or restart my computer its the same cycle all over again. Note: The problem seemed to occur when one day semingly out of nowhere I turned on my compuyer and my logon was apparently corrupted. NO spyware, viruses. Clean machine. When I got to my desktop there was a white screen as oppsoed to blue with an alert to restore my desktop. But when I clicked the restore button notihng happened. Someone told me I may have a corrupt logon name and to set up another which I did and everything wokred fine except for, as I said, when I shut down or restart my computer. I tried system restore but apparently there are no options/dates to restore back to. Ive spent 200 hours on this and am ready to throw in the towel. I dont want ot have to resort to a clean reinstall of Winxp but if I have ot can you please inform me about how to keep my files intact (pdfs, word docs and pictures). and if I need to back them up,
I was running a Compaq desktop on Windows XP Home Edition, halfway through an excel spreadsheet when my PC shut down. I have not been able to bootup again and keep getting a message to install WindowsRoot>System32hal.dell, I don't have a system recovery disk and now that I cannot boot up, I cannot use the recovery function on my PC either.
when i boot up, i can sometimes get to the desktop, then i hear a click from my tower and everything is frozen. all fans are still running. and power is still on.i've tried a clean install of windows to no avail. this happens everytime , but the freeze can happen before i get to the desktop and also in safe mode. seems to be a hardware issue. i may be able to get a friends graphics card to see if that is the problem
I was having problems with my XP 2005 Media Edition desktop freezing while watching TV so I uninstalled the ATI Radeon Connect3D 9600 256mb video card. It restarted no problem. I lowered the resolution to 800x600, no problem. I turned on the media center and let it sit for a bit. It froze. Now on start up I get the following: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM
I'm trying to fix a virus problem (trojan.vundo) and need to boot in safe mode. When I try to boot in safe mode I get the user icons, but when I log in using any of the user icons including administrator the system freezes and I don't get a desktop.
My computer has an explorer error message- has to close. Windows loops back and the same message appears. I have the details but not sure what to include:
Details as follows: AppName: explorer.exe, AppVer: 6.6.2800.1221, ModeName: mshtml.dll, ModVer: 6.0.2800.1528, offset: 000f40b5 My desktop comes up in a safe mode. I am afraid to restart the computer - might crash.
i am working on this computer for a customer it has windows xp when you start it up you get the xp splash screen and that's it no user accounts just comes up to a black screen will not start to safe mode no last known good no safe mode with command prompt no safe mode with networking just keep getting black screen.
My computer starts up and then continues in an ifinite restarting cycleWell, when I try to turn my computer on, it starts to load but then goes to a black screen saying some thing like:Your computer encountered a problem...it may have been bacuse of...or power failures...hard driveIt also says to click Safe Mode, Start Windows Normally or Same Configuration with a little timer at the bottomif I press enter for Start Normally or Same Config, it goes to a loading page and then shuts down and restarts going baack to the black screen. Restarting and Restarting and restarting
I've got some particularly nasty stuff on my system (running XP Home Edition), so I want to do a scan in Safe Mode. However, whenever I select safe mode, my screen tells me that the signal is out of range, and underneath that it says "35.5KHz / 87Hz". I have a Sony screen, in case that helps any. I looked around for solutions, but all I found were some fixes for when this happens on normal Windows, which involves going into Safe Mode. So no dice. I also tried VGA, but the picture is so horrible I have no idea what is on the screen.
Running XP Pro and never had a problem. Since last night it has refused to boot. After doing the XP loading screen for normal time, it loads a black screen with the mouse, and nothing else. I've waited over fifteen minutes and it does nothing. After a few clicks, the error speaker beeps and the mouse freezes. Tried loading in safe mode, and it gives a black screen with all the safe mode text around the screen. Anyone had any experience with this?
