I noticed that the greatest time consumption when doing a registry scan on my laptop takes place in the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternetSettin gsone MapDomains. Many of the domain names that appear in this path are places visited online which I can recognize. Broadband connection doesn't require the kind of caching needed prior to this technology.I feed my curiosity about the most mundane topics and spend hours a day on the net.I rarely return to the same site unless I find it useful then I bookmark the site. Can I delete this seeming history of domains visited from the registry without fear of creating a catastrophic situation when searching the net?
Can I delete subkeys and values pertaining to Domains and addresses from the registry in all trees under SoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrent VersionInternet Settings without affecting the normal functioning of my PC? I have some registry folders that I NEED to permanantly delete Unfortunatly, every time I delete the folder and restart the computer, windows XP Pro puts it back. Is there a way to permanantly delete the backups (either the backups that windows makes or the folder in the registry itself) so that windows doesnt restore the deleted folder?

I want to backup my Autocomplete User Names and Passwords, Web Addresses, and Forms entries in the registry. What are the registry addresses for these items?
I tried to delete the registry entries which were bad, I had 30 of them, but the these two will just not go away, even by doing them manually, such as saving as a backup then deleting it manually and remerging. They just show up no matter what I do, or so use programs like Registry Mechanic, which I found only mediocre, very far from the ratings. to delete these two entries somehow from someone who is actully knows how to without using several so called registry cleaners, which only work partially.
I have entries in my Windows XP Professional Registry that are no longer needed. When I try to delete these entries the registry editor will not allow me to delete the entries. Is there a way that I can delete/remove these registry entries?

On my box at home, I have Norton System Works, which contains a registry diagnostic/sweeper.At work, where I run Windows 2000 Pro, I was wondering...I know there are various registry diagnostic & cleaner utilities out there on the web, but I thought I had heard that Windows itself either includes one on the OS disc or makes one available for download. Is there such a thing as an official Windows Registry utility?
When I run defrag on my C drive, the program tells me that there are certain files that cannot be defragmented. When I go to delete these files, I am not able to find them on my hard drive. It tells me that the files are in C:\WINDOWSTemp but when I look in that folder no such files exist. When I check the properties of the folder, it tells me there are 4 GB in it but it only shows 4 MB worth of files. How can I delete these files when I can't find them

while I was working on my computer, my operating system crashed but well, I have backed my system up, and I knew I can restore it in 5 minutes. but the problem was that I had some important files on drive C: (my system drive) which I will have to delete then restore I know I can repair my system but I knew it won't be satisfying for me
I have been trying to delete an old Windows file on one of my hard disks, but i never could because of the "access denied" error message. No matter what i did, they couldn't be deleted. So finally, i stumpled across a site that explained that the files need to have the right "ownership" to delete. So, i follow the instructions and set me as the owner, but it will only do that to one folder. I then have to go one by one and set the properties for each sub-folder seperatley, and there's hundreds of them. Is there any way to delete all of the files without regard to what user owns them? Or how can i make ALL files AND subfolders be set at once
I'd like to know how to delete windows xp using commands... or any other effective way to remove it to free up space in my hard drive. I have another OS in a different partition.
Hey there, i'm currently running on Windows XP with a 120 gig Maxtor Harddrive. During my last reformat I'm guessing I did it wrong and mistakenly made a second partition while leaving the old one intact. I've checked through all my biggest storage heaps for what could be causing my HD to be so full. But my multimedia section is only 28 gigs, whereas the harddrive is showing 85 gigs worth of used space. Multiple partitions is the only thing I can think of. So is there a way I could find out if I have an extra partition, which one is the right one to delete, and the process of deleting it, possibly without having to transfer all my files. Any help would be appreciated.

And do I need to download something else after I delete those, like Partition 1.

Following the installation of a new motherboard a new copy of Windows XP Pro was installed on my computer. I am the only user of this computer. Two user accounts were created: "Administrator" and "Peter". All my programs were reinstalled on "Peter". The computer would only reboot into "Administrator". I called back the engineer and he managed to disable "Administrator". Now when I reboot I get a dialog box telling me that "Administrator" has been disabled and asking me if I want to continue. After clicking "OK" I then get the user accounts screen, I click on "Peter" and the computer boots into "Peter". How can I get the computer to start immediately in "Peter" without all this extra malarky?
This is my first post, and it's a small issue, but help would be appreciated. I run XP Pro with SP2 on a Compaq Presario laptop. Each time I open "my recent documents" from the Start menu and delete an item, the whole list closes and I have to open again, and go through that each time for multiple deletes. How can I keep the list open and do multiple deletes at one time?
I am encountering a few errors with my PC that seem to be unsolvable. Nobody here has been able to help me with them so I have decided that I want to reinstall Windows. However, I am wondering if there is a way to do this without deleting all my programs? In other words, can I do it without formatting my PC?
