After Deleting Icon Had Paper In The Recycle Bin There Were Files

Dec 27, 2007

I finally need to update to Vista. My PC still works well, it's just been having some problems lately. Anyway, The reason for this thread is because something bizarre happened. I had just sent 2 or 3 files to the Recycle Bin. Then I right-clicked it and hit "Empty Recycle Bin". It deleted the files; that's all well and fine. Then I noticed, that after I deleted them, the icon had paper in the bin like there were files in it. So I opened it and saw nothing. I closed that and saw the icon still said there were files in it. So I right-clicked, hit "Empty Recycle Bin", then saw the same old "Are you sure you want to delete (insert file)?" message. Instinctively, I hit "Yes" and started reading what file it was while clicking it. BAM. The file was I thought for sure my PC was screwed for good. But I checked in "HP_PAVILION C" and it was still there, I looked again at the "Recycle Bin" and everything was fine.

Deleting Files / Folders Just Delete / Don't Go To Recycle Bin For Recover

Apr 7, 2008

Have an issue that I couldn't find a solution in Google or on these forums, so I am going to post. When deleting a file/folder from an WinXP desktop, typically it would go to the Recycle Bin, incase I need it for later. In this case, it isn't.its just deleting. Not ending up in the Recycle Bin, and no chance to recover.
Is there anyway to change so that they end up in the Recycle Bin first, before being deleted?

Deleting Files From USB Flash Disk : Saving To Recycle Bin?

Nov 5, 2007

I am using XP and would like to regularly transfer files as a backup to a usb stick. As the capacity of the USB stick is limited, I will have to delete older backups when I run my scheduled transfer of new files. I usually have these files encrypted as they are confidential. My question is where do they go if I delete them on the USB stick? Are they ending up on my harddrive or in the recycle bin of the harddrive from where they can still be retrieved later on? Do USB sticks have their own recycle bin or some area where deleted files slumber?

Deleting Takes A Long Time Recycle Bin Doesn't Open

Dec 5, 2008

My computer takes a long time when I try to delete a file (doesn't matter what size or kind of file). Once I click on the file and hit delete the hard drive starts going and after a while I get a confirmation message "Are you sure you want to send file.ext to the recycle bin?" I click yes and then it's hung up again for a while as I watch pieces of paper float accross the screen from a file folder to a recycle bin, and then it finally deletes. This is a new problem on my old machine.I also can't open the recylcing bin, but I can empty it. When I click on the recycle bin it opens a window and shows the "flashlight" icon, the hard drive goes, and it never finished it's process, never displays the recycling bin contents.

Restoring Default SP2 Registry Keys - Download And Reinstall SP2

Sep 1, 2005

I was not able to install a new version of an engineering software package because something was left behind in the registry from the older version that I had removed. So I stupidly deleted a couple of registry keys that looked related to the software without documenting them (not just the tags, but the folders with the long alphanumeric strings). Now when I try to install the software it gives me an error. I ran system restore but the problem is still there (I don't think it restored the registry keys I deleted). Is there a way to install all of the default Windows SP2 registry keys or to download and reinstall SP2 in general?

Edited Registry To Remove Recycle Bin From Desktop

Oct 23, 2008

Years ago, I edited the registry to remove the recycle bin from the desktop. I have its icon in the tool bar and I recently deleted it on accident. I cant recall exactly what I did to the registry.I have tried the microsoft suggestion to put the recycle bin back via regedit, but the file is still there. The problem, I believe, lies in the fact that when you go to desktop properties and select customize, recycle bin is not even an option along with My Computer, My Network Places, and one other that escapes me.

Deleting Domains In Registry

I noticed that the greatest time consumption when doing a registry scan on my laptop takes place in the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternetSettin gsone MapDomains. Many of the domain names that appear in this path are places visited online which I can recognize. Broadband connection doesn't require the kind of caching needed prior to this technology.I feed my curiosity about the most mundane topics and spend hours a day on the net.I rarely return to the same site unless I find it useful then I bookmark the site. Can I delete this seeming history of domains visited from the registry without fear of creating a catastrophic situation when searching the net?

They just show up no matter what I do, or so use programs like Registry Mechanic, which I found only mediocre, very far from the ratings. to delete these two entries somehow from someone who is actully knows how to without using several so called registry cleaners, which only work partially.

Restoring From The CD

Aug 28, 2005

Am I able to restore the Windows XP operating system on my laptop from the CD without trashing my other data/programs? I have used "System Restore" quite often and now notice several small glitches occurring from time to time so am wondering if small portions of the system have become corrupt (sorry for the nontechnical terminology). It would be nice to be able to restore the system directly from my CD but I haven't been able to discover if this is possible.

System Is Not Restoring

I've been trying to resolve multiple problems that suddenly appeared with my pc by myself for days. I need help, please!

Problems:
1. Flash has stopped operating.

I tried downloading simple Flash and got the error message "No Platform for this application". Shockwave Flash did install, but my flash animation is still not working.

My operating system is Windows XP Service Pack 2. Here is my Hijack This log:

Restoring Crashed Using BKF

Aug 24, 2008

It is ironic that I am here, because I own a tech business, but I have been stumped so long that I need to go ask the big-guns.My problem: My computer was acting up.My solution: Reinstall XP.My second problem: I have a SATA drive which XP doesn't support by default. My solution: Use nLite to package my drivers into my install disc and burn a new copy.My third problem: install goes as planned, but when the computer starts up it gets to the Windows Logo loading-screen and crashes right as the blue bar enters the screen. The computer simply freezes, shuts down, reboots, and says "Windows did not shut down properly" or whatever the hell it says.So now I have no clue what to do. I know it's not the wrong drivers--I got them directly from ASUS's website and made sure it's the 32-bit Windows XP drivers.

I have tried reinstalling Windows like 10 times over the past 3 days, so I know it wasn't just a faulty install. My CD drive is 6 months old and my hard drive 2 months old. They both run perfectly, so I know it's not them.Being the genius I am, I backed up my entire hard-drive on a BKF file with a clean install!
So now I can just use the BKF file to write to my hard drive... if I had a working computer. So here's my situation: I'd accept a helpful fix for the thing above, but I don't think there will be any fixes for it that I haven't already tried. But what I really do want is some advice on how to write my BKF file to my SATA HDD. I have my SATA connected to my computer via an external USB converter-switch-like-thing, so I have access to it. The BKF is stored on my laptop's HDD, but my Laptop is Vista (ewwie). I need to know how to take the BKF file from my Vista laptop and restore it onto my SATA HDD that is attached via USB. Vista's restore capability doesn't support XP's BKF files, so I was wondering if anybody knows of a third-party application or any way to get this back up, and quickly. I'm a developer and my computer has been down for 3 days!
