C0000218 Registry Failure: Deleting Xp Home & Copy Xp Pro?

Sep 19, 2008

Ive managed to get hold of a xp pro disk. Also i cant get it to read the disk when i boot up. Ive changed the boot up order in bios settings and still it does not read the cd it just takes me back to the same blue screen where it dumps the physical memory then starts over and over again. Do i need to delete the existing xp first?

C0000218 Registry File Failure: Little Blue Pop Up Screen With The Error

Mar 4, 2006

I did not add any new memory to my systeme. however, I did remove my current memory to access the inside of my laptop. The fan wire had come loose so I reconnected. I fixed that problem only to find out the problem with the registry. I have chose the load last known configuration that worked correctly but it still gives me the little blue pop up screen with the error, then the restart.

I tried to use my windows xp os disk to try and repair it but it wont read the disc before the blue screen comes back up. I'm thinking of buying a Laptop To IDE Hard Drive Adapter. So, I could at least format my hard drive. I'm not sure if this would be a good idea. I went to the microsoft webpage that deals with this issue but I can not seem to find one to fix my problem.

Blue Screen: Registry File Failure; Can't Copy Corrupted File To Tmp Directory

May 29, 2006

I'm in the process of repair/recovery of my machine (Dell Inspiron 8500 with Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2). I'm following exactly the instructions in:

http://attachments.techguy.org/attac...chmentid=62075, but a problem has developed. The "software" file (which is the file that the original blue screen error message says is "corrupt, absent or not writable") will not copy to the new tmp directory to create the backup. My understanding from the article is that this backup file (software.bak) will later be used to restore correct settings for various software applications. Since I can't copy it, it appears that I am screwed,

Deleting Domains In Registry

I noticed that the greatest time consumption when doing a registry scan on my laptop takes place in the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternetSettin gsone MapDomains. Many of the domain names that appear in this path are places visited online which I can recognize. Broadband connection doesn't require the kind of caching needed prior to this technology.I feed my curiosity about the most mundane topics and spend hours a day on the net.I rarely return to the same site unless I find it useful then I bookmark the site. Can I delete this seeming history of domains visited from the registry without fear of creating a catastrophic situation when searching the net?

I followed the link from other threads to the microsoft site explaining repairing the registry using the installation disk. I got the computer from my brother in law and do not know where the installation disks are. Also it was factory installed and the microsoft instructions say they do not work with OEM software. Is there a way to fix this without the disk? If I find the disk Dell supplied will it work since it it was not a XP install disk?

OEM Home Key: Warranty Covered Hardware Failure?

Sep 6, 2007

I decided to reinstall windows but (a tad stupidly), I didn't check first to see where my license key was... you see, it should be on the side of my case, but I swapped that over for an Antec P180. I copied it down onto a piece of paper, but unsurprisingly that piece of paper is nowhere to be found.I've used a code from another Dell machine in the house to get into XP, but obviously that's no use for getting it activated, and I keep being told my copy is not genuine (ie by Windows Update), which is rather irritating considering it clearly is. I was told to chase up Dell about the problem by the windows activation tool, but all of their support is locked down to two options... warranty covered hardware failure, or paid-for support.

Fresh Copy Of Home Always Freezes?

Oct 9, 2006

So I just rebuilt my PC, installed XP Home edition and installed the SP2 upgrade. I also installed some basic programs such as Norton Anti-Virus, Spybot, Ad-Aware, and Windows Defender. Since this is a fresh copy, you would think no problems right? Well, for some reason, this operating system just freezes everytime I'm trying to either install updates and other programs. It even freezes sometimes after its booted into the OS! There's no spyware or viruses, so I'm thinking it has to do with the SP2 install. I'm also dual booting with Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, which is running fine with no problems. I'm thinking about uninstalling SP2 if this solves the problem.

But when I went to Amazon it said the OEM was not for a consumer, only system builders. Can anyone explain what problems I might encounter if I installed a OEM version (as funds are very tight - OEM would help out a lot).Or does anyone know of a version of XP that you can buy without the box etc (just the CD), that is for a home user. One other question - will my motherboard except a new version of XP(does it know that I am changing the "Product Key" etc).
