Delayed Write Failures Message

Nov 16, 2009

How do I tell XP to write the data NOW? It is very tiresome when one goes to shut down, and watch all the drives power up to receive those last bytes of data that would be lost forever if the system crashed. Is there a setting that allows one to force XP to perform these writes at an appropriate time,e.g., BEFORE powering down a disc? Or preferably with no delayed writes whatsoever?

"Delayed Write Failed" Error Message - HDD Problem?

May 19, 2006

I keep getting the error message "Windows - Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file D:$Mft. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere." I'm not sure if the error is D:$Mft or C:$Mft I'll post once the error appears again. The message appears at random times, usually when the comp's idle. The computer acts totally normal after the error message occurs. I've recently jumped from 1 GB of RAM to 2 GB of RAM and I've also upgraded my boot drive from a 250GB IDE hard drive to a 250 Western Digital SATA Drive.

Delayed Write Failed Error - Drives Connected - PCI-E Controller Card

Apr 3, 2010

this has been bothering me for weeks and not a single thing I've tried has solved it. It's really a problem now, because I can't just not back my stuff up forever, I have to get this sorted out.I have a PC that I keep all my stuff on, run uTorrent on, my media center application, etc. It's got 8 HDDs. Half for storage, half for backup. 5TB overall (well less...but you know). I have an application that runs once a day to sync the drives with their counterparts. Everything was fine, until I got a new motherboard and CPU for the system.Now.....whenever I run my backups, this message will appear. Either very rapidly, or at some point during. The whole system will slow to a near halt (it can take 30 seconds for the mouse to register movement), and the only course of action is to turn the system off and on again. It's because of this Delayed Write Failed error (it pops up, sometimes immediately....and sometimes if you let the system keep running).

I've looked online for solutions. Some of them say to disable delayed write in the HDD properties. I've done that for most drives (the drives connected to the system via a PCI-E controller card have that tick box option greyed out. Nothing I've tried has made a blind bit of difference.

Hard Drive Failures

Jul 1, 2005

I sure hope somebody here can suggest something to the following problem because it is starting to drive me insane.I have a motherboard with 2 normal IDE connectors and 2 SCSI IDE connectors via a Promise Ultra 100 onboard controller.I have 4 hard drives, all with a single partition except for my system drive which is split into two primary partitions. In the last two days, I've had three of my drives experience sudden
problems. One lost it's MFT record effectively losing all the data on that drive. Two others all of a sudden are continuously needing CHKDSK run on them to get them to work. They keep having problems with the MFT as well, specifically with the volume BITMAP record as well as indexing problems. At the end of running CHKDSK on them it says that "The second NTFS boot sector is unwriteable.". This showed up first on only one of the two drives, but a few hours later it was on the other as well. Also, on one of them when I try to do a surface check with the /R switch, it gets to 37% then stops.

Atapi.sys And Usbport.sys Failures - BSOD

Dec 13, 2006

I have been getting repeated BSOD for the past few months and I have tried all I know to remedy it. It crashes for no apparant reason and is annoying the hell out of me.When it blue screens I have been getting repeated 0x000000d1 codes but with different driver locations. I have either getting usbport.sys or atapi.sys. Atapi.sys seems to be the more common of the two. I tried running System File Checker (sfc) and got 99% through before is BSOD again!I have examined the screeds of info on the Microsoft website and nothing looks overly relevant or matches the symptoms I have been experencing.

Resolving Host & General Connection Failures

Apr 6, 2010

This is a bit of a last resort. I'm running Windows XP SP3 on a fairly old computer from around 2006 (3.2ghz, upgraded to 4gb RAM etc.) I use a Belkin 802.11g wireless card, connecting to a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. A few months ago, I started having odd connection issues. Nothing new was installed/ uninstalled. Previously, the last thing uninstalled was a Steam version of M&Mark Messiah, but that was about a week previous. What would happen is that whilst browsing the internet (Chrome) the browser would not connect, saying 'Resolving Host'. When this was happening, no other browser would work (they'd just be 'loading'). Other programs would work (so, League of Legends would work except for the 'browser' bits such as news, Google Talk would work). I would have full signal, packets being sent, and I could always connect to the router config utility. I looked around, read a load of stuff about DNS problems, tried the fixes, with no luck. Eventually I stumbled across someone who recommended I turn off UPnP function of my router. I did so, and things miraculously worked. No problems at all.

Until last week. Despite the UPnP function being off, and despite not changing anything (to my knowledge) my internet has gone crazy again. It's worse than before. Posting this was an exercise in frustration - more 'resolving host' problems. Interestingly, the problem has spread to other programs - AdAware can't connect to the server and thus can't run, apparently; other scanners show no malware/spyware. Connecting to League of Legends is much slower - although once I am in the game, it runs entirely properly - as low a ping as ever. I've searched around and entirely failed to find a solution that works. On Chrome I disabled DNS-pre fetching, and that seemed to help, for about 2 minutes. Then back to normal.I have had ZoneAlarm installed in the past, and have Avast! running. I recently reinstalled ZA after the problems restarted to see if that would change anything, but nothing so far.

Delayed Startup

Oct 6, 2007

If I restart my computer (a Dell Dimension 9750) I get a flashing icon at top left of screen. None of usual keys or mouse works. In 5 minutes time it then comes to life and after a further minute or so I get normal desktop. This happens every time. I checked the MSCONFIG "Boot Ini" and it is OK. Has anyone come across this or known what is causing it ? I have tried System Restore and Registry check to no avail. I even tried the Dell restore which reverts to what you get when computer first received.

I've tried disabling the resident antivirus program, Avast but that doesn't seem to improve the situation. I am Any ideas about how to proceed from here?

Delayed Response To Taskbar Actions - Explorer.exe Related?

Oct 8, 2008

Am running XP SP2 and have had this problem for years - I think I even experienced it on my previous computer, but I'm not certain about that. Essentially, anything controlled by explorer.exe seems to experience frequent delays when I try to do simple actions. For example, clicking the Start button or the >> button to show more Quick Launch items will often take 5 to 10 seconds. Here's some detail: I click either of those buttons, and am shown the "pressed/darkened" version of them as normal. There is then a 5-10 second delay during which the button remains in the pressed/darkened state. During this time, anything related to explorer.exe does not respond - I can't click anything on the taskbar, go to the desktop, etc. I can, however still switch windows with Alt+Tab and work within the applications fine.

When the menu decides to finally show itself, it appears smoothly and as normal. Anything explorer.ext related I clicked on or tried to do during the delay is now executed (e.g. switching windows, going to the desktop). For a while (no idea on the duration, I don't use the taskbar much) following this, the taskbar will behave and respond to clicks rapidly. This problem always seems to occur after booting up - I try to launch my first application, and explorer hangs for a while... then eventually decides to respond again and let the application launch. Occurs regardless of if I wait for all harddrive activity to finish after boot. It almost feels as if explorer is being paged out into virtual memory, but that's just silly and shouldn't be necessary with 2gigs of RAM and not using anything particularly RAM hungry... There also doesn't seem to be any significant harddrive activity during the delays.

New Computer Won't Play / Write DVD's

Apr 3, 2010

I recently bought a refurbished Dell OptiPlex GX620 computer that came supplied with XP Pro S2 and S3 installed, a DVD/CD RW device and a floppy drive installed. I installed a Nero 6 program that I used with my old Win 98SE system and was able to copy files and folders from my old computer to be transferred to the new one. Yesterday (4/2/10) I tried to play a DVD and nothing happened. I chose to run E: and saw the various chapters available on the DVD but when I went into Media Player 11, it told me that it could not play the DVD. I tried another DVD but got the same notice. The notice window suggested that I move my video resolution down to 640Xxxx and lower my colors down to 16 bit from 32 bit. I also tried that but no joy. Can anyone suggest what might be happening here? I have a 3.6 Gig processor in this rig so I don't think it's a speed problem.

Switched DVD Drive's, Now DVD Burner Will Not Write

Nov 13, 2006

If the DVD burner is not the Master of the two DVD drives, your burning software will experience some problems. So, after installing Windows Vista as a "dual boot" operating system, I switched the DVD drives back so the Pioneer DVR-106D = MASTER and the Pioneer 116 = SLAVE. Now I have a write problem to the Pioneer DVR-106D drive. When I attempt to either copy a DVD or just burn a data disk, I get an "INTERNAL TARGET FAILURE" error message. Happens every time now.As my system is already set up as a "Dual Boot" operating system with Windows XP & Vista, I cannot format my "C" drive and reinstall Windows XP to fix this problem.QUESTION: Does anyone know how to correct this problem without formatting and reinstalling Windows xp?

Write Backup Files On HD Rather Than Floppy?

after reading ms + others I have a couple questions the insert disk can only be a floppy? that can't be right todays pc's only have cd or dvd or possible usb any way to write the backup .bkf file to a dvd instead of some hd other than the c drive? the writeup talks about formatting the entire c drive before the new windows install, is it not possible to just just reinstall windows, in the old windows folder, leaving the drive intact, so you still have documents and settings, program files, etc, so that when the asr restores the os image, all the old programs etc are still there ready to run?
