Whenever I try to shutdown my computer or restart nothing happens. It just stays at my desktop. If I try to log off or switch users I get a black screen and a small message window saying with the title of, "Parser Message" then in the window it says, "Value creation failed" at line 40" (with the quotation in the middle). The only way I can turn the computer off is by holding the power button. When I turn the computer on I get the same message and click ok a couple of times then I get to a log on screen where you have to type in a user and password. Normally I just click the user's name. This started this morning when I left the computer on (accidentally) and showered, when I came back my screen saver was on and I moved my mouse and I had the message. I tried going into safe mode and doingsystem restore but that didn't work and I couldn't shutdown from safe mode. When I eventually log on everything works normally. Please help me before I break my computer.
I'm using Windows XP Professional as my O/S. I have a peculiar problem with my keyboard Logitech New Touch Multimedia with DIN connector. I have created two users, both with Administrative Rights. The problem is that the keyboard is detected only in one User. If I log off that user (the one in which the K.B is detected) and login the other, the keyboard stops working and all the LED's are switched off as if the Power to the keyboard is shut down. But on logging in the previous user, the keyboard starts functioning again.
I have a file I want to delete. When I delete using file-delete on the pull down menu nothing happens and the file remains. The file will not allow me to delete it using the left button on the mouse pad.
how to use the standby, as i've used it before in the past times, but recently when i click standby and i wait it does not go into standby and remains normal. Im pretty sure its not a virus/ malware seeing how i scanned my computer with nothing suscipicious.
Windows XP hangs at windows is shutting down message - when shutdown is done. The power & HDD LEDs go off.Processor fan is still ON and remains ON.I need to switch off the main power supply. When I switch On the main power supply, it will remain in a shutdown state where no LEDs are working, processor fan is OFF.Configuration: Processor: Core2Duo 2.4 GHz Motherboard: Mercury 945 GCM (Intel chipset 945 based).RAM : 2 X 1GB = 2GB Transcend Elpida 667MHz Operating System: Windows XP in C Drive, Windows Vista in D Drive. All motherboard drivers are installed.
I have an odd problem. My CDROM remains open all time. Even when I try to close it it reopen again. It's very annoying since I cannot install any software using CD.
The computer has sluggish and aggravating moments. Frequently, Internet Explorer Windows get hung-up, and will not close or open. Tabs get stuck and won't change. Boot-up time seems slow. Connection tests indicate speed is optimal, but IE remains slow and clunky. A HJT scan has been performed. I may correct any issues. Also, if there is any fat to be trimmed, oo.
After a recent win xp pro sp2 install, a system idle process always remains on. It doesn't take more than 16kb usually, so is not a big problem but it does manage to keep my PC's busy light flickering constantly! It is really annoying, but it did not come with the install either, it started a little after it. In my opinion, it was not triggered by any kind of a software or program, but is another one of those "unfortunate mistakes" that windows keeps us entertained with. I probably could fix it with a windows wash, but I was wondering if anyone has any other ideas. My CPU is 700 mhz, celeron B (or the old one, from 97). I have enough disk space, ~ 100gigs, so I am sure it has nothing to do with the page file either.
when I power on my computer system, monitor and box, here is what happens. My box turns on fine but my monitor remains blank as it makes a click, click, click sound. Each click turns the green power light on and then off, on then off, for about 60-90 seconds. When the monitor finally responds and turns on I am at the boot page in Windows. Here is what it says: The previous performance of overclocking is failed, and the system is restored to the default settings.
browsing web sites, and right before my eyes (not even a screen flicker) the display widens, while the resolution remains the same; looks like my monitor needs to be a few inches wider on each side to fit it all. "That's weird," I thought, and went and tried to fix the display as per usual...no dice. Reboot, no dice. While rebooting, I noted that the startup BIOS info was wide too, and not fitting on the screen...I booted up Ubuntu Linux just to see, and it works just fine...so
This is SIMILAR to several posts I've seen, but different in a subtle way. I have no desktop icons and no wallpaper on one of my computers, but I have the start toolbar and tray icons, and I have access to task manager and all my programs. However, when I right click on the desktop and click arrange icons all the options are grayed out. Also, I cannot change the wallpaper - it remains solid blue (or any other color) no matter what I try. Neither picture wallpapers nor tiled wallpapers appear. I've included the hijack-this log below.
At completely random intervals(e.g. 2 minutes, 3 hours, sometime during the day/night), the computer 'locks me out' - the screen remains visible but the mouse is 'frozen', the keyboard will not function, any discs in their slots will not release. The system will restart with no apparent problem until the next lock out.I've had a systems check done at the local shop and they are fairly certain that the hardware is not causing the problem.
I decided to use a computer at an Elementary school I work at in Japan. I switched it on and then checked my email and surfed the web. I decided to shut down the computer after I finished. The next day a teacher says do not shut down the computer because last night teachers could not use the computer. Is this just a security reason once you shut down you can't use the computer again for that day? I always thought it was simply reenter the password and reconnect to the internet again to use the computer again.
When I try to shut down my computer start turnoff computer turn off, nothing happens. I have to shut it down by holding the power button until it shuts down.
Every now and then when starting my pc (WinXP), it seems to enter a hanging mode. I know when the problem is occurring because the sound card icon doesn't show on the task bar.I don't know if all programs are non-functioning, but the internet connection and the sound card are not only when this occurs. The main problem: the pc will not shutdown. Bringing up the task manager won't work either, leaving me no choice but to shut off the pc via surge switch. What can cause this problem?
When I go to the start button and go to the turn off computer option, the computer freezes. Then when I shut down by going to windows task manager, after everything closes and goes to the screen "windows is now shutting down", it never shuts down. The computer just stays on that screen forever, and then I have to shut off the computer with the power button.
I've had a problem with my computer; in the past, almost every time I turned off the computer and rebooted, I would have to enter safe mode and then switch to regular mode, so I generally kept the computer on. After a longer than normal power outage, my computer doesn't reboot anymore. When I push the power button, it begins to boot and then shuts down. The computer in question has an amd 1,1 ghz athlon, 1 agp video card, 1 pci dual monitor video card (I run 3 monitors), a dvd drive, a cd-rw drive, a 3.5" floppy drive, a soundblaster card, 56k modem, 40 gig hd and an ethernet card for dsl.I'm running xp home edition with sp2. I tried unplugging various cards and drives, but it still will not boot.
when i press shut down my computer then its going 2 restart and the n give this message:DOCUME~1saikatLOCALS~1TempWER2038.dir00Mini061206-04.dmp C:DOCUME~1saikatLOCALS~1TempWER2038.dir00sysdata.xml
I'm running Windows XP home sp2 on a WD Raptor hooked to a Gigabyte 7NNXP mobo inside a Lian Li tower. I have all the latest drivers, BIOS updates and Windows updates. The problem is that when turning off the computer from Windows it continues to run, (Windows shuts down but power light is on and fans are running). At this point I used to be able to turn it off by pressing the power button [Instant off set in BIOS]. Then that stopped working and I tried the four second delay after pressing power button option in BIOS and that is working but I'm afraid something is not right and continuing without isolating the problem will result in broken computer.
I have a computer that restarts when it should shut down. Can anyone please help me?Hardware:Motherboard - Intel D865PERL Processor - P4 3.0E GHz Memory - 512 Mb DDR PC3200 Hard Disk - 80 Gb Parallel ATA Video Card - ATI Radeon 9250 OS: Windows XP Professional.Things I've tried: Clean install of Windows XP Pro Checked if Motherboard grounds with Case Tried with another Power Supply Latest BIOS Unchecked Automatically Restart if system fails I've visited different forums, and the information doesn't seem to help.A little more explanation, if I shut down some times it shuts down, and sometimes it restarts. It restarts more often than stays of.Usually (9 out of 10) if I flick on the power switch of the volt regulator, the Computer Starts before I press the start button.
Turned comp off. When rebooted it came up with computer did not shut down properly. then gives u option of modes to start in .but will not start in any just loads white bar at bottom of screen .Then restarts repeats.
my computer even though it is turned of the proper way thru the Start button, after 2-3 hours I find it on again No virus or other malaware has being detected by scanning with various softwares.
I have windows xp home edition oem version on compaq presario desk top with sp 2. When I try to shut down and it gets to the "windows is shutting down" it just stays there until I turn computer off with switch. I only use that computer occasionally as a back-up but would really like to fix it. The bios was last updated in 2004 and the power settings of bios are set to default so I believe it is a windows problem. The computer is loaded with pre-installed junk software from a recent restore using the restore cd. I am also open for suggestions on how to uninstall all the junk without causing other problems with the oem windows xp. The computer has 2.8 celeron and 500 mb memory. I would greatly appreciate any help
i was wondering if you could help me with a problem. My computer won't shut down. The only way i can actually turn it off is by the button or *the plug*. I think i'm damaging it, and i recently had it upgraded. here are my specs: Windows XP Home service pack 2 Pentium 4, 3.00 GHz 1.00 GB of ram ASUS P4S800-MX 250GB hard drive and 80GB C drive ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256 MB (VGA graphics card)
This system, for whatever reason, is having some weird issues. 1. Applications keep shutting down 2. The computer randomly shuts off 3. Computer screen will go black, and the cursor will turn into a larger cursor like the cursor looks like when it is in safe mode, and I won't even be able to move the cursor; the fans also started kicking in when it did this as if it were starting to work really hard (only did this once).I've scanned for viruses and spyware. It was relatively clean. Then I did a sfc /scannow. Seemed to work for a while, but now it's acting weird again.
it will shut off and restart itself. He claims that this has been happening close to when he received it. We had no real proof of it restarting until last night when he was actually using it and it restarted before his eyes. He is running Windows XP MCE 2005.
