View 7 Replies View RelatedI sincerely hope you can succeed where others have failed. Since flashing my BIOS recently, I have been unable to shutdown my PC without it restarting automatically. I am aware of some possible causes i.e Roxio, I do not have that on my system. It is something that occured since the flash upgrade. The upgrade I used was Award BIOS TypePhoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG I have set optimum values in BIOS and tried shutting down from safe mode to eliminate any added USB devices etc.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAbout 3 days ago, I was on my computer and then it just automatically shut off, then went to a blue screen. I don't quite remember what the blue screen said, but it mention something about disabling BIOS and disableing/removing any new software I had downloaded. I didn't download ANY new software, and I dont really know much about computers, therefore don't know what to do about the BIOs. It also did mention something about disabling caching as well. I thought this was a one time thing, so I booted up my computer again, and it happened at 14 minutes later, and then again and again. I tried doing a last known good configuration while booting up the computer, but than a bigger problem started. My mouse stopped working. It's a wireless Microsoft mouse, and I used the other one that I had, and that didn't work either. It seemed that the adapter didn't want to connect with the mouse, therefore just sat there with the light blinking.

This usually happens as I shut down, when I have notification that updates are being downloaded and installed and the computer will shut itself off afterwards. All has been well until this week. I found that there were still 2 updates waiting for installation. I checked the little sheild and tried to download and install manually. I had a 'failed' notice. The two updates are - Microsoft excel 2003 KB955466 and Microsoft Outlook 2003 junk email filter KB957257.I am not too worried about these as I do not use Outlook, and rarely use excel. However, I do not know why they are failing.
View 28 Replies View RelatedI decided to use a computer at an Elementary school I work at in Japan. I switched it on and then checked my email and surfed the web. I decided to shut down the computer after I finished. The next day a teacher says do not shut down the computer because last night teachers could not use the computer. Is this just a security reason once you shut down you can't use the computer again for that day? I always thought it was simply reenter the password and reconnect to the internet again to use the computer again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery now and then when starting my pc (WinXP), it seems to enter a hanging mode. I know when the problem is occurring because the sound card icon doesn't show on the task bar.I don't know if all programs are non-functioning, but the internet connection and the sound card are not only when this occurs. The main problem: the pc will not shutdown. Bringing up the task manager won't work either, leaving me no choice but to shut off the pc via surge switch. What can cause this problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to the start button and go to the turn off computer option, the computer freezes. Then when I shut down by going to windows task manager, after everything closes and goes to the screen "windows is now shutting down", it never shuts down. The computer just stays on that screen forever, and then I have to shut off the computer with the power button.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI've had a problem with my computer; in the past, almost every time I turned off the computer and rebooted, I would have to enter safe mode and then switch to regular mode, so I generally kept the computer on. After a longer than normal power outage, my computer doesn't reboot anymore. When I push the power button, it begins to boot and then shuts down. The computer in question has an amd 1,1 ghz athlon, 1 agp video card, 1 pci dual monitor video card (I run 3 monitors), a dvd drive, a cd-rw drive, a 3.5" floppy drive, a soundblaster card, 56k modem, 40 gig hd and an ethernet card for dsl.I'm running xp home edition with sp2. I tried unplugging various cards and drives, but it still will not boot.

I'm running Windows XP home sp2 on a WD Raptor hooked to a Gigabyte 7NNXP mobo inside a Lian Li tower. I have all the latest drivers, BIOS updates and Windows updates. The problem is that when turning off the computer from Windows it continues to run, (Windows shuts down but power light is on and fans are running). At this point I used to be able to turn it off by pressing the power button [Instant off set in BIOS]. Then that stopped working and I tried the four second delay after pressing power button option in BIOS and that is working but I'm afraid something is not right and continuing without isolating the problem will result in broken computer.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have windows xp home edition oem version on compaq presario desk top with sp 2. When I try to shut down and it gets to the "windows is shutting down" it just stays there until I turn computer off with switch. I only use that computer occasionally as a back-up but would really like to fix it. The bios was last updated in 2004 and the power settings of bios are set to default so I believe it is a windows problem. The computer is loaded with pre-installed junk software from a recent restore using the restore cd. I am also open for suggestions on how to uninstall all the junk without causing other problems with the oem windows xp. The computer has 2.8 celeron and 500 mb memory. I would greatly appreciate any help
View 15 Replies View Relatedi was wondering if you could help me with a problem. My computer won't shut down. The only way i can actually turn it off is by the button or *the plug*. I think i'm damaging it, and i recently had it upgraded. here are my specs:
Windows XP Home service pack 2
Pentium 4, 3.00 GHz
1.00 GB of ram
ASUS P4S800-MX
250GB hard drive and 80GB C drive

I use my computer 2 to 3 times a day. Is it best to turn it off each time, or leave it on until the end of the day?
View 14 Replies View RelatedThis system, for whatever reason, is having some weird issues.
1. Applications keep shutting down
2. The computer randomly shuts off
3. Computer screen will go black, and the cursor will turn into a larger cursor like the cursor looks like when it is in safe mode, and I won't even be able to move the cursor; the fans also started kicking in when it did this as if it were starting to work really hard (only did this once).I've scanned for viruses and spyware. It was relatively clean. Then I did a sfc /scannow. Seemed to work for a while, but now it's acting weird again.
it will shut off and restart itself. He claims that this has been happening close to when he received it. We had no real proof of it restarting until last night when he was actually using it and it restarted before his eyes. He is running Windows XP MCE 2005.

When the PC has been on a while, i press Start, Turn Off computer, the dialogue box does not appear and the hourglass symbol appears, I can still access Task Manager, the graph still unfolds and the CPU usage shows 1 or 2 %. After several minutes there is a beep from the pc, and the dialogue box opens, but if I press it, it starts the process again. I have to press the on/off button to shut down. Does not seem to happen if the pc has only been on a few moments.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to shutdown my computer or restart nothing happens. It just stays at my desktop. If I try to log off or switch users I get a black screen and a small message window saying with the title of, "Parser Message" then in the window it says, "Value creation failed" at line 40" (with the quotation in the middle). The only way I can turn the computer off is by holding the power button. When I turn the computer on I get the same message and click ok a couple of times then I get to a log on screen where you have to type in a user and password. Normally I just click the user's name. This started this morning when I left the computer on (accidentally) and showered, when I came back my screen saver was on and I moved my mouse and I had the message. I tried going into safe mode and doingsystem restore but that didn't work and I couldn't shutdown from safe mode. When I eventually log on everything works normally. Please help me before I break my computer.
