Computer prompts for Windows Xp Startup Password that I do not know. It says: This computer is configured to require a password in order to start up. Please enter the startup Password below. Below the space to enter the password you can hit ok or restart. After unsuccessful attempts because I do not know the password a system error comes on the screen.lsass.exe- System Error Which says: When trying to update a password, this return indicates that the value provided as the current password is not correct. This does not allow windows xp to open and the same startup password prompt box occurs in safemode. I have tried using the toshiba satellite l 25 s119 series recovery disk but to no avail, it not does work. Can anyone diagnose this for me?
I recently purshased a new pc.i got outlook express up and running ok and was recieving e mail no problem.i downloaded a free AVG anti-virius from computeractive`s web page along with the mcafree one that came with the pc.whats happeneing is that whenever i send and recieve a pop up appears at the bottom of the screen saying "e mail scanner" and the system prompts me for a password.if i click ok its prompts me again and if i click cancel it says "password was rejecteed" i did read somwhere that some anti virius software can cause a firewall that prevents you recieving mail.maybe its somthing really simple im just overlooking.
I am running xp on my home 'puter (sony vaio a-290) & an unable to use the cmd prompt.I can open the cmd prompt now ( it used to flash & then disappear not so long ago) but am unable to type anything in it. Very frustratingThe command prompt is almost equally frustrating. Altho it allows me to type & run an ipconfig, for some bizarre reason, it will not allow me to ping anything. If I type ping & then an ip or address, when I press enter, the command prompt closes.
Is there a way to get rid of those security warning prompts when I'm tring to install programs? I've disabled everything in the security center but that didn't help.
I'm not sure what happened, but up til a few days ago when I would boot up my computer, it would go straight to the desktop screen.when I boot it up a window pops up asking me to enter a password. I've never set up my computer to take passwords. I'm the only one that's ever used this computer. So I just click OK and only then does it go to the desktop.
Is there a way to bypass the password at startup? I dont have a password so i just hit return, but still a pain. And Ive already turned off the user accounts login. Being thasts just as bad. I just want it to go strieght to windows like befor the service pack 2 upgrade.
Intel Dual Core 2.4Ghz / XP MCE SP2.Running sfc /scannow I get the following message that is well documented on this forum and elsewhere: "Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL Cache. Insert your Windows XP Professional SP2 CD-ROM now."My problem is that I know I am using the correct CD, and I can't see why Slipstreaming should be necessary, but I still get the error. Some history:01 New PC supplied from manufacturer with XP MCE SP2 backup disk02 Reformatted the HDDs and rebuilt the PC how I wanted it to be using this backup disk to load the o/s03 After installing a particular application I startedto get odd behaviour so ran sfc /scannow04 The error reported above occurred so I checked that the CD has a full i386 directory (it does, of course given I used it to build the PC)
When i go to certain sites such as http://www.saymail.sympatico.ca I get a popup window with a scrolldown list of previous user names I have typed in. How do I delete this list of user names?? In the windows help it says click on the name of the drop down list and click on delete, but the user names are still there, not deleted, Thanx, Win XP home edition, service pak 2
I have bought a new laptop recently and i followed the steps into entering to windows. However, when i reached the window log on popup, i cant seem to go pass it even if i entered the same password and username taht i created. Is there any way that i can reset the startup and setup?
I try to start up, and it doest freeze, but it hangs after I type in my password, I can move the mouse, but my busy light blinks in controlled blinks... either way, It just did this after I removed some old nForce chipset drivers, then reinstalled them. I used DriverCleaner, and updated to my motherboard's latest drivers. My mother board is a MSI K8N Neo4-F (Socket 939)... AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 2gb ram, XFX 7900GS XXX Edition. Before I backup drivers and files and reformat? I have to restart the computer a few times to get it to get past the login screen, and the nVidia BIOS screen will change font sizes, but not by much, after every other restart... But everything runs smooth when I start in safe mode. Also - Once I turn the computer on, the busy light is going on full, all the way untill windows gets to the login screen. UPDATE: Loads have not been as slow, but I cant still log in, unless in safe mode.
I'm running XP, SP2, and every time I open a folder, whether My Computer, Control Panel or on my desktop, the installation of Adobe Acrobat begins. If I then cancel the installation, the desired window opens up and I can navigate up and down as normally - it only happens on the initial double-click to open the folder. The only thing I've been doing recently that might have changed settings and prompted this was in attempting (without success) to set up a home network. I've run a full AVG virus scan without results.
I changed from a domain to a workgroup on a work computer that stays at home, but remotely access the network via the internet. I had to reboot, however it turns out the account I was using is on the remote domain, so I cannot log in. I don't have the administrator password, and would like to somehow set the domain back to what it was earlier so I can log in again. How would I go about doing this?
I started my computer this morning and my system font apparently changed somehow. I was loading new fonts last night before I shut down. Now upon start up everything is in something like wingdings but different. All of the characters are something else, so I cannot type in my password in start up. What can i do now, since I cannot get into windows to change my password.I tried the double cntl-alt-del at start up. That brought me to the start up screen with recognizable characters, but my password did not open windows.
My PC won't remember usernames and passwords though it prompts me to save them after each time i login.
I have turned it off in Autocomplete and put it back on and no effect.
i did some changes in the control panel as advised by a website to boost game speed. One of these was to go into the control panel and then admin tools and system and disable some of the automatic loaded programs.
I have also lost the windows xp theme and cannots ee how to restore it.The option is no longer present in the themes available.
How can I disable the windows service that prompts me when an executable file is from any unknown publisher? The attached image is a screen shot of the security warning. I don't care about any of the associated risks with disabling this, I've already disabled the windows firewall and security center, I just find this pop-up quite aggravating and would like to know how to make it stop
My sister's computer is running very slowly, particularly at startup (which seems to take forever). I've got Panda antivirus software running and do reasonably regular spyware scans with AdAware, but am not sure if the problem is just that the computer is old with too little memory / overheating because it's on almost all the time / something else I haven't thought of. To help me determine what's going on, could someone much smarter than myself take a look at this HJT log and see if you see anything of concern?
i was tryin to speed up my computer one day trying to get it too only 1 account on pc. So im type commands to hide or delete account access and it happened i could not access any users it says password but i never set a password. My laptop does not have a cd drive and does not support usb drive booting. Anyway to add or re-able accounts from welcome screen? Cant login to Any Accounts such as Administrator
I am running XPHome,Dell 8200,256MB,intel pent-4 proc.,1.75Ghz. When I try to log on my computer I get as far as blue screen with window xp logo that appears right before the login names; and it remains, but won't go any furhter. I've tried to logon in safe mode, last known good but was unsuccessful. I tried to do a XP repair from the operating system cd. It loads everything but once I try to logon after rebooting it stays at the blue screen I mentioned earlier.
I have an administrator account and the guest account. Well my dad took my computer away from me for a while and he changed the password to the administrator account. The problem is, he can't remember what he changed the password to. I only have access to the guest account now, so I can't install or uninstall any unwanted programs, the quality is horrible and I don't have any of my music I've searched around for password reseting programs, but that doesn't help since I can't even install anything on the guest account. Is there any way I can retrieve my password My dad has sat down and tried all the possibilities he could think of, and so has my mom and I've spent hours trying all possibilities I can think of. No success. He thought it was "help kori" since the password hint is "mom and dad will". Is there any way to get my password back
This tweak gives a user the opportunity to use it for good or bad. It enables the user to re-password any account without having to know the existing password and also shows you every account that exists on the machine (even the ones that are hidden). This is a good tool to use if you forgot a password to say your administrator account and you needed to be logged into the admin account for any reason. To view all of the user accounts:1) While logged onto the computer, click on Start>Run>and type in CMD. 2) From the command prompt window, type in net users. This will show you every account that is made onto the computer whether it is hidden or not.To change an account password:1) While logged onto the computer to an account that has administrative rights, click on Start>Run>and type in CMD. 2) Type in net user then the name of the account then * and press enter. heres an example: net user administrator * or net user "Joe Smith" * . Put the name in quotes if it contains spaces.3) From there it should ask for a new password. Type in your new password (type very carefully - the command window won't display what you type) and once more to confirm it.
My friend has not set a password on her computer. All of a sudden the password screen popped up and she can't get into her computer. She tried entering her on-line PW and it is not accepted. I have searched at MS and cannot find a fix that applies to her situation. Has anyone experienced this and if so what did you do to fix it. I am afraid she is going to have to reinstall.
I need to reformat the entire computer. It's an old laptop that was used for business and therefore has all of these programs on it that I do not want anymore. Things like asking for a username and password at startup. I know you guys may say "boot from the XP CD" but will this erase EVERYTHING? By the way, I do want to erase everything.
I got this computer for free from a family. It has WinXP Pro. Just after the Windows Splash screen it gives me the option of signing in as one member of the family. There are four different boxes for each member of the family. Evidently the parents each had a password and the two kids didn't have passwords. Also, when I sign in under the different children I get different desktops. How do I get rid of all four of these so that I can just sign in by myself without these options?
If you want to go straight to the Desktop, go to Start>Run and type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes. Then select your account from the list, and uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". I tried to the user enter a username and password I unmark it but it couldn't type anything on it. Bob Augello isn't highlight either.
I'm running an AD site with XP clients, I locked the screen on one of my machines using ctrl-alt-del > Lock Computer. On my return, the username and password boxes were greyed out.
I could still click the dropdown to choose between domains but couldnt enter a username and password so had to hard reboot the machine
My PC has started to go very slow when starting up. It's normal up to the user password, then MSN Messenger starts, and then it just sits there for around 90 seconds. During that time I can start Task Manager, but there is nothing obvious in there. Heartbeat is still going and processors are very low usage. In the system tray, it looks like my webcam has started, but Kaspersky AV does not start until it un-freezes. I can't start anything as the pointer remains an hourglass.
