I don't know much about computers, and by my own admission,I send emails and yahoo, and play games... or I am trying to. I noticed that I couldn't save a photo sent to me on my yahoo email, saying 'your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded'.When I tried to download free games off MSN, this was also the message.I have read some of the posts regarding security, and the answers are all regarding settings in OE. Strangely enough, I don't have outlook express, although I used to, so don't know where it has gone.I followed one link going through the 'run, cmd.etc etc' and that didn't do anything, came up with an error message. I have only had this computer 3 months, and can't have broken it already.
for anyone that hasn't followed my threads, My computer is new, and I am just now learning XP. My computer came with XP installed, already on it. I have no CD"S or Programs at all, with it. I have this icon on my desktop that gives me a TRIAL verson, of Microsoft office 2003! Then I have to buy it. Yes, it aggravates me that this isn't already on here. Is there any place possible I can download this from? I have looked on the microsoft websight, and couldn't find it.
Pentium III, XP Pro machine: Recently did 2 clean re-installs (due to malware problems),& was working fine. Then ran rkill & Malwarebytes to get rid of Antivirus 7. Seemed OK after that. Then installed & ran TweakNow Power Pack (registry clean), Smart Defrag(deep optimization) & Revo Uninstaller. The machine began to slow down after using these utilities (I DO NOT know if they were the cause, or if it was just coincidence). Then ran Malwarebytes again, then Avast, found 50+ malware items. The machine keeps getting slower, it's now almost unusable. It boots, but incredibly sluggish, Internet Explorer takes forever to connect, constantly "hangs" for very long periods, HDD almost always churning.I'm thinking that maybe one of the utilities deleted some files needed by the os, maybe a repair install the thing to try. I cannot find this "Free XP Repair Disk Download" that is supposed to be available at the MS XP download site.
Just installed xp on my home built system and had some problems. I need to download something to help with the problems but I don't want to download it without virus protection. Please give me a link to a good free virus protection program so I finish fixing my PC.
i am a beginner and have tried to sort this out by searching the net for a cure - but every 'solution' seems to be a ropy sales gambit! When I try to download, instead of a dialog box choosing between 'Run' and 'Save', it's one offering me only 'Find' and 'Save'.Clicking 'Find' brings up the Windows File Association page stating:-"MIME Type: application/x-msdownload Description: UnKnownWindows does not recognize this MIME type." What do I need to do to get XP to recognise the file?
After downloading a game, I found out I needed Microsoft DirectX SDK to make it work. I downloaded it but now it's telling me:There is not enough free disk space on drive C:The amount of free space required on the drive is 1, 124, 040,704 bytes. The space currently available on the drive is 612, 560, 896 bytes. I've tried getting rid of as much as I could on my computer (Microsoft XP by the way) but it didn't make much difference. And I really don't have much at all on it either.
a Trojan Horse called Spy Falcon on my machine. I have all the required stuff since it's a new machine, and now I can't get it off. If you could suggest a free download site to remove this, and if not, could you recommend a site that is pretty inexpensive
I had dreams of networking the 2 computers together. The library computer came with Windows 98 on it. In my ignorance I took my Windows XP disk that came with my current computer and loaded that onto the library computer. I thought it was like a music CD, where you can use the same disk in all the products that you own. I found illegal to load one operating system onto 2 computers using the same disk. I bought a Windows XP upgrade from Office Max yesterday for the library computer. I have been told though that I need to have Windows ME or 98 or some older version on the computer for the Windows XP upgrade to work. Since I've already put the XP on the library computer it doesn't have 98 on it anymore. win ME or 98 disk from a friend that has upgraded to XP if they have one laying around.
I have 432MNz 192MB I have done disk clean I have done defragmented. and it said that I needed more space to do defragment properly. I was told that I had 5% free space. After defrag I did not gain any free space. I don't have much on computer to delete, Please help. I am not to computer literate.
My computer has 66gb of space. a few days ago, when i checked,it had 33gb of free space.since then, i updated my adobe reader, and i also upgraded my antivirus to Norton Antivirus 2007. Now there appears to be only 22gb of free space. Is this normal? Now( i think As a result,of this upgrading), my computer now is really slow to startup, and just as slow when reloading from a hibernated state. is there anything i can do to speed up the computer startup,or is there something wrong?
My computer seems to be getting slower and slower....I have a lot of hard drive space left, and have a decent amount of RAM. I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me figure out what's going on, and fix the problem?
I bought over a year ago and could use some helpful advice to help fix some problems ive been having. I really do not know much about computers although im taking classes to get my knowledge up to par in spring these problems need to be handle as soon as possible so i can work on some family projects. Just to give you an idea i would start LimeWire or IMESH and start downloading stuff then all of a sudden boom it hangs and doesnt respond and screws my whole system up. Not only those programs but games as well. Ive tried everything i could think of, PCBugdocter, Registry Cleaner, Adaware, Spybot, and PCBoost and nothing gives. My hardware all checks out ok on the service manager with none errors that i can see. My hardware also has the latest up to date drivers.
Hey guys, I don't have the computer in front of me, but my mom's computer is working really slowly, and it's had the defragger ran on it, and according to Ad-Aware and AVG it's clean, so what could possibly be making it run so slowly? If you absolutely have no idea, I'll try to get a hijackthis log for it, but as I said, Ad-Aware and AVG didn't find anything wrong with it there, and I ran the defrag on it the other day and it didn't help at all. Plenty of space left on the HD, so I have no idea what is going on....except that maybe the computer is a lemon. They've had problems with it since pretty soon after they bought it, but it's just progressively gotten worse.
To free memory, I right clicked on the recycle bin and slid the slider bar from 10% to 1%. However, when I check hard drive space in Windows Explorer, the freed memory isn't there, even when I restart the computer.
I have tried lots of time to download windows updates, when I go to the updates page all I get is: Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update software.Depending on your connection speed, this might take a minute. During this time, you may receive one or more security warnings. Review each security warning to ensure that the content is signed by Microsoft, and then click Install or Yes to install the software.and that is where it stops. It will not go any further. Page says 'done'. I have let is sit for hours and still nothing. When I go to Control Panel and click on 'Windows Firewall' the message I get is: Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings. I am not sure if this is part of the problem or not. I have recently done a Compaq System Recovery, but not a destructive recovery, just to restore the original files that were loaded when machine was new. Since then I have not been able to download windows updates. Everything else seems to work fine. If anyone has any answers I would be very grateful. My computer is Compaq Presario P8654T S3000T (OEM) running window XP, 2.40 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4, 512 kilobyte memory, on a cable modem.
I keep getting the following message when trying to download updates on my Vaio VGN-FJ270. I have not had this problem in the past when downloading updates from the MS web site or through the automatic update application. I am currently running XP Home Edition 2002 Service Pack 2.

How come my sister computer is blocking all cookies? she went to one of her sites and it says to enable cookies.can someone tell me how to do that please? (im not sure if this has anything to do with the cookie blocking but she is using zone alarm security suite for her anti-virus and firewall)
