Aug 5, 2005I don't know much about computers, and by my own admission,I send emails and yahoo, and play games... or I am trying to. I noticed that I couldn't save a photo sent to me on my yahoo email, saying 'your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded'.When I tried to download free games off MSN, this was also the message.I have read some of the posts regarding security, and the answers are all regarding settings in OE. Strangely enough, I don't have outlook express, although I used to, so don't know where it has gone.I followed one link going through the 'run, cmd.etc etc' and that didn't do anything, came up with an error message. I have only had this computer 3 months, and can't have broken it already.

Jan 16, 2005for anyone that hasn't followed my threads, My computer is new, and I am just now learning XP. My computer came with XP installed, already on it. I have no CD"S or Programs at all, with it. I have this icon on my desktop that gives me a TRIAL verson, of Microsoft office 2003! Then I have to buy it. Yes, it aggravates me that this isn't already on here. Is there any place possible I can download this from? I have looked on the microsoft websight, and couldn't find it.

Jun 6, 2010Pentium III, XP Pro machine: Recently did 2 clean re-installs (due to malware problems),& was working fine. Then ran rkill & Malwarebytes to get rid of Antivirus 7. Seemed OK after that. Then installed & ran TweakNow Power Pack (registry clean), Smart Defrag(deep optimization) & Revo Uninstaller. The machine began to slow down after using these utilities (I DO NOT know if they were the cause, or if it was just coincidence). Then ran Malwarebytes again, then Avast, found 50+ malware items.The machine keeps getting slower, it's now almost unusable. It boots, but incredibly sluggish, Internet Explorer takes forever to connect, constantly "hangs" for very long periods, HDD almost always churning.I'm thinking that maybe one of the utilities deleted some files needed by the os, maybe a repair install the thing to try. I cannot find this "Free XP Repair Disk Download" that is supposed to be available at the MS XP download site.

I downloaded it but now it's telling me:There is not enough free disk space on drive C:The amount of free space required on the drive is 1, 124, 040,704 bytes.The space currently available on the drive is 612, 560, 896 bytes.
I've tried getting rid of as much as I could on my computer (Microsoft XP by the way) but it didn't make much difference. And I really don't have much at all on it either.

Jan 6, 2006I just want to verify I can install windows XP Pro upgrade (student/academic version) on a new 200GB SATA drive. The sata drive will be the only HDD in the desktop PC, I will insert the XP disc and boot from it; at some time I will have to press F6 and insert a floppy with drivers for the SATA drive. And as this is a upgrade version I need to supply another version of windows; so I can put in an old Windows98 disc. Is that right or do I have to install windows 98 first then XP and if so I do I install 98 on a sata drive?
I am getting the student version of Windows cause you save like $120 dollars; but there is nothing different from a normal Windows XP pro is there? I was planning on installing Visual Studio .net and MS SQL on this computer; I will be able to do this right (I know windows XP home does not have IIS so some elements do not work in VS if on a home version; but the student version has IIS right?) Good Free Antivirus Except AVG Free
Mar 13, 2005I have a client that for some reason AVG will not update except manually going to the grisoft site and downloading the update. I have tried every thing including installing from a CD, Installing from the Grisoft website, updating manually, and for some reason the AVG update manager will not work. Can someone recommend another Free Antivirus that is as easy to use and as automatic as AVG is, that I can install on her computer. This is an elderly woman that needs things as simple as possible. May 3, 2006I know that may seem like a relatively obvious question however I was hoping to flush out some details from people with more experience than I possess.I was told that if you have a retail copy of XP pro, if you stop using old machine and buy a new 1 then you can transfer your license across. I however purchased an OEM copy of XP pro about 4 years for my old laptop. I have not used it in a few years and was hoping that if I make a new computer I can use my old key. I am pretty sure when I try to activate it that it will say the key is no good and to call their help number but what details are stored on their system? If I say that I have simply formatted my old machine and are doing a new install will I then be able to use the code they give me for my new machine or is the code somehow 'locked' to the CPU number or something? If any1 has any experience migrating a license across then please advise me. I do not wish to use a pirated copy and will buy a new license if needed but hope that it is not neccesary since I paid for this license and I am happy to format my old machine and not use it again.

I have all the software that came with it, and I have a copy of XP home, but I can't find anything with the license key information. The F10 recovery does not work. F8 does not work. I cannot get Windows to load at all. Does anyone know how I can find out what the license key is? Will HP give me that info? I can call them..but I just hate talking with their tech support.

Pre-install Without License Key
Jul 13, 2005I have about 30 laptop computers with XP Pro. I'd like to install the OS, Office, and other APPs w/out using a specific license key. Then, make a ghost image of that installation. Later, when a laptop goes bad (they do all the time) I can ghost the image back, register the appropriate license key(s) and get started. Is there such a way for me to install Windows and Office?
