Nov 5, 2008I've been trying to download an audio driver on my newly formatted windows xp pro computer. I can't seem to be able to download the audio driver I keep getting an error stating that the driver has not passed windows logo testing. I know I have a AC97 Sound Card.

Apr 30, 2008I've noticed recently there is ongoing, intermittant internet activity when I'm on-line using dialup. This is a fairly new condition. The main reason it came to my attention was I've been downloading win updates from the catalog site to keep on my external drive for potential future use, and the download speed would randomly slow down.
I went into my Zone Alarm (free version 7.0.470.000) and looked at the programs currently granted permission to access the internet trusted zone. Among them was "Generic Host Process for win32 services". I changed the stauts to "Ask" and since then the intermittant activity has stopped, but I get the ZA popup asking for access by that svchost.exe executable

Aug 5, 2005I don't know much about computers, and by my own admission,I send emails and yahoo, and play games... or I am trying to. I noticed that I couldn't save a photo sent to me on my yahoo email, saying 'your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded'.When I tried to download free games off MSN, this was also the message.I have read some of the posts regarding security, and the answers are all regarding settings in OE. Strangely enough, I don't have outlook express, although I used to, so don't know where it has gone.I followed one link going through the 'run, cmd.etc etc' and that didn't do anything, came up with an error message. I have only had this computer 3 months, and can't have broken it already.

I have no CD"S or Programs at all, with it. I have this icon on my desktop that gives me a TRIAL verson, of Microsoft office 2003! Then I have to buy it. Jun 6, 2010Pentium III, XP Pro machine: Recently did 2 clean re-installs (due to malware problems),& was working fine. Then ran rkill & Malwarebytes to get rid of Antivirus 7. Seemed OK after that. Then installed & ran TweakNow Power Pack (registry clean), Smart Defrag(deep optimization) & Revo Uninstaller. The machine began to slow down after using these utilities (I DO NOT know if they were the cause, or if it was just coincidence). Then ran Malwarebytes again, then Avast, found 50+ malware items.The machine keeps getting slower, it's now almost unusable. It boots, but incredibly sluggish, Internet Explorer takes forever to connect, constantly "hangs" for very long periods, HDD almost always churning.I'm thinking that maybe one of the utilities deleted some files needed by the os, maybe a repair install the thing to try. I cannot find this "Free XP Repair Disk Download" that is supposed to be available at the MS XP download site.

Mar 14, 2006Im haveing some sound issues. Sound works through the speakers in games, yet through a browser (IE or Firefox) only works through the head phone jack. So I thought about upgrading the driver, yet I cant figure out how to do that. Under sound, video, and game controllers all it says is Legacy Audio Driver. Sorta vague eh??? Anyone run into this? Nothing crucial here, just very annoying, im not really wanting to have to go buy another sound card simply because I cant find a stupid driver.

I've tried getting rid of as much as I could on my computer (Microsoft XP by the way) but it didn't make much difference. And I really don't have much at all on it either.

It just worked the day before! Then the icon disappeared. The audio is gray in the sound control panel, so we can't do a thing.
