Jul 30, 2009

It is an HP Pavillion 743g running Windows XP Pro, SP2 (installed from a retail disc)It has Realtek AC'97 Audio Card I have attempted to install the driver from HP's website, from Realtek's website, from DriverGuide, and a few other locations.Every version of the installer causes windows to crash halfway thru. I am presented with the window saying it's failed the logo verification or whatever, I click continue anyway, the system hangs for a second then crashes and restarts.

remove programs window is a High Definition Audio Driver Package. It has after it, kb888111. Is this just an update patch from microsoft? I ask because that's all there is. I can't find where the driver itself is installed. It looks like an update, without a program. If i need these drivers, where could i get them?

Device Driver Caused The System Crash?

Apr 17, 2006

When trying to install farstone virtual drive on a computer it reboots during the driver installation phase. After the reboot at the desktop windows says new hardware found and asks to install it. It's the offending driver, fcdabios. Windows installs it and says it was installed successfully. Then the computer spontaneously reboots again. It seems to start alright back at the desktop but again reboots after 2 minutes. The only cure is to do a restore from a norton ghost image. I sent a debug file to farstone but haven't received a reply yet.

Lost Audio Driver After Restart System

Jul 11, 2006

Windows XP and recently had to reinstall due to failures. Yesterday, I clicked on the volume control icon and it said it couldn't do anything because we didn't have an audio driver! It just worked the day before! Then the icon disappeared. The audio is gray in the sound control panel, so we can't do a thing. We have the Windows XP CD, but I don't want to mess with anything, especially after having it reinstalled a short while ago. Is there a place I can download a new driver for this system?

Legacy Audio Driver

Mar 14, 2006

Im haveing some sound issues. Sound works through the speakers in games, yet through a browser (IE or Firefox) only works through the head phone jack. So I thought about upgrading the driver, yet I cant figure out how to do that. Under sound, video, and game controllers all it says is Legacy Audio Driver. Sorta vague eh??? Anyone run into this? Nothing crucial here, just very annoying, im not really wanting to have to go buy another sound card simply because I cant find a stupid driver.

Audio Device Missing Driver

Jul 24, 2008

After going through many trials, tribulations, and attempts to fix my computer, i was left with only one option, to fully restore it back to factory settings. i thought this would cleanse all of my problems. now i have no sound. i have tried running services.msc and windows audio is correctly enabled. it is likely to be a missing sound driver, but i have no clue how to determine where i can get this said driver. i think it is important to note that it appears that none of my usb ports in the front or back of my computer are active.

No Sound After Fresh Install - Audio One Is A Sigmatel Driver

I recently did a fresh install of Windows XP on on my laptop and since then I haven't been able to get sound working. Almost all drivers have been installed and Device manager tells me they are working just fine. My audio one is a Sigmatel driver, if that matters much ... but there's 5 others listed under "sound, video, and game controllers."Almost all drivers, as I said, the ones below I didn't install for various reasons:

* Sony Visual Communication Camera Driver -- It is actually installed, just disabled because it gives shutdown issues.

Multimedia Audio Controller Installation Failure

Aug 31, 2006

I just completed a reformat/reinstall on a Dell Dimension 4700 running an OEM version of Windows XP Home Multimedia Edition. I had a few driver issues, but I got them all resolved but one, and that is the Multimedia Audio Controller, which is listed under "other devices" in the Device Manager. When I run the wizard, it says it can't find the driver. I located the device by running msinfo32, and I went to the Dell site and located the driver I need (I think) which is R89530.exe.

I downloaded the driver and it only downloads about 1 Mb of a 7 Mb file. I double clicked to run it anyway, and after going through the standard process of creating a folder for it, this message popped up: "This self-extracting zip file is part of a multidisk zip file. Please insert the last disk of the set." Then when I cancel out of the download, it gives me the message, "An error occurred while unzipping. One or more files were not successfully unzipped. The error code is 190."

I have downloaded the file from Dell USA, Dell Canada, and Dell Europe, as well as from an ftp site I found on Google, which is a list of Dell compatible drivers, and the same thing happens with each download. Have you ever seen this before, and if so, do you know of any solution? I currently have no sound, except for the pathetic little beep the system occasionally makes -- nothing at all out of the speakers.

No Audio Device Found After Clean Installation?

Dec 2, 2009

I recently found an old Gateway desktop in my basement. It is from a few years back, but I figured I'd do a clean install of Windows XP on it and run it in an extra room.I copied the drivers over using a program called DriverMax, and it seemed to work successfully. I had the internet right away and everything else I tried worked. The only problem I am having is that there is no sound. It also says there is no audio device found. Device Manager says I have the most up to date Legacy Audio Drivers, but I am still having this problem. Is there another driver that I might need in order for my computer to recognize an audio device.

New Installation - No Sound Driver?

Feb 23, 2009

Because I am poor, a friend of mine gave me a brand new machine with a blank HD. I have this morning installed a genuine fresh copy of XP Home which appears to have gone on OK (I have 20 years PC experience, but little of it messing around with new installs).
I got my internet working, anti virus etc, but when I checked the device manager to see why I was not getting sound.
I've done a screen cap of device manager (but I don't know how to place it on here) - If anyone wants it e mailing I can of course do that.
By the look of it, the sound card is integral to the motherboard but the device manager is not identifying it by name. If I am identify / find drivers on the net,

Uncheck Un Signed Driver Installation Warnings

Aug 12, 2002

Many new drivers aren't signed by Microsoft so WinXP will warn you or even prevent you from installing new drivers for a device. To prevent this warning or to allow new un-signed drivers to be installed do the following:1. Go to start/run/ then type secpol.msc2. Browse to local policies/security options3. Change "Devices: Unsigned driver installation behavior" setting to Silently succeed.4. Reboot Computer.Another helpful hint from tweakxp.comKen P Or, especially if you are using XP Home where there is no secpol.msc, right click on your My Computer icon, click properties, change to the Hardware tab, click the "Driver signing" button and click ignore.

If she tries to reboot right away it will crash on the restart unless she gives it a few minutes of down time before restarting. She's running XP and has a gig of ram but the system itself is going on two years old, bought at a convention and has no brand name. Could this just be an issue of bad ram?
