Many new drivers aren't signed by Microsoft so WinXP will warn you or even prevent you from installing new drivers for a device. To prevent this warning or to allow new un-signed drivers to be installed do the following:1. Go to start/run/ then type secpol.msc2. Browse to local policies/security options3. Change "Devices: Unsigned driver installation behavior" setting to Silently succeed.4. Reboot Computer.Another helpful hint from tweakxp.comKen P Or, especially if you are using XP Home where there is no secpol.msc, right click on your My Computer icon, click properties, change to the Hardware tab, click the "Driver signing" button and click ignore.
Because I am poor, a friend of mine gave me a brand new machine with a blank HD. I have this morning installed a genuine fresh copy of XP Home which appears to have gone on OK (I have 20 years PC experience, but little of it messing around with new installs). I got my internet working, anti virus etc, but when I checked the device manager to see why I was not getting sound. I've done a screen cap of device manager (but I don't know how to place it on here) - If anyone wants it e mailing I can of course do that. By the look of it, the sound card is integral to the motherboard but the device manager is not identifying it by name. If I am identify / find drivers on the net,
remove programs window is a High Definition Audio Driver Package. It has after it, kb888111. Is this just an update patch from microsoft? I ask because that's all there is. I can't find where the driver itself is installed. It looks like an update, without a program. If i need these drivers, where could i get them?
It is an HP Pavillion 743g running Windows XP Pro, SP2 (installed from a retail disc)It has Realtek AC'97 Audio Card I have attempted to install the driver from HP's website, from Realtek's website, from DriverGuide, and a few other locations.Every version of the installer causes windows to crash halfway thru. I am presented with the window saying it's failed the logo verification or whatever, I click continue anyway, the system hangs for a second then crashes and restarts.

I tried to reinstall win xp but it is barfing at my modem / router driver. It complains that the driver isn't certified by Microsoft, and crashes. I've tried rebooting and removing/reinserting the disc but the installation continues from the point it left off and crashes at the driver again.
Even after a fresh re-install of XP the sound driver install causes the machine to crash. No matter what I do. I have most of the files loaded except for the multimedia controller. each time I try to update it , the machine crashes. Not sure if it matters, all high priority updates are done
I recently reinstalled XP but to my chagrin, it seems I cannot install the manufacturers drivers for graphics adapter or monitor, but am stuck with the generic, default drivers whose performance is horrible. It takes forever for the screen to update. I used to know what to do to fix this, but have forgotten how.
I have one physical video card installed in my pc. Its a g4orce 4 ti4400 .In devmgr, i have a hidden, non present card also. Its a gforce FX5200, which I had previously. I uninstalled it from devmgr, and of course it also removed my drivers for the ti4400. But my problem is that after the uninstall,my standby or hibernate options dont even appear anymore. I used to have a way on Win 98 to uncheck things that I didn't want to have on my computer when it boots up. I now have Win XP and can't figure out how to get to the list where I can uncheck things. I activated the Windows Messenger and I'd like to stop having constantly in my face. I'm sorry I activated it in the first place. I don't want to completely remove it, but would like it to stop working for now. Can someone give me specific steps to get to the "start up" list?
I went to set up a new dial up connection in XP.I went to connection wizard, I click next, I check connect to the internet, I click next, I check set up my connection manually and click next. On the how do you want to connect to the internet page, connect using a broad band connection is allready checked and the other choices are greyed out. I cannot uncheck the connect using broadband listing. Every time I try this it is the same thing.
Ever wonder where you file extensions went? Working with files when you can not tell what the file extension can be a huge pain in the butt. MS has made it possible for all file names with the extensions to be shown.in any folder that contains files. Click on the tools menu and select folder options. Then click on the view tab. Locate where it lists Hide extensions of known file types and uncheck it

This occurs even on trusted up to date sites like eBay, PayPal etc. I have to click to bypass the warnings everytime I access one of those sites along with many others. I have a Server 2003 SP 2 DC acting as a print server. It seems to be causing our XP SP2 clients to produce an event ID 20 print warning everytime they try to print as if the driver has changed even though it has not.
I have recently begun to receive warnings in my applications event log that I do not understand. They always come in pairs, Event ID #1001 and #1004, and they always occur three times in rapid succession, but seem to have no apparent effect on my system.
