View 10 Replies View RelatedRecently found my computer running very slow almost stopped, not able to perform any function. Through task manager found CPU running at a steady 100%. Ran Hijackthis, spybot, and updated and ran antivirus - with no problems found. started in safe mode and CPU usage was at 1%. Working through msconfig i started turning services off untill i found culprit. The plug and play service is causing my problem with the CPU, but I don't know how to fix it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI noticed my laptop lagging a lot. I checked the CPU usage, and it was constantly at 100%. After retstart and shutdown, the cpu usage would never go lower than 100%. I did a system restore to a week ago when I did not have this problem, but this did not help. Did a spyware scan with Spybot and Ad Aware, again no help. Did a virus scan with TrendMicro, no help again.

It seems the green line on bottom takes for ever to go across. View 8 Replies View RelatedThe comp's CPU usage is almost always running at 100%. I can see this in the task manager and the fans always seem to be running on overdrive (very loud). Sometimes it'll calm down and usage will run at a normal level but this is only for a short time and then it jumps back up and fans as well. I thought at first it might be my AVG antivirus but i've removed and still have the same problem.

For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. I have gone into task manager and noticed that the CPU usage is quite high, even when there is very little running. At times the system idle will hover in the 90% range, however the CPU usage will also stay in the same range. (As far as I know, if idle is at 90%, than CPU usage should not be higher than 10%). I can't figure out what else is running that is making the CPU usage run so high. I have run various virus and spyware tests and all have come out clean. I have used cc cleaner to clean my registry and even update some of my out of date drivers but the problem has continued.

I don' know what file that is. there are two files that were not deleted: mon000.log and one named Dat.File pefib Perfdata Also ran ATF-cleaner

All drives are defragged weekly, the BIOS is set to boot off of the hard disk, and I only have the one OS installed.This thing use to boot to the desktop in 20 seconds.
View 12 Replies View Relatedrunning xp sp2 on a dell inspiron 9300, xp sometimes starts to lose resources, failing to open new applications, new explorer windows or lacking parts of guis in applications, such as explorer button bars or parts of menues. but if i then close an already open application to free some ressources and repeat the action that failed (e.g. opening a new explorer window) xp might be able to do it properly. i can repeat this a couple of times, until i'm down at only a minimal number of windows/apps and will have to reboot. after reboot, everything is normal again.
here's some more examples of strange things i've seen:
- explorer windows won't open at all, no error msg, system sometimes 'beeps'
- an explorer window might not display the buttons-area under the menu, but only a windows-logo in the center.
- an explorer window might display without the task area (blue area) that's usually on the left side
- whole applications won't start, sometimes giving error messages, sometimes not
there is no consistant error message that would identify which resource type the system is running out on. the system is constantly scanned for viruses, trojans, et. al. using symantec antivirus and hijackthis. there is more than enough memory (2gig) and taskman will display enough free memory when i encounter those situations. the system is used daily (sleep mode at night, no hibernation) and the problem might show up after 3 days or only after 3 weeks.i first suspected photoshop and dreamweaver to mess up something when running in parallel, because the problem always showed up shortly after those two apps had been run together. i stopped doing that, and found that it still happens, but it will just take longer.
