I have windows xp And its running slow , i have just done a system restore, and its still running slow. I have just noticed that In windows task manager,in performance its saying that the cpu usage is 100% when i have nothing running.

View 11 Replies View Relatedit takes forever to do anything. It's like it can only do one thing at a time its so slow. When I turn it on and log into my profile, it takes about 5 mins for it to load the desktop and about another 5 mins to load the antivirus software (Norton Security Suite 2010). The same goes for everything I do on this computer, it takes a while for the internet browser (IE 8 and FireFox), opening any program on this computer takes a while to load up. View 14 Replies View RelatedI noticed my laptop lagging a lot. I checked the CPU usage, and it was constantly at 100%. After retstart and shutdown, the cpu usage would never go lower than 100%. I did a system restore to a week ago when I did not have this problem, but this did not help. Did a spyware scan with Spybot and Ad Aware, again no help. Did a virus scan with TrendMicro, no help again.

Ran Hijackthis, spybot, and updated and ran antivirus - with no problems found. started in safe mode and CPU usage was at 1%. Working through msconfig i started turning services off untill i found culprit. The plug and play service is causing my problem with the CPU, but I don't know how to fix it.

The Windows Task Manager shows "scvhost.exe System100%" As long as I uninstall Norton I can get some e-mail response but really slow.I spent time yesterday with Dell "pay as you need" they had me run a Malware program (found five culprits) and a Spyware program (found 80 cookies)...took a lot of apps off my start menu...had me go to SP3...had me go to IE8. I'm always nervous about messing with that. But, am I right in thinking that disabling something in the MSCONFIG thing at startup won't affect the program??? Can you still get to it? It just won't start up automatically, right? So, could I hurt anything if I disabled alot? So, how could I give you a list of all the processes running? I'm also having a problem with the xp update. Security Update for Microsoft.net framework, Version 1.1 Service KB928366 didn't update. I'm not sure why, but it won't ever update. Also, in AOL I get an error message constantly which says this: A Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to debug. Line:? Error: Object Expected. I have no idea what that means and what or how to debug. I have tried repeatedly to uninstall and reinstall AOL but it keeps happening. Does anyone know what that means.

View 10 Replies View Relatedi have a dell dimension e310. 2.9 ghz. 4 gigs of ram. windows xp... umm so just recently we took it into the shop and they re-installed the operating system. because we thought it was infected with virus' or w/e.ever since, its been running slow. it boots up ok...and for the first few minutes its running...not fast. but not too slow. and then it kinda just freezes. i can move the mouse but if im running windows explorer(havent been able to re-install firefox) it kinda just sticks there. i installed norton 360 and it says the pc i running fine. i dont know what to do about it. i have to wait an hour just so windows explorer can close..very frustrating...
