The comp's CPU usage is almost always running at 100%. I can see this in the task manager and the fans always seem to be running on overdrive (very loud). Sometimes it'll calm down and usage will run at a normal level but this is only for a short time and then it jumps back up and fans as well. I thought at first it might be my AVG antivirus but i've removed and still have the same problem.

View 47 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem where everything seems to take up way more CPU usage than it used to. There is no application stealing processing power. Rather, when I start an application that would normally use a bit of CPU, it now spikes the CPU.In particular, 5 year old game called Neverwinter Nights is now unplayable and spikes up to 55% CPU usage on both cores even though it should only hit one core. The Earthsim program also does the same. So do other applications.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have a computer running windows xp sp1. it has p4 1.7 cpu and 1g ddr sdram memory.recently i noticed that the computer was very slow in opening up programs or some other simple operations. i have norton anti virus running all the time, so it should not be virus. i also scanned the system using adaware and every thing seemed ok.so i am just wondering if it could be the memory, as i am using two memory with different speed, one 512 at 2100, and the other at 2700.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is an hp pavillion dv4000 version 2002(w/SP3), and I got it almost 3-4 years ago. It has, as expected, gotten slow over the years. But now, it's EXTREMELY slow. As in, it takes like 10 minutes to start up. It takes several minutes for my internet browser to pop up. Doing more than one thing at once is impossible. And I constantly have "Virtual Memory Minimum Too Low" popping up...from doing even the simplest tasks on it.
I really like this laptop and don't want to purchase a new one. I want to completely wipe off everything from the laptop and then reinstall windows XP so that I can start afresh. Problem is, I don't have the CD, my laptop never came with it. The manual says it already came with the recovery feature pre-installed.
My computer has been running slow lately, i have looked at my hijack log, and let me know if there's anything there that should not be.

Recently howver I have been getting a pop up info bubble informing me that my system rosources are running low.I have around 20G free on the hard drive, have run various spyware and virus checks all to no avail.I have also ran registry cleaners and fixers, but again the problem persists!I have normally only got Yahoo Messenger and Internet explorer running before the message pops up, and I have also recently noticed that my laptop has started to slow down a hell of a lot.I have tried everything that I can think of what with my rather limited knowledge so thought that I would ask the experts.

View 3 Replies View RelatedXP Home reboots in the 3+ minute range. Once it gets to the 'Starting Windows XP' screen, it loads fine. Some damnthing is hanging.MY comp is running slow. Expeciially on the net. Task manager is reporting no excess network use. IE 6 acts like it's on a 56k modem. I use Mozilla FireFox, which runs fine, but my wife is a IE 6 fanatic. Shareaza and WinMX load slowly and take a minute or more to change tabs. BitTornado (latest versions all) loads and runs fine, but seems to hang after an hour or so. It stops updating speeds, seeds, peers, etc. It also closes slowly. Once I get online, the comp slams on the brakes. Mozilla is the only app that seems unaffected. Sygate is also logging a lot of portscans. 7 in the in the last hour or so. All from the same IP address.

Both IE and Firefox had slow connectivity yet I had him do a speedtest with speakeasy.net and it showed good speeds. He says the longer the computer is on, the slower is a surfing the internet. CPU usage is normal.

Could the recovery have messed with his computer networking drivers? He used a gateway recovery disk. His computer is either a gateway or dell computer.
This problem surfaced when I was editing a movie, (in "Movieshop") playback became a problem. Although I don't believe that movieshop was the cause of the problem, during the edit process, outlook played a sound to tell me I had mail - there was none.I have tried to repair my o/s but I am still experiencing problems, including:"Unable to complete the operation on "Application/Security/System/Antivirus" the interface was unknown" when trying to read the event viewer.My drivers seem to have rolled back. Moviemaker crashes, microsoft say that this is due to my soundcard driver, I have updated and rolled back about 5 times - no change.Boot ups take forever, the "windows is starting up" screen sits for far too long.

Whenever I try to hibernate my computer, the message, "Insufficient system resources to complete the API." comes up. Afterwards, anything concerning hibernation disappear and the hibernation button cannot be clicked. This Printer is shared and set to allow "Everyone" full controll.PC2 is able to connect and print to the shared printer on PC1.PC3 is also able to connect to the shared printer but it takes 4 minutes to connect and then another 4 minutes when you try to display the printer properties. It's not too bad when I'm not on the Internet, but websites open really slow, and some of them just quit before they even load. I was gonna run a registry cleaner, but then I saw on here that it isn't recommended! I was using Norton, but recently uninstalled that and installed AVG, which I ran as well as Adaware; neither found any major problems. I posted a HijackThis log a few weeks ago, but no one responded so I assume there wasn't anything there either. My used space is 19.1GB and my free space is 50.6, so I don't imagine that is the problem either. I'm running Windows XP. Any suggestions on how to speed this thing up, or is it just suffering from old age?

I am not down loading any programs or anything I want to keep, also I daily run ADIOS to clean out all the cookies, temporary internet files, etc. I have deleted all programs that I am not using, also I am allowing SYSTEM RESTORE to to have only 1022 MB of space.
