I just want to know how to change screen resolution in safe mode. The reason is when I try to use certain programs in safe mode, I can't view all the options and buttons of the program because it goes off the screen and resizing dosent help.I go to desktop properties and try to change it but the bar will not slide to any other position.
View 4 RepliesMy main pc is stuck in a boot cycle giving me the black screen with options to start in safe mode etc etc and when selecting one of those options it reboots to the same point. When I press return the system tries to start it attempts it, clicks then goes back to boot cycle. The Windows XP system disk won't cut in like it should so I cannot gain control of the pc.
System is a Dell, 2years old and has had various viruses despite having the usual protection. I am currently using my old trusty Advent Pentium 3 for this message (which has never had the same degree of virus prob's curiously). After the first virus Dell talked me through using Ghost - brilliant. Within a couple of days it was hit again and usinng Spybot got rid of the virus but PC kept displaying the message rundll.dll file damaged. So I used XP Recovery seemingly with no problem only to find it won't reboot.
When I start PC, it automatically takes me to the startup options part to reboot in safe mode, safe mode w/ networking, safemode w/ prompt, last known good config, & normal startup. Getting Stop c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file) SystemRootSystem32Config

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got some particularly nasty stuff on my system (running XP Home Edition), so I want to do a scan in Safe Mode. However, whenever I select safe mode, my screen tells me that the signal is out of range, and underneath that it says "35.5KHz / 87Hz". I have a Sony screen, in case that helps any. I looked around for solutions, but all I found were some fixes for when this happens on normal Windows, which involves going into Safe Mode. So no dice. I also tried VGA, but the picture is so horrible I have no idea what is on the screen.

View 8 Replies View Relatedi messed around with it for a while changing zoom, stretch, dot to dot ect .Finnaly i got the tv's view mode to normal no stretch and filled all 32" perfectly with my desktop and the resolution was something like 2040x1200 or 1920x1080 not sure exactly..i should have wrote that down but close to that..

However for the specific D:/MP3 Folder I would like to Have Details and my own columns. I'm really bombed out when I have to scroll left to right on any web page. I love CNet forums, but it is a constant matter of that irritating scrolling that may make me stop using it. Yeah, I've tried adjusting my screen resolution, but then the type is so small it becomes a chore to read it. And, other websites designed to use my screen resolution look ridiculous in the browser. I don't care what "statistics" say about screen resolution,the vast majority of web sites are constructed to fit 800x600 res. Either that, or the web masters are smart enough to code them to fit various resolutions.

The only way I can get to my desktop without waiting 25 minutes AND having start button and others freeze up and then taking 5 min for each click, I have to first go to Safe Mode and change sometihng in mcsonfig and then restart.
Then I use Normal Mode and get to my desktop with no problem and nothing freezes BUT I then have to reset all my SERVICES in "Sevices ans applications" since they become disabled each time I use Safe Mode. Note: I made sure to diable all unnecessary servies and use only the startups I need in msconfig.
All very time consuming and debilitating. Then I can get online and everything is fine.BUT then each time I shut down or restart my computer its the same cycle all over again. Note: The problem seemed to occur when one day semingly out of nowhere I turned on my compuyer and my logon was apparently corrupted. NO spyware, viruses. Clean machine. When I got to my desktop there was a white screen as oppsoed to blue with an alert to restore my desktop. But when I clicked the restore button notihng happened. Someone told me I may have a corrupt logon name and to set up another which I did and everything wokred fine except for, as I said, when I shut down or restart my computer.
I tried system restore but apparently there are no options/dates to restore back to.
Ive spent 200 hours on this and am ready to throw in the towel. I dont want ot have to resort to a clean reinstall of Winxp but if I have ot can you please inform me about how to keep my files intact (pdfs, word docs and pictures). and if I need to back them up,
I was just using my PC like any other day. Now I am saddened by the fact that I have a BSOD and being unable to use safe mode or trying any other solution just makes me even more sad.

I started windows Xp in safe mode and my mouse wont respond. I have a serial mouse not a USB mouse.
