Iv got a Gateway MT6705 laptop with Windows Vista Pre Installed and I dont like it one bit. But when I went to install Windows XP Professional SP2 It says No hard drive found. It has 120Gb SATA hard drive installed using a Intel SATA Controller.

Well I deleted my Enhanced 2.0 port and now Windows is telling me that it can't find the driver for it!I have used the Windows CD and it still wont work! I am at a total stand still. I recently bought a dvd drive online but I find it has what I think is a sata socket. Can anyone tell me where I can see a picture of a sata socked so I can be sure, I can describe it looks rectangular with two plastic bars running parallel in the centre one longer than the other with little dots at the bottom.

I cannot seem to find anything resembling this driver on Lenovo's "Driver Matrix" or anywhere else on their site. Is there a generic one out there that anyone knows of? I want to slipstream this into an XP install, but I can't do it without the driver.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm can't get WinXP installation to find my Sata Hard-drive. I'm running Suse Linux on my IDE-HD and I could also had no problems getting my Suse 10.1 installation to install on the SATA-HD. I've booted up with winxp media install disk and tried to use the F6 key at the right time but nothing happens so it keeps going until I get to the point where I can press the S key to install SATA RAID driver from disk that came with my motherboard. The drivers install but then windows install still says no disk to install windows... I don't get it.
I've checked my bios and SATA in there, in fact the first thing I see when I boot up in the boot sequence is the SATA drive. Linux knows it's there but windows install doesn't. I installed XP on a WD SATA drive before and all I had to do was press F6 to install the controller from the XP disk but that doesn't work now.
Just curious to know details on this question. We are getting a 2nd DELL. The first one is as follows:

OUR newest computer is of course different in other ways, but instead of Intel Pent. 4 it is Intel Celeron.
When I try to install Windows XP, it goes through the setup files (blue screen) like it's going to install and then I get a message that says "Setup Cannot Find CD-ROM Drive" blah blah blah. "Setup Cannot Continue". At this point it says to press F3 to reboot. So I remove the XP Disc and reboot. It then gives me an option of picking which system to log onto out of 3: Win Xp Media Center Edition, Win XP Media Center Edition again, or Windows XP Professional (which I've never had by the way. I have to choose the first one and it will go back to my computer. My computer has been having a lot of problems, so I just want to do a fresh install of XP and start over. I don't care if I lose anything

I have tried two new drives now and it is simply not getting past this point. I have gone in to the bios to ensure it is booting from Windows Operating System CD and it is still not finding. HP told me I have to check motherboard? Is there anything else I can do or am I going to need to buy a new laptop (the old hard drive is no longer working...started making weird noise).

View 15 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to get into my Dell Dimension 8400. It may be I am having problems due to the SP3 update but I cannot get in to see if it is there and uninstall it. (It started going to the blue screen and I cannot do anything from any of the safe mode screens...they are just black with "safemode" in all 4 corners.) I have read up on the SP3 problems on the microsoft forums and found instruction on how to take care of it. It starts with the Recovery Console and the XPCD.

I have a Dell PC. I installed a copy of Windows Vista on it. I don't like it, so I am trying to reinstall XP Home. When I click on the cd drive the XP Home CD is in, it brings up the menu, but the "Install Windows XP" option is grayed out. I try to boot from the disk, but when it is done loading all the things and I tell it I do not want to repair, but to install, it says "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on your computer" and makes me reboot my computer. Vista still works fine, I know the Hard Drive is working
I have just purchased a Campaq Presario laptop v3607TU. It came with only "FreeDos" installed. If I boot up, it goes to the c prompt, and I can see call the directories on the hard drive. inserted my Windows XP bootable disk into the CD/DVD slot, and restarted. It booted from the CD, and the setup files begin to be read. Then I get a message that says, Setup cannot find any hard drives on your computer. The only option is F3 QUIT.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a major problem with my Packard Bell iMedia D815AW home desktop. Ever since I installed a Lite-On DVD-RW into it, it started making a lot of noise (a bit like the sound of a typewriter tapping) and started crashing. I removed the DVD-RW drive, only for the problem to continue. The computer kept crashing (often showing the blue crash screen, other times showing a black 'insert floppy disk' screen, sometimes just restarting itself). Running the Windows disk check utility at start-up would not work - the computer would freeze while the disk scan occured (I tried many times). I ran disk registery programs (ie- Registry Mechanic, etc), anti-virus software, defragmentation, etc. etc. but the problem remained. Yesterday, I decided I would try reinstalling (or restoring?) Windows XP again (with the intention of fixing the problem without deleting my personal files on the computer). However, upon instertion of the disk, Windows XP claimed it could not reinstall, as the Windows version on my computer was too recent. I assumed that the reason for this was that I had installed Windows XP Serice Pack 2 and so the version was too recent for the installation disk. So, I thought I would uninstall service pack 2 and then try to reinstall Windows XP. However, while uninstalling service pack 2, the computer crashed. Since then, whenever I try to startup Windows, the computer restarts after about 30 seconds of loading. I can enter the startup screen which gives you access to entering through Safe Mode, Debugging, etc - however entering through these modes has the same problem though with the computer restarting before reaching Windows. So, I entered the computer BIOS at startup and changed it to load via CD, inserting the Windows XP disk. I tried to use the 'Recovery Console' option, however the error message "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer" showed. It then asked me to restart the computer by hitting F3. I then tried to use the Windows install option by restarting the computer and loading the Windows XP disk, but the same "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer" message showed. So, i cant load the computer, nor reinstall the software. I dont want to lose all the files on my computer.
View 9 Replies View Relatedrunning XP setup from CD to try to do a repair results in "no installed drives found." when placed in another system as a slave, its found as quickly as the master HD is when its alone, and seems to function normally - chkdsk & surface scan find no errors & kaspersky finds no MBR or other problems. i even used TestDisk to rewrite the partition table and MBR to no avail. i'm able to copy off all my files, but would like to know if there are other things i can try. is there a way to XP setup repair / replace boot files on a drive other than C:? or can i use anything from a working system to fix the slave drive? can i ghost the partition and put it on a new HD and run repair there or will the boot problems be copied with the image?

my system crashed for no reason. when i started it back up, it was in dos with the menu of 4 boot options. hard drive, cd rom etc.. it wont boot from hard drive so i put the windows disc in and tried to boot from it. it tried to setup but it said it cant find a hard drive and to exit setup.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I've been trying to install XP SP2 on a system that was recovered using an XP upgrade disc that only had SP1. The setup program gets through backing up, creating a restore point and so on, but during the actual file installation process, an error causes setup to abort and undo all changes made (rollback). "Service Pack 2 Setup Error." is the title bar, and "The system cannot find the path specified." is the message, the only option is to click ok, which opens the XP SP2 uninstall wizard. I've tried using Subinacl to reset security settings, tried installing in both safe and normal modes, used chkdsk /r and /p and tried installing again, and each time got the same message.

I've tested faxing from Word on my PC and it works fine.However, when other users try to install the fax client, the setup hangs asking for the fx* setup files. I've tried different XPSP2 CDs, copying the files to a local directory, making sure that the users have local admin rights (and even domain admin rights) but to no avail. The files are already in the system32 directory so in theory the setup doesn't even need to copy them. Even if I delete them, it doesn't work.Our corporate SMS team reckons that there isn't any policy which could
cause the problem.
