Every time I boot up, I get hit with two "Found New Hardware" things, something about an ethernet controller and an SM bus controller. The computer works fine, but I'm getting sick of that stuff popping up. Is there any way to disable it, other than having to hunt down drivers which may or may not fix the problem?

I recently figured out that some kind of virus is attached to my harddrive that is not picked up by any detection program. The files end in .exe and when using task manager, I delete the file and it generates a new file name with the same extention repeatedly. The CPU usage stays at 100% making it impossible for me to navigate the internet and play on line games. I did a file search, deleted the known files and rechecked task manager. They were still there. If I sit and delete them each time I turn on my computer it
takes me considerable amount of time and even then I may not get them all. I don't know what else to try to get my computer running better without a total reboot

I need to find out what ethernet card it is, so that I can install the relevant drivers to get it to work. I've tried to do some detective work to find out what ethernet card I to find the corresponding drivers. All I can come up with is from the Packard Bell website (the company from which the machine came). The only details I could find for the ethernet connection are something that says: LAN 10/100 (marvell 88E8039)
View 8 Replies View RelatedWorking on xp box, wouldn't backup data from qbpro directly to cd, uninstalled nero, realplayer and other extraneous items, rebooted and wala! No problem, cd writing wizard popped up after backup, did probably 10 backups. She also mentioned that her accountant couldnt get her flashdrive to install anymore. I plugged in usb device. No sweat, popped right up. Today she called, same problem, have to shut machine down completely to resolve it now, windows restart won't fix it. (which sadly, I realize was the case yesterday) She was atttempting to make multiple backup cd's, so she checked burn same again. It comes up with insert writeable cd. Doesn't recognise swap, after exiting cd wizard one time, it did pop up with the contents of the cd, but only one time. Also figured out that if I insert usb device after restart, it recognises it correctly, but then get write error (insert writeable cd) when attempting to do a a backup. If I start doing backups, can do them fine, utnil trying to write same file to another cd. Have found many referneces to autoinsert errors in the registry etc. but auto insert appears to be working after restart. Am confident complete reinstall will fix the problem.

I do jsp development using JDeveloper and on occasion my system would lock up (no Ctrl-Alt-Delete). I put up with it thinking that it was a JDeveloper peculiarity. A few weeks ago my system started locking up when the Panda antivirus software was running on start up. So I stopped the service and tried to run Panda manually. It locked up. I uninstalled Panda and tried another antivirus software. It locked up. Also, my spyware program locks up and it will intermittently lock up now at other times when I'm not using any of the above software

I even tried disabling the welcome screen, and I still get asked to login first.

I have become quite irritated by the various strange noises which happen at a "system event". I have found the dialogue box where additional events can be added to the sounds but I cannot see how to turn off the ones already there. I do not want to use "mute all" on the volume control as I frequently listen to music.
Any suggestions welcome.
While in that area of the screen, I want to remove some of the icons. The dialogue box is set to "always hide" the offending Icons but they are still showing.

When I log into the laptop itself, the wireless connection icon in the bottom right shows "acquireing network address" for a second, finds it, and then the laptop is on the network again. I'm assuming that when I do RDC into the laptop and the desktop takes over, the network adapter on the laptop thinks it's time to sleep or disable, and drops off the lan. I confirmed this by doing a ping fromthe desktop to the laptop. Before RDC, no problem. After the RDC connection hands, I can't ping the laptop anymore. Once I log into the laptop itself, I can ping the laptop from the desktop
Lots of schools need to run one desktop for all users. Not a standard default user template. But to actually disable user profiles like you could in windows 98. Running XP on a HP/Compaq NC6000. Had a page from HP site bookmarked that told what registry key to modify. HP has removed the thread, can't find the answer elsewhere. Ideas appreciated. View 1 Replies View Relatedthis is for the new icq lite currently Build #1253. This will disable advertisment display but, unfortunatly will leave the place holders for the advertisments. Atleast you don't have to stare at those annoying flash advertisments.
1) Open up windows explorer and navigate to the folder you installed icqlite*ie. c:ProgramFilesICQLite
2) Right-click on the folder and chose properties
3) In the properties dialog choose the security tab*note: you may have to enable advanced security to view this tab on some versions of windows
4) In the security tab remove all permissions except for the system and set the system permissions to deny all access for read, write, etc.. for this folder*note: you must have admin right to the machine in most cases and also may need to disable permission inhertince from parent under the advanced tab
5) Apply the changes and restart icq
What you have just done is denied Icq access to its temporary folder where it stores the advertisment information and now advertisments will not be displayed. This will work with any icq version as long as you can find the folder where it saves its advertisment info.
