MAJOR problem trying to install windows XP pro. After rebooting I keep getting to the same screen the "welcome to setup" screen, where I hit ENTER , F8 at the EULA, then I see the partition list.At this point regardless of if I hit ENTER for the selected partition, or delete and recreate the partition (and reformat to NTFS), it loads files from CD, then reboots and takes me back to the same screen.
I loaded Keperksy virus programme from PC user disc and the next time I turned my lapptop on it loaded and came up to a logon screen for windows xp. I have never had this screen come up before in the 4 years that I have owned it. I have tried escape, enter, all the passwords that I use and noting has worked. I have tried all the usernames and even the previous persons username and all I can get is the desktop screen with no icons on it, if you know what I mean. I downloaded boot discs and can load to the A: prompt, I can change this to C: and even Windows but the only command that seems to work is Dir. how to get my PC back to normal. I have tried to boot using F8 in safemode but when it loads it goes to the logon screen. It loads Windows for about 10 seconds and then logs out. I have no original discs for using to reload windows xp. It is the Kaspersky programme that has altered something. I cannot get into my PC setup to type regedit at the run command.
I can't get XP Pro to get past "Setup is starting Windows" ,to allow me to format.Loads all drivers up to that point, then the error in above post.Pressing F6 or F10 to install 3rd party(XFX MB drivers) has no effect, and Alt-F2 ultimately gives error also.S prompt is no joy also.Tried F8 for Safe Boot and no joy.Cleared CMOS several times. All drives are there in CMOS. All RAM (4 Gigs) is detected I raised Memory voltage to 1.9 volts standard for my ram),and raised FSB to 1600 Mhz from 1333 (standard also).Put timings to standard 7-7-7-24T Tried Memory linked/unlinked/Auto/1T/2T I Tried only 1 SATA drive, and 1 Gig of RAM with 1 DVD RW /2 drives and 2 Gig of RAM,I Enabled standard RAID for each and every drive and ultimately disabled them cause I want the XFX 790i ultra motherboard RAID Drivers.
I recently installed xp for the first time after replacing motherboard and CPU.I skipped setup because I didn't know what I was doing. Now I can't boot up (cold or warm) without using the original disk. Can I just go into setup and change boot settings without re-installing.Is there anything else I should know before I attempt to fix this problem? I am tired of using the disk every time I update something or install new program.
I won't get past the Welcome Screen. I click on my Id and just says loading personal preferences. Right before that happened, I working on my comp. and just froze, so I turned it off and then when rebooting that happened. I have windows XP and haven't messed with the configuration settings, the only thing that I did notice was when I was changing my background picture, I guess that's when it froze. I have also tried starting it in safe mode, but the same thing, just freezes when in the welcome screen.
I have tried repeatedly to download Webroot Window washer ver 6.5 to my wife's computer. For some reason the download arrives with the select language menu vacant. When you click on the dropdown menu, it is also blank. You cannot continue past this screen. My wife has McAfee Virus Scan and Spybot Search and Destroy plus the firewall that Microsoft supplies. Could these interfere with the download? If so, how do I temporarily disable them so I can download Window Washer. As an alternative, can someone suggest another program which will function like Window Washer?
I am running Windows XP media edition on my Toshiba Qosmio Laptop.Currently when I startup I can get only as far as the windows starting screen with the little timer bar flowing but it never goes any farther. All I can do is power off and then start in safe mode.I have tried system restore to several points in the past to no avail. I think the problem may be to do with display drivers as it started shortly after installing Battlefield 2 (a little too advanced for my machine!!) which comes with some nvidia drivers. I have re-installed the drivers that came with the PC and this hasn't worked.
When I turn the computer on, it goes straight to the login screen, when I click on my name, it just tells me it is loading personal settings, and then it logs me off, then I'm right back where I was. I cannot even get into the computer.
I have an HP Pavilion 700 and I cannot get past the HP screen when booting up. What can I do to get to my desktop and if I ran a recovery would I still lose all my pictures? I need my pictures off first and then I can reformat if need be.
I am experiencing an error with Windows XP in that when I click on any user name it will not let me go any further. The user name is highlighted and the hourglass appears but then nothing. Any ideas? Also is there some way I can by-pass this screen, for example by using DOS or holding down a button?
Have a friends computer which had many spyware and trojans. Cleaned with adaware, spybot, cwshredder, trojan hunter, cleaned out cookies and temp internet folder. Lastly I ran defrag. It was after defrag that I encountered my problem. When I re-started the computer, it would take me to the login screen and ask me if I wanted to log in as the user or administrator, I chose user. The screen would say "loading your settings" then the desktop background would flash then it would go back to the login screen saying "saving your settings." Tried to start in "safe mode" and in "last known config", however, this problem would occur in all modes.
1st, computer will not boot up unless I unplug the power cord for about 5 min. Then, when I plug it back in, and turn on the computer, it says "choose which windows XP startup you want to use".When I let the time run out for the automatic start, it brings me to another screen. Sometimes the screen is just blank and other times it says "Sorry windows XP could not be booted up" because of some new software updates that was added recently. Then it shows options for all the ways to boot up my computer. And it recommends that I choose last working mode.So I go to that and it either freezes or brings me to my main microsoft office screen and at this point it has the loading bar going across. This either brings me to my main screen or this freezes.I've tried several times and have gotten to several different points but ultimately it freezes.
Im having many problems during the instalation of microsoft net framework. First of all this occur cause i was trying to install NET FRAMEWORK 3.0 on my computer but the instalation never ended and it give me some errors, so i uninstall every version of the program trying to reinstall them again (i read this may be a solution (i use add/remove programs and a clean up tool specified for removing net framework)), first i try installing 1.0, but a message says that i already have it installed, then 1.1 which i could install fine, then the SP1 for 1.1 says that i need version 2.0.5556 in order to install this service pack, then i try to install 2.0 but an incompatibility error appears referring that i may have installed " framework 2.0 sp1" (wich i dont), then i try installing 2.0 sp1 but i get a "setup error" nothing else, same when trying with 3.0.
i have try different things like starting/stopping msiexec (on safe mode), installing and removing net framework several times or trying to install IIS (wich i couldn't cause i dont have the original windows cd) as possible solutions, but this problem is driving me crazy! Is there a solution like uninstalling all, installing all again without format? i think it maybe has something to do with file extensions missing, i read something about MSI files, but im not share.
Why do i get this error message whenever i try to install certain programs, such as ACDsee, Acronis True Image, and a couple of other utilities? I've never had this problem before when installing these programs on my other Pc's. This message pops up right when i click on the setup.exe on some programs- not all, but some
I have a compaq presario 2500 laptop with windows xp home edition sp1 installed. I had left my computer at the desktop screen to go do something and when I came back avast antivirus had come up with a message saying that one of my files was infected with a trojan. i believe the file was stored in the system or system32 folder. anyways, it had reccomended me to move the file to avast's "virus chest", so I did. and i went ahead and worked on my laptop as normal. then after shutting my computer down and starting it back up later in the day, i found that my laptop would not load any further than the blue "windows is starting up..." screen. i let it sit there for about 30 mins. so then i went to my desktop and started researching my problem on google. i tried going into safe mode, but it still gets stuck at the same screen.
After a visit to the wonderful land of pornography, my dell (about 5 years old) has decided that it doesn't want to boot past the loading screen. Just before this happened, I booted up and the screen froze on the desktop, flashing some distorted lines across the center of the screen. I have tried rebooting multiple times and running diagnostics, but nothing appeared wrong. I'm going to assume its virus related.
when i start-up in either normal or safe modes, I get past the XP logo screen with waving flag, then I go to the screen with each user listed out, except the users aren't listed and there's only an off-center XP logo and I can't get in to anything - and i can't do system restore because I can't get a Start menu or anything.
I copied my laptop hard drive with Norton Ghost 14 to a larger HD and installed it onto my Dell Inspiron 9300. It starts with the Windows XP screen with the loading progress bar and gets to the blue screen with Windows XP and just stalls, won't load. I can get it into safe mode but it gets to the same splash screen and stalls again.
I want to install Windows XP Pro 64 Bit on my Hp dv9907ca, which came with Vista Home Premium 32 Bit. I upgraded my RAM to four gigs, and get better gaming on XP and I'd like to upgrade my 32 bit to 64, problem is, the installation hangs as soon as it gets to 'Setup is loading Windows' still int he text based installation. I believe I read somehwere it's because of some sort of hard drive connection that's in newer computers, and XP doesn't have drivers for it. So basically, I'm wondering if soeone can figure out what's wrong, and tell me exactly what I need to do in order to get XP to work, now this is a laptop so I can't change any parts in it or anything like that.
How can I get past the logon message screen when it is asking for a password and I have never had a password. I did a Window-Washer and rebooted and it is saying I need a password to get in.
My computer starts up normally until it gets to the part where "Windows XP" shows up with the blue loading bar. When it gets to that screen, there is a few secs of harddrive activity and then it suddently just stops. THe screen stays the same wit the blue thing moving. I am getting no errors or anything. I am able to boot up into safe mode just fine. I can still get my files and everything. Is there anything that can be done to fix this? Could it be that a file just went corrupt? Manybe a way to reload a fresh version of the file? There is nothing I can think of that made this happen. The only thing done was creat a new account and then after creating the account is when the problem happened. I even tried a system restore to about 2 weeks ago and nothing. The same thing happens
THis has happened to me before. I was able to fix it for a few more boot ups by doing a system restore but then the same thing would happened. The only way i was able to fix it was by reinstalling windows again and i do not want to do that unless if it is my last option.
whenn i start my computer i come to the windows loading screen, and stays there. i have tryed start in safe mode, but explore won't open, and when i open via task manager it just open and closes again in seconds. i have also tryed chkdsk in console, no luck.. i have tryed start virus scanner in task manager, but when it comes to a certain registry file it stops, so i have an idea that the registry is corupted... i have no win XP cd available for about 3 weeks,
I'm using windows xp home sp2 and when ever I try to turn on the computer normally it comes up with a blue screen saying something about
C0000218 system32/config/default or log or replacement It is corrupt
then resets the computer (the message is something along those lines) When I try booting into safe mode or safe mode with networking it scrolls txt down the screen then resets the computer. The only way I've got into it so far is with knoppix to backup what will fit of my gbs of files on to my laptop via a pen drive.
I turned on my PC this morning to find it would restart after the Windows Loading screen and give me the list of safe mode, etc. I went into safe mode but it done the same. This is also the case for all of the other options, including last configuration. The previous night I received a BSOD (Blue screen of death) and there was a count up showing memory dump to hard drive. I read the instructions and as it said it was my first event and so I restart. However, I did restart when the counter was at around 34. Im guessing thats really a % and I should have waited until 100%?
When you start the computer it boots all the way to the login screen with all the users then you hear a clang from inside the computer then it restarts. It'll go into safe mode. I ran spybot and adaware from my thumb drive but they both couldn't fix all of the listed problems. Tried to do a disk check but it would stop due too "unspecified error". The hard drive is only a little over 6gigs with 15% free space(after cleanup from safe mode)Got it defraging now(gonna take all nite) Like I said this is an older machine as my g/f had one just like it and hers had windows 98 on it original. Not sure if my friend upgraded to xp or it she bought it like this. Says it was working fine up until a couple weeks ago.
I recently reformatted my laptop, and I got everything working, I had some network connection issues but I got past those. After installing SP2, I was unable to access any Microsoft websites, so I uninstalled SP2, after the uninstall process, it blue screened, though I don't remember what it said, it shut down after about 5 seconds and I was unable to catch the text displayed. Okay, so I try to start the computer up again, safe mode (all of them; networking, cmd prompt, etc) - Safe mode will not launch so that's out of the question. If I start windows normally or last known good configuration, it gets to the windows splash screen, and then goes black. If I could just get my important files that I moved to my computer, I could reformat again to try and fix the problem.. I have my XP disk in right now and was going to try and use the Repair on it, but I'm afraid that it'll stop any chances of recovering my lost files.
I've got a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop that won't get past the blue screen of death. If i choose to start up on last know good config this is the blue screen i get:If i choose to start up in safe mode i get this screen first.

I've been trying to install Windows XP service pack 2 and I'm having no luck at all.I consistently have this message pop up everytime I try to install: Service Pack 2 Setup Error Service Pack 2 Setup could not backup registry key HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstallQ282010 to file C:WINDOWS$Nt ServicePackUninstall$ eg01617. 5: Access is denied.
The PC is now over a year old and has been running fine for about a year.

Now about 6 months ago, I started to get the Nvidia card sentinal saying the Graphics Card isnt getting enough power and will reduce its performance to prevent any damage. I checked it all out and it appear to be fine so pretty much ignore the issue.
