Error Message Flashes On Bootup
Oct 17, 2005As my XP computer boots up an error message flashes by and then disappears and the computer continues to boot. All seems well. Im fairly sure its from a prior program, Acronis something or other that I deleted. It was a program similar to Norton Ghost for backing up and rebooting in case of emergency that gave you the option to press F11 during boot up if you wanted to it use it in an emegenecy. Anyway, how do I edit it out of there? It drives me nuts. I also think both my boot time and shutdown/restart times are slower than what they were or should be.

Mar 30, 2007when booting up my computer and after logging on I receive the following error messages before the windows screen comes up:
1) regedit.exe - The procedure entry point PrintDlgexw could not be located in the dynamic link library comdlg32.dll.
2) hpppt.exe - This application has falied to start because WNASPi32.dll was not found. re-install application may fix problem and last but not least
3) The procedure entry point PrintDlgexw could not be located in the dynamic link library comdlg32.dll
I do not know why these error started all of a sudden and do not know how to fix them. By clicking on OK for each error message I eventually get to my windows screen and can do everything, print. open documents, check outlook and go to the internet. I have an operating system Windows XP on a DELL optiplex gx280 system.

Aug 18, 2009I was wondering if people had any suggestions about the following problem I have.I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop (couple of years old now) and it has Windows XP Media Centre Edition installed on it. I has been running perfectly fine all of this time until very recently.I started it up and selected Windows XP on the boot loader (I have dual boot installation with SUSE 10 but I have not used this for at least a year), and noticed something odd. The initial bios screen at the beginning of bootup had vertical stripes down the page over the top of the dell logo.When the windows XP loading logo appears, I get similar striping. After a few seconds the computer halts to the BSOD and gives the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error and halts.I have managed to boot up into windows safe mode, with no problem, and interestingly the vertical stripes are not evident here.Firstly I thought it might be a graphics card issue, so I downloaded the latest drivers from NVIDIA and installed them in safe mode, however this has not had any effect.After this,

Display Issues- Graphic Distortion And Cannot Open The Display Settings
May 8, 2008The monitor started showing graphic distortion. I ordered a new monitor but had the same distortion on it. I updated the ATI drivers but it did not solve the problem. In trying to trouble shoot the problem following directions on the ATI website, I changed all the graphic settings to the lowest and slowest available. This got rid of the distortion but the settings need to go! Now I cannot open the display settings.

Mar 25, 2008My XP is currently defaulted on it's display settings 640v by 480 pixels and will not allow me to change it. In fact, there is nothing to change it to. Apr 3, 2008All my text/font display settings seem to have changed. I downloaded a freeware program today called avi2dvd, to convert avi video files to iso files for burning to DVD. I tried it out, got frustrated with it, and uninstalled it. After I uninstalled it, I went to check my email. That's when I first noticed that all the text in my yahoo email account had changed - it seemed smaller, like it was at a lower resolution.
I clicked on a few more pages and it was the same for all of them - the text was just not as...smooth. Not as readable. And definitely smaller. It's not just a font size thing, I'm not that much of a newbie, I tried enlarging the font and it's definitely a resolution thing, not just a font or size issue. Then I tried out some other programs, and found out that the problem was system-wide. I use a writing program called Final Draft, and the text in that is also less readable.I found one program that hadn't been affected: IE all my web pages display fine in Explorer.
Display Settings Changed: Wont Access Features In Display Tab?
Apr 18, 2006my mom installed a virus the other day on accident. (Some program called Dr. Spy Shreddar, or something like that.) I deleted it, but some stuff was weird with the computer. I tried restarting the system to get the old configuration back, but the virus just installed itself again. I removed it again, using instructions from Systematic Antivirus and now it's really gone. Some of the settings were still weird though. So after hours of searching the help topics on Microsoft I managed to fix 1 & 1/2 of the problems I had/have.
For one of the problems they made me go into the registry and set something to the value of 0 in order to get the desktop tab back in the Display Properties box. (You know when you right click on the desktop and select properties.) That's all fine and dandy, but here's the other 1/2 of my problem: I can't access some of the features in the tab. (I have Windows XP Professional, by the way.) I can't click inside of the background list and it's shaded a sort of brownish beige color. I also can't browse and do anything with the position setting. I can however access the customize desktop and color features
Display Issues- The Display Area Has Been Reduced By 40 Percent
Aug 5, 2008I was installing security cables for the computer stations. when I finished and rebooted the computers(had to disconnect power and other cords to run the security cables) one of them had a display problem.
it seems that the display area has been reduced. the functional area of the screen is maybe 60% of what it should be. in this area it is complete with the full desktop able to be accessed and nothing is missing. but the right 20% of the screen is solid black (cursor stops at the boundary) and the bottom 20% of the screen(that's not black) is displaying a second image of the top 20% of my desktop. (cursor also stops at this boundary.)
Display Issues- Have To Change Display Properties At Every Startup
Dec 7, 2007I reinstalled XP Pro with SP1 on my computer today. Everything is working well except when my desktop loads the actual display is about an inch to the right on the screen. If I go into properties and change/apply the screen resolution from 800 x 600 then back to 1024 x 768 it realigns and all is well. I would just prefer to not have to do that each time I restart windows.

Jun 1, 2006I am experiencing pixelization problems. At first it would only occur at boot up or reboot. Now it is happening all the time which can be help somewhat by refresh, changing the desktop picture, and/or logging off then on I have tried, disabling the 128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800 Pro using device manager. At first it was OK but at low resolution (VGA I think), but when it asked if I wanted to let windows manage the graphics it got garbled again. I have reset resolutions down to 800 x 600 using the graphics card but that doesn't help.

Now the window has cut off 20% of the side of window and there is no way to bring it back into the window.If I mazimize the window size the scroll doesn't show.If I make the window smaller so that the horizontal scroll does show it won't scroll far enough to the left to show the missing section of the window.

May 26, 2005A friend of mine asked me to look at his computer, after he was noticing a significant slow down in system processes etc. Its a 3 yr old Dell, 1.79gHz with a 30 gig HD and 256 megs of memory, running WinXP Home Edition. He never really knew much about computers, and as I discovered, he hadn't run his virus checker in almost 2 1/2 years, so that was certainly a dead giveaway that he was having problems.I managed to get AdAware and SpySweeper loaded onto it and ran them both, between the 2 programs I was able to wipe out a good majority of the cookies, the spyware and malware, however when I rebooted, the system immediately slowed down as soon as the desktop appeared and then ground to a halt entirely. The mouse moves, but that's it. I'm unable to Ctrl+Alt+Del, in order to shut it down I have to unplug the power cord, since it doesn't have a reset button.
I haven't yet been able to run HiJackThis! on the computer, I'm hoping running it in safe mode might afford me the ability to do that, but since I'm unable to decipher what it says, I'm going to be needing assistance on that level as well.

Using Msconfig, I do not have Acctmgr as an option to check in Startup and viewing Microsoft Services, I see nothing pertaining to Acctmgr I could check. Am using XP Home with SP 2 Installed. ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO HOW I CAN ACTIVATE ACCTMGR UPON BOOTUP?

Mar 4, 2005I have upgraded all of our pcs to SP2 (WinXP). Since then only some of the pc's exhibit issue. SVCHOST maxes at 100% for 5-10 minutes on bootup then resumes normalcy. I've narrowed it down to the Internet Connection Firewall causing the issue (if I kill it the prob. goes away). I need to have this enabled. Aug 29, 2008When I reboot my PC it takes a good 3 minutes to get from the "Welcome" screen to being ready to work with only 4 items on System Tray, volume, Sunbelt Vipre, Zone Alarm Firewall, and Win Patrol. The, "RECGUARD" isn't shown but is there also RECGUARD, Vipre, Win Patrol, and Zone Alarm is all that's present under msconfig Startup. I have ran CCleaner, Defrag, Disc Cleaner, and Registry Mechanic to no avail. Under, "Startup Programs" under, "System Information" there is one heckuva bunch of programs listed if that has any bearing on my problem, I can maybe do a Copy and Paste of the list if needed?

Aug 11, 2006Instead of getting the graphical splash screen with the blue dots moving from left to right across the screen before the user login screen presents, I am able to select Linux and boot up properly there. Each OS is on its own hard disk. I had earlier saved off each MBR in case I ever had a problem with it. I have checked the MBR for the WinXP disk (i.e. the 0th (1st) sector) on the disk consisting of 512 bytes. It checked out OK with no binary differences, so I am confident that there is no problem with the WinXP MBR or the partitions in it. Obviously there is a problem after control is transferred from the WinXP MBR to bootup WinXP.My strategy now is going to be to run the bootcfg /rebuild command from the Recovery Console after checking out the boot list from the bootcfg command - if I can get that far with the Recovery Console.I do not seem to be able to get into Safe Mode or the Advanced Options screen selection by pressing on the F8 key. My boot.ini file was edited OK and had an extra line to boot into Safe Mode, but that does not work now.
So, my theory is that if all was working as before OK, I should be getting the selection to boot into Safe Mode vs normal bootup with the changes I made to the boot.ini file. Since I am not getting that and experiencing the problem as described above, I am assuming that something is out-of-kilter with the boot.ini file.Also, my last shutdown in the morning yesterday went Ok. What I was doing before I shutdown for lunch was shredding files - everything went OK with no apparent problems, but I wonder whether something went adrift without being noticed and corrupted some files on my system - notably, the boot.ini file - at least this is what I suspect.Anyone see a problem with what I have in mind to do or have a better idea how to fix this problem?
Os Choices On Bootup Screen
Jan 12, 2007I tried upgrading my os to vista then decided I wasn't going to but ever since then I have been having problems with windows xp. When I boot up, I am given an option of choosing windows xp, or windows xp setup. I then have 3 situations:
1.If I choose windows xp my computer runs normally.
2.If I choose xp setup nothing happens I get a blank black screen.
3.If I do nothing I get a black screen that has one message, at the top it says windows is missing <windows root>system32hal.dll..How can I set my computer back to its normal state?
16 Bit MS-DOS Subsystem Error On Bootup
