Barts PE Not Recognizing Hard Drives On Dell PC With SATA

Sep 2, 2005

Used to use Barts PE on a Windows XP system that had IDE drives. Created a new one since I was getting an error on my new Dell System with Windows XP PRO. Said it could not find a certain .in file. So I created a new Barts PE using a Windows XP Pro CD with SP1 and a blank CD to write the ISO image. After rebooting with Barts PE CD with ISO image, it looked fine and booted okay into Barts PE---BUT---it could not see my hard drives.

Oem - Pro / Need To Be A Licensed Builder

Apr 10, 2008

Just bought Windows (XP Pro) SP Pro OEM Software ($135. I bought it thinking I could install it in my just built desk top computer but after reading the info I wonder. Do I need to be a licensed builder?? Im not building it for someone else, just for me. Whats with the OPK. Can I just install it as a OS? I may have bought the wrong one but the comment in NewEgg from people who bought it gave me the impression it was for a single licensed user. I called Microsoft but they didn't know. The rep suggested I return it just in case it won't work. My fear is that when I go to OPK they will want a builders license which I don't have.

Computer Won't Let Me Download Programs That Require Active X?

Feb 17, 2007

Ever since I downloaded Windows Explorer 7 I have serious problems with ordinary functions, like double clicking on URLs or highlighted items. In hotmail it won't let me delete spam, but other clicks it allows me. Copying and pasting is also non-functional. I also use Firefox, so now I do almost everything on it.
Another problem is that my computer won't let me download programs that require Active X., not even its own Windows programs. How can I change that? I think that although I've always owned the computer, the pc doesn't recognize me as having administrative powers. That may because my computer repair guy tinkered with the controls.

Child In Internet Explorer Require Re-login

Feb 25, 2009

I am using Windows XP SP3 and Internet Explorer 7. When using web pages that open child windows, my online session to that site is closed after that child window is closed. Any subsequent navigation on the parent window takes me back to the sites login page. (Example: Login to my banking site, navigate to the statemetn page. The statement link opens a child window allowing me to view/print the statement. Upon closing the child/pop-up page, the parent page thinks that I have logged off and clicking on any subsequent link on the main page, I am required to login again.) Typically, if I keep the child page open and toggle over to the main page, I can navigate without issues. Hoping someone has solved this problem. I have disabled my firewall and virus checker with no success. Hoping there is an Internet Explorer setting or registry setting to solve this issue.

Screen Saver Setting Require Password Upon Resuming

Jun 30, 2005

I am running XP Pro, single user on my machine. My screen saver setting is to require a password upon resuming. Until a few days ago this was working fine, showing the Welcome screen. Then suddenly I am now (only upon screenaver resumption) getting the classic logon screen. The option setting in the screensaver settings window has changed and I am utterly unable to determine what changed it or how to return it to the original state.

My account settings are for Fast User Switching and to Show Welcome Screen. I am not part of a domain. In perusing some newsgroups I have found this question before, however nowhere an answer to the question how to fix it. I concluded that something I must have done (without me being aware of it) had changed this and consequently decided to use an XP test build on another machine to possibly pinpoint such an occurence through a phased approach. Much to my surprise I found the setting for a screensaver to 'upon resome, password protect' from the get-go, i.e. the very first time I logged on, so my attempt for analyis was proven unsuccessful in record time.....

System Builder Licensing Work?

Jul 11, 2009

How does windows system builder licensing work? I need to understand how it works before I decide to buy into it. Lets pretend i'm buying this Here are my questions: How many times am I allowed to install this on the same pc (same hardware)? Does it allow upgrading major parts within the PC without requiring a new license each time? Can I install it on multiple PC's without requiring a new license each time? I don't care much about MS support not being included, but is it still available if i chose to pay for it?
If I sold my PC I could sell the license with it (transferrable) is this true? Would I need to re-purchase a license when I build a new PC if I transferred it already.

Can Pro System Builder's Edition Be Reinstalled?

Nov 12, 2008

I'm building a new machine for a friend using WinXP Pro system builder's edition. It is my understanding that this edition can only be installed on a single machine - and even changing the hard drive or major hardware component will de-activate it. In the process of trying to fix a BIOS issue, the dang thing reset the SATA controller from the RAID 1 I had setup back to normal SATA. I finally got that fixed - but it somewhat hosed the Windows install - it wants to do diskcheck every time it boots and always find some errors - but if I bypass the diskcheck it boots fine - but there are other problems. if the system builders edition can be reinstalled on the exact same machine with the exact same hardware - or would I have to buy yet another copy?

System Builder Needs Good Remote Software?

I'm looking to install a remote connection on the systems i build. As i'm constantly having to walk people through basic tasks i would like to be able to just tell them to start a specific program then let me connect and do all the work. I have tried with windows own remote assistance but half of the time i can't even connect. I have over 150 sytems built and running, hence this software can't cost a lot. I want to install the server side on all these sytems then i can connect remotely from my Client side and carry out basic tasks... ie editing startup registry etc Anyone know of any good free software for this... i've looked at some software but to install on so many machines would cost a fortune.

Difference Between System Builder OEM And Direct Buyer OEM

Apr 21, 2008

I am trying to restore an HP PC that shipped with XP Home OEM. The restore disk is damaged and a few files in the i386 folder are unreadable. My ultimate goal is to reinstall XP home without purchasing another license because technically I still own the license, but the CD is damaged.

My question is. Is there a difference between the OEM version the HP used and the OEM version that I purchased with hardware? Is it possible to install my OEM version with the serial number on the PC?

I was also pondering trying to recreate the disk by replacing the damaged files in i386 folder with files from another version of home OEM using nlite.
