Background Screen Freeze After Reboot
Jan 21, 2007the wallpaper/background screen comes up and it just freezes there. when I reboot from there it's fine until the next time I start it up.

Screen Freeze - Video Playing Background
Sep 3, 2010sometimes when i watch vidoes on you tube if i don`t enlarge the screene it will play ok but when i do enlarge the screene it would go so far then the screen would freeze but you can hear the video playing in the background then i would have to go back and enlarge the screene again i could have to do this a number of times during the play it`s most annoying can anyone tell me what i can do to rectify the problem

This is a duplicate setup - i have two systems very nearly identical, both HP DC7600's, full-up 4GB RAM, 160GB HD, fairly fresh Windows XP Professional SP3, typical applications: MS Office, Picasa, iTunes, Realplayer, Google Chrome browser, blah blah. Nothing exotic.One of them, after being left with a half dozen tabs open in Chrome, and not much else going on other than AVAST Antivirus running in background, upon checking back in with the Screen Saver "On" [starfield], no password needed, the screen/display freezes on the background image, and nothing else pops up on screen except the mouse cursor.

Oct 11, 2006I can be doing anything, so not even be around the computer and it freezes, could freeze on the screen saver, or when im on hte internet, or playin a game, or writing an email anything.... not an overheating problem because it has happened say right after its done booting, or 5 mins after running or say 12 hours after being on.... or jsut not freeze seems to be really random

Mar 19, 2006My pc will not reboot it will go only so far and then nothing or it will freeze in the early part of the reboot and i have to then go and turn of the power at the wall which dose not do my hard drive any good or my pc and once i have cut power and only then will my pc boot up and go all the way through the start up process so can someone please help me thank you oh my operating system is xp home edition.

The basics: XP Professional Boot up screen, right before the windows loading screen, or direct after the F8 Menu if you hit "Start Windows Normally..." it will just lock up, no HDD activity, blank screen. now BSOD, nothing.
All 3 safe mods work fine.
Ran chkdsk /r in recovery.
Ran proper fixboot procedure.
Went into safe mode and checked the event viewer.
The only concerning message i got was: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AmdK8
Fips
nod32drv
Formatting really isnt an issue since i can back up anything i need through safe mode. However its just the fact that the Windows gremlin has struck me again and i must defeat it once more.
I highly doubt this is a hardware issue as it is more of a driver/software issue.any help?
Screen Freeze With Bootup From CD
Jun 21, 2009Hey, basicly my old Hard drive for some reason or another died. I got a second hand one off a friend which I beleive and he beleives to be allright. = Baracuda 7200 .6 160gb HDD IDE... Obviously when starting it gets stuck on Error loading OS.. So I restarted went into boot menu and placed CDDrive as no1 boot. Placed my XP disk in... it went through the stages: Press any key to boot.Setup is inspecting your computers hardware configuration now on the blue screen of "Press f6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver that passes by what should appear next is sposed to be a screen saying "press enter to install windows xp or R to repair," but that doesn't load up instead I am stuck with.

Oct 3, 2009I have a Dell Dimension 4600. I got a new 80gb hard drive and wanted to clone it with the current 20gb drive. I took both drives and connected them to a different pc that had norton ghost on it. After cloning, which went fine, I placed them back into the Dell with the 80 gig set as master, and the 20gb set as slave. The computer would post normally and boot to a black screen with a blinking cursor, this happned right after verifying dmi data pool. It would hang at this screen never getting to the windows loading screen.
I returned the 20gb to the master drive and set the 80gb as the slave. It booted fine. After getting into windows I saw it was reporting the 80gb as C: and the 20gb as D:. I changed the drive letter of the 80gb (in safe mode) to G:. After changing it the computer would freeze at the XP splash screen, however I still had control of the mouse. I believe this was caused from windows search for the page file on C: which no longer existed............
Screen Freezes Up Then Black Screen Upon Reboot Sometimes A Red Screen
Apr 5, 2010My computer screen freezes up after a while, then turns into a blank light blue screen and then into a black screen. I have used regcure, PCMedkit, and PC Doc Pro I have also tried some of the online help for a fee but nothing seem to work. Lately when trying to reboot I got a blank red screen. I'm using xp pro and a Nvida GeForce 9400GT GRAPHICS CARD.

Sep 13, 2008this problem for a while now and ive been trying everything i can think off. Basically when i start the computer up the windows login screen freezes. I have to press ctrl + alt + delete to get the login box to come up, and i can login that way. That's fine just a bit annoying . Secondly, When i look through my files in windows, even click a file on desktop or browse the internet, the taskbar and my desktop will freeze. I can move my mouse, but cant click anything, icons, start menu, right click - nothing. To get it back i bring up task manager and close it, then i can click the taskbar etc, i have no idea why that works i dont close explorer.exe or anything . I've ran anti-virus scans with avast and nod32 (i only have avast installed), anti-spyware scans with Spybot and superantispyware and nothing was found. I've disabled startup programs with msconfig, defragmented and updated video card drivers. but it still freezes. Specs are beside my forum name, and im using xp home.

Apr 22, 2006I have recently been given a processor by a friend who was having problems when trying to boot windows.It would get to the boot screen with the scrolling bar then freeze up. The friend said that when he booted in Linux he had no problems. I have a machine with a new MB and new memory in which I installed the processor.I booted from my Windows XP Pro Disk and did a full install.When finished the same thing happened, it would freeze when it got to the Windows screen with the scrolling bar.I do not know much about computers so assumed that if the processor was faulty the computer would not go through a windows install or work with Linux.

OS Randomly Lockup - Freeze Screen Saver
Jul 6, 2009This issue just started this weekend. I am the tech guy in the house (programmer / web dev so naturally im a great troubleshooter right?). My dad's PC just developed a most irritating issue. It will seemingly randomly freeze. When he told me of the issue he said that 9 times out of 10 it locked when running the web browser. I had him update to firefox 3.5 and IE8 and get any windows updates he can. Problem seemed to go away for a few hours but it came back. Most recently it has frozen at the screensaver which I then disabled and set the screen to turn off after 10m. Thinking that there might be an issue with the video driver I updated those as well to 186.11 (i think). Haven't had an issue since that I am aware of, but I doubt that the issue was with the screensaver

Dec 1, 2006I booted up my computer 3 days ago and logged in under my user name, and there were no desktop icons or taskbar, so I restarted my computer and tried every user, still nothing. I went to msconfig to restore it to a earlier point, and when it restarted I went to my user name, and still nothing so I went to msconfig again and booted it up in safe mode, when it restarted, right before the user names screen came up, a black screen with "SAFE MODE" in all four corners pops up for about 3 or 4 seconds, then the user name screen comes up with the ADMIN and the rest of the user names, it doesn't matter what name I log in as it always goes to the same black Safe Mode screen as before but it will freeze there forever. So I had to manually shut it down. When it restarted I hit F8 to get it out of safe mode and chose restart computer normally, then when it restarts the same exact thing thing happens. I've tried every option at the F8 selection screen. So I put in a cd with Mepis Linux on it that my cousin gave me, but I didn't install it I have been running it off the disk. And I have no clue what to do next.

May 23, 2010I'm using Windows XP SP2 on this computer, and last night the computer froze while waking up (I don't "shut down" every time, i hibernate the system). I restarted and windows froze again on the startup screen. I restarted in safe mode and ran a disk check (scheduled it for next restart). The system booted up after the disk check completed (it said it found and fixed errors). However, it was dead slow,. I have avira antivir personal(updated with the latest definitions), I ran a full system scan, and it found nothing but a "hidden object". Here's the report:-

Dec 7, 2004Through out the day, I have my computer on. Many times... whether I am using the computer at that moment, or if I leave and come back later... my screen will be frozen. The mouse moves, but nothing on the screen can be clicked. Also, control alt delete works as well, so I have found that if I go into the applications tab and open a new task and open/refresh "explorer" everything will start working again.

While i have been playing a game my screen would freeze and black out, or just suddently black out.so i would have to shut it off through the back switch. this was happening for about a week. This problem happened again last night only this time it wont let me boot back into windows. it will boot up to the windows logo loading screen and restart, after this restart it will tell me windows did not boot properly and ask to continue with safe mode with networking, and console.(still rebooted with all choices) and windows normaly (rebooted) and windows with last safest configuration (still rebooted). occasionaly it will get to scandisk, after the scandisk it will lock up or reboot, if it gets passed scandisk without rebooting it gives me a blue screen

Feb 8, 2006I have the problem with the bsod error (0x00000007F or something). I can't get the other specific details because I can't catch the numbers fast enough before my comp restarts. I even checked off the automatic restart button too! Usually, the system crashes randomly, when I have alot of programs on, or when im playing counter strike in particu I almost forget, it started just recently when my comp suddenly froze (except the mouse). So I restarted it but my system wouldnt boot past the logo screen. I've did almost everything people suggested but I just gave up and decided to start up new. Bad idea. So now I got everything installed. I am almost sure that it has nothing to do with software because it worked with the same things before (Even though my audio driver didnt pass the XP certification thing, which is odd).

Oct 28, 2009I have a gateway laptop. about 6 months ago i was listening to music through my itunes and the songs starting skipping and the comp froze. I tried to do ctrl alt delte and couldnt so i had to shutdown by just holding the power button. The computer was also really hot when this happened. Since then I have not been able to get the computer to work. It will start about and give me the option of how i would like to start (in safe mode or regular) and no matter which option i pick it will go to the loading screen for windows xp and just sit there with the progress bar going for hours or until the comptuer dies. It never gets past this point or gives me any kind of errors.
