This issue just started this weekend. I am the tech guy in the house (programmer / web dev so naturally im a great troubleshooter right?). My dad's PC just developed a most irritating issue. It will seemingly randomly freeze. When he told me of the issue he said that 9 times out of 10 it locked when running the web browser. I had him update to firefox 3.5 and IE8 and get any windows updates he can. Problem seemed to go away for a few hours but it came back. Most recently it has frozen at the screensaver which I then disabled and set the screen to turn off after 10m. Thinking that there might be an issue with the video driver I updated those as well to 186.11 (i think). Haven't had an issue since that I am aware of, but I doubt that the issue was with the screensaver
My XP desktop locks up/freezes randomly. Everything is still on the screen. Looks normal, fans run in the PC, but is it frozen. I have to shut it off and restart. Then it works fine until it randomly locks up. It sometimes gives the blue screen if im in middle of using it but most times it will just lock up. Other times it will reboot itself. Started happening a few weeks back but seems to have gotten progressively worse. I used to last for a few hours but now it can happen seconds after I log in ...other times it will let me use for 15-20 mins.
I can be doing anything, so not even be around the computer and it freezes, could freeze on the screen saver, or when im on hte internet, or playin a game, or writing an email anything.... not an overheating problem because it has happened say right after its done booting, or 5 mins after running or say 12 hours after being on.... or jsut not freeze seems to be really random
I'm not exactly sure what is causing this issue so I don't exactly know where to put it. If one of the staff here has a better suggestion and can move it there I would be greatly appreciative. Now on to my problem.I have a computer here that randomly seems to lock up. What I mean by that is, you can be typing an e-mail and the words stop displaying, a few seconds later the screen will flash and your text will start filling in (it isn't suddenly there, you can actually watch it fill in the letters). Nothing moves on the screen at all until the flash. The machine itself is a fairly robust machine (Dell Precision WorkStation T3400 with E7300, 2.66, 3MB Wolfdale Processor, 2 GB of RAM, and a NVIDIA Quadro NVS290 graphics card
I'm using Windows XP and latley my computer will randomly freeze, forcing me to restart it. It's frozen during games, launching games, browsing the net, and even while restarting itself. I've been lucky that I'm able to post this message without it freezing. I thought that maybe it was over heating but, I've had it for a year and I don't see why that would change now.
I recently bought a new computer with a 512 MB graphic card. My old computer had a 128 MB card but at the beginning, I only had 8 MB. I was using a screen saver with fish in an aquarium. With only my 8 MB card, the animation was really impressive. I tried my screen saver yesterday with my new 512 MB card and the picture was terrible. There were plenty of horizontal lines on the screen. What could explain this? Could it be that the program wasn't intented for this type of card? In those days, big cards like mine didn't exist. There might be a new update to this screen saver.
What it did here was change the background and set the screensaver to the sysinternals bluescreen screensaver (which you may be seeing) while at the same time setting policies in the registry to disable the two aforementioned tabs in the Display properties window
We have several users that log into virtual machines from their home. We have one group in particular that has a user complaining that they are being logged off of remote desktop rather frequently. I checked their VM and the screen saver wasnt set to go off for over 2 hours and they are complaining that they are getting logged off after 30min. Is there a setting that can adjust how long before a remote desktop session will last before the person has to give the log in credentials again?
My company added an automatic screen saver and CTRL-ALT-DEL and then password to get back in. I can't turn it off. For some reason the option is grayed out when i log in as an administrator and then go to user accounts.
This is one i've never run into before. I can't get the screensaver to work. I have tried several screensavers, including the ones that came with the computer. I can change the desktop o.k. I have tried several different wait settings
Got my wife a new E-machine (i realize it is a cheaper computer but good enough for us) anyway, when it goes into the screen saver mode just a black screen if it hasn't been in screen saver very long you can just touch the mouse like you do with any other computer and it comes back on, however, if it goes into sleep mode and you leave it for say 15 or 20 min it is kind of random times it will not come back on by touching the mouse or clicking the spacebar button you have to push in the power button on the tower (just push it in and let it right back out) and then the desktop comes back up , it comes out of sleep mode. My question is ---what can I do to make it like other computers and just be able to touch the mouse no matter how much time it has been in sleep mode to get it to come back on.
I'm having a problem with the screen saver not working on my IBM T21 WinXP SP2 No matter where I set the settings it will never kick in. It works when you test it but not otherwise. The monitor power settings are also not working. Any suggestions? I'm out of ideas.
My problem is that once the screen saver has been in use, on moving the mouse to resume Windows the screen goes black. Sometimes if the monitor automatically switches itself off the same effect is seen once the mouse is moved. At this point the LED status indicator flashes and activity on the hard disk but there can be 5 minutes or more before the display operates. Frequently the display will not operate and the only option is to restart the PC. The power management settings are for always on and the monitor is set for always on. There is no password requirement to resume from screen saver to Windows. I have checked the drivers for the monitor and they are current.
When I turn on the computer I get the screen saver but no icons and no startup menu. Nothing happens if I right click on the desktop. I can get into some areas with task manager. However when I opened C: there is no control panel. I ran some spyware and did get rid of some infected files. I tried to download from the operating disk but nothing has helped.
My computer is running Win XP pro. It freezes when it goes to screen saver mode after few minutes and the cursor does not move. I need to reboot the computer to make work. Any help for this problem
Im looking for a good screensaver for win xp that doesnt have any advertisements or any of that other junk. What all do you use? Does Microsoft Plus offer that underwater reef screensavers that you see in display in stores?
I started this thread many weeks ago and was being helped but had hardware problems and commitments and I have to start again.I have up to date XP2 in a clean system. The problem - unimportant but annoying, is that my screensaver, whichever I use, unpredictably resets to one minute no matter what delay time I set. When it does this the screensaver does not run. I admit to sloppy attention to detail - I can't remember when this started but it was probably more than a year ago. A quick fix would be nice but now I have a bit of time to experiment.
I have been using the same screen saver and monitor power saver settings in display for several years and now they don't work, screen just stays on all the time. Has anyone had this problem and know how to repair.
I have been having problems ever since my daughter did something to my computer. But of course she wont admit to it when my screen saver came on, it would actually go to my log off screen, I shut down for the night and turn my laptop on, like this am, it goes to the log-off screen and I have to click on my user to pull up my desk top where as before it automatically took me to my desk-top. When in that log off screen, I noticed that the name I gave my computer is no longer there either, it just says " Click to shut down"
I was looking for a United Methodist Church logo that is commonly used and went on one of the UMC websites to see if I could copy it to my computer for purposes of incorporating it into graphic artwork for some t-shirts that my client wanted us to print for them. I found the logo and clicked on the outside of it and dragged my cursor over the image until it became "transparant blue" and sent it to my computer. I thought it was going to my artwork file, but instead it went to my desktop. The problem is that it is now permanently on my desktop.I cannot highlight it, encompass it in a box or move it at all. This image is not from the screen saver program. It's not an icon. You can't even click on it and move it around on the desktop. It doesn't respond to any right clocks or left clicks at all. It is permanently rooted in this one spot on my desktop screen.
How to set up my screensaver so that it scrolls thru all my pictures in "my pictures" folder. I've done so, but there's quite a delay between pictures, it doesn't seem like it's showing pictures from the whole folder, sometimes the pictures are very small off to one corner, and in-between pictures the screen is blank for a bit and usually has a symbol on it such as a musical note, "exit", a figure running, etc. My friend seems to have hers set up the same way, but it doesn't have these problems. It just scrolls thru her pictures, one after the other, with the pictures taking up the whole screen.
Just got this Gateway GT5238E core 2 duo 1.86 CPU/ 1gb ram/ 250gb hdd running Windows XP and the screen saver will not start.I think it is because the CPU is always doing between 2 and 6% cycling between Explorer/ Remote UI service and a few others with a total of 59 or 60 processes on my task manager all the time.My other machine running XP home has only 37 processes. There are many Intel services running that must be necessary because of this core 2 duo processor I am guessing.I searched through these forums for a similar situation but nothing quite like this problem was found Does anyone have any ideas on how I might stop this constant CPU activity or some other way to get my screen saver working.
