Any Way Of Setting Which Of 2 Screens A Program Will Open Into?

Dec 5, 2008

I use several different programs simultaneously, some of which web-based and open within Internet Explorer. So that I can work more efficiently, I want some programs to open in the first screen and some in the second. Is there a utility that exists that looks at the title of the window being opened, and opens it in the user-defined screen? So, if I want outlook to open in the second screen, the program would see "Microsoft Office Outlook" in the window title, and then send it to the second screen when I open Outlook?

Program Screens Autoscrolling

Nov 1, 2006

This is a great forum and has been a great resource. Now, I need to ask for some help. (I hope this is the right forum. Didn't seem like a hardware issue and doesn't seem software-specific.)Ive searched on Techguy, several other forums, and Googled to find a fix to the problem, without any luck. Gateway Tech support did not have any ideas, other than doing a full system re-install, which I would like to avoid. Heres the lowdown: Program screens will begin to autoscroll a few minutes after being open. Its not really a smooth scroll. Kind of jerky and a constant up-down, up-down. Sometimes a full screen, sometimes only several lines at a time. If I put the mouse pointer on a frame or a toolbar of the window, the scrolling stops. If I move the cursor to the screen within the frame to click a link, edit text, or open an email, the autoscrolling starts. It does not happen if the open application only has one screen of data and it does not happen on the desktop. It happens in Outlook, Firefox, IE6, Word, and Excel. I have not noticed it in Kasperskey, Skype, or Spysweeper. I did not notice the problem when I booted into Safe Mode to re-install drivers (but I may not have been in the screens long enough for the problem to start).

The problem began on Sunday when I was in a Citrix Metaframe session (provided by my employer). The open applications in the Metraframe window began doing this autoscroll. I logged off, rebooted and tried logging back on. Citrix wouldnt allow me to log on, and I began having the scrolling problem with programs on my PC. Our IT dept. says there is nothing wrong with Citrix and no one else had this problem. What Ive done: Re-installed updated video drivers; re-installed MS Office; tried several system restore points; run: Kasperskey, Spysweeper, HJT, Ewido, Spybot, Adaware, and Symantec online all came back clean; tried different electrical outlets; unplugged everything else on the circuit; checked the USB plugs for the keyboard/mouse; checked for latest mouse/keyboard drivers; tried changing the monitor refresh rate.

Several .dll Errors In IE And Mozilla, Several Blue Screens, And Many Program Crashes

Mar 25, 2005

Ever since I'd built my computer, I have been getting errors in internet explorer. These would pop up at completely random intervals (although it seemed to be more often when I loaded intensive pages). They would take the guise of problems that are all attributed to many things. mshtml.dll, ntdll.dll, wininet.dll, and a few other .dll files have been the error causing agents in the "more info" on the error popup. I have also had many blue screen errors such as bad pool caller, irql not less or equal, and page fault in_nonpaged area, to name a few
When I started getting these errors, I tried to look them up, but I found several different reasons for errors. Many errors had different problems such as various installed components, leading my to believe that it was a RAM error. I bought a PNY stick at BB and swapped it. Still got the errors. I then returned the PNY stick and bought an ULTRA X-Connect PSU. I tested it again, and I still got the same errors. Then, a new devvelopment occurred. I tried doing a repair install, but it errored halfway through, saying that a certain file could not be copied

Running Windows XP / Occasional Freezes Blue Screens / Without Any Apparent Pattern In Program Or Usage

Jan 7, 2009

I would really appreciate some advice concerning a troublesome computer.A friend who was running Windows XP on a two-years old computer began to experience occasional freezes and blue screens without any apparent pattern in program or usage. It eventually got so bad that we removed most of his installed software other than the essential, but problems continued. We then made a repair installation of Windows XP from the Dell OS installation disk, after which the computer would fall over every time after initial boot up. With sinking heart (of course, he had no image, but had data backups) we then formatted the hard disk and executed a fresh installation of Windows XP.

Windows now boots but the Windows directories contain very few folders or files. The CD drive can only be read perhaps 50% of the time. Most program installation files refuse to run, but some do. One installation disk which will not run is his internet installation. The computer continues to display sporadic blue screens. Before it goes out the window can anyone suggest our next course of enquiry?

How To Setting Default Email Program

May 10, 2005

I have a problem with setting OE6 as my default email program in IE after I installed Office 97. Since I really wanted to use OE6, I uninstalled Outlook. Now my OE6 works okay with my dial-up internet access. No problems with sending and receiving emails, but I cannot set it to be the default email handler using the Tool->Options popup window. And I also found that in IE, Tools-> Internet Options popup -> Programs tab, there is no choices for the Email field. This problem has caused me to be unable to click on email addresses of people on the webpages and other problems with 3rd party softwares.

Cannot Open Program Files

Sep 24, 2009

I picked up some crappy malware called ?Windows Police? last night while I was surfing for player info for my fantasy football league. I immediately ran a scan using AVG, but in my impatience and worry over getting this infection I googled for information and found instructions at this web site. So I mistakenly tried to follow them. Unfortunately I must have made an error in there somewhere because now I?m having problems opening program files. AVG scrubbed the virus but now I cannot open program files. Either the program cannot be found or I get the ?Open With? pop up menu. I?ve tried to run the WMI diagnostic but can?t get that to work either. Is this fixable?

I've already tried selecting Choose Program and navigating to excel.exe. That does not add it. Other users have the option. These text files are already formatted in a way that will open in Excel with everything in columns without going through the wizard. I don't have any problems editing the registry if that is required as long as I have detailed instructions.

Cannot Open Any Program On Computer

Mar 14, 2010

I'm having a problem opening almost any program on my computer after a crash during shutdown (just after a Windows update). When I double-click the icon it looks as if it is loading and nothing ever opens. If I look in task manager ,however, firefox.exe or whatever program I tried running is running, but using 50% the CPU resources and a window never opens. Chkdsk ran after the crash and I tried sfc /scannow and it did get ie8 to open up, but it freezes with 50% of the CPU usage, according to task manager, and still does not allow browsing. Even after uninstalling and re-installing Firefox I still can't get it to open.I tried the following experiment Open Firefox, then IE8, each use 50% of CPU resources, but neither allows browsing (Firefox does not even open a window).
