Everytimes I open any files, I find that all blue word including system & all dll files are blue in color. I try to restore to previous but is still the same. Secondly my DVD-rw sometimes can read & sometimes just read but nothing come out.
View 1 RepliesI'm using Win XP and, using the built in Zip feature,have zipped up 14 files that include one .exe file and one .bas file.When I try to Extract All files it extracts all except these two files.It says that the files have been blocked to protect the computer, then I can click on a link to find out how to unblock the files but the instructions to do so don't make sense.The instructions tell you to save the file, then right click/properties/unblock, but I can't see how you can save a file if it hasn't been unzipped.How can I stop the .exe and .bas files from being blocked

Question: just wondering, why is there free space between the (blue) contiguous files ? shouldn't all the blue be compacted together on the left?
I seem to have run out of room on a Windows XP Pro system. I tried to defrag but don't have but 7% room available. I looked in Windows Explorer to try to find some huge files that might be corrupt and I see a few that are listed in blue.I have not compressed anything on purpose.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI frequently get a blue screen when using my computer, often when playing a high memory game (specifically WoW) and running other programs such as ventrilo. Occasionally, it says kernal memory dump...etc. But usually its just a blank blue screen. When I load windows, pressing delete does not enter me into setup mode, and my windows CD will not load up on restart either. I tried to uninstall my hard drive driver, and it worked, and it seems to have reloaded on restart I thought it might be corrupt but now whenever I go into device manager, it asks me if I want to restart to enable these changes, even though I havent changed everything.

partition into three logical partitons, whose volume labels are now highlighted in blue in My Computer. The same happens to all files and folders that are now stored in these logical partitions.
over the last 2 days i have gotten the BSoD and the error that comes up is that NV4_DISP is the cause of it every time. i looked it up and that is in my nvidia files. All my windows are updated, as is my direct X, nvidia drivers. i scaned for virus, spywear, anything i could think of.No errors come up anywhere, no virus, no spywear, according to my machine everything is running right. So my quesiton is, why the BSoD and if it keeps coming up in my video card, does that mean its dying ?

I first noticed this increased used space when I wanted to defragment the hard drive and noticed that there was only 45% free space available (there is usually 75%).I have viewed the properties of all the folders on the C: drive and they do not add up to the 20GB shown on the C: drive properties...The defragment report states that "some files in the volume could not be defragmented"
My system totally crashed. I reformatted the drive and reinstall XP. Well, everything seems to be going along just fine until I get to 70% finished with copying installation files and I get message after message saying that the files cannot be copied.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe registry on one of my computers is corrupt and if I try to copy the files from the WindowsRepair folder using the windows system repair tool, I'm told the files cannot be found. One possible solution I thought of is using the registry files from my other computer running Windows XP. I don't even know if this is possible, but if it is, how can I transfer the files. I would put them on a CD but the CD drive won't open when the system repair tool is running, and they're too big to fit on a floppy disk, even one at a time (the system and software files are both over 2mb.)

So I assumed it might be the power supply so I went and bought a new one from stamples. He turned on for maybe 5 seconds then turned off. so I took it back thinking maybe I didn't have enough watts. The higher watts didn't doanything. I am lost without my computer can anyone help? I have Win XP..Could it be the fan? Even though the fan worked when i plugged in first PS...Second didnt do anything. Could it be something to do with motherboard?
View 8 Replies View RelatedSometime over the past couple of weeks, I started having a number of files on my C:/ drive which would not open. I wrote another forum and got some advice, and did some studying, and for some I was able to take back permissions and found what looked like a phony user account hidden way down in Documents and Settings.
Today I found close to 2/3 of my files would not display, of the types, htm and html, jpg, png, and doc files. I went to check permissions and the security tab was not under Properties.
I have tried everything: I have re-installed Windows, I have run every virus and adware and spyware scan and repair known, and have constantly cleaned the registry and used HiJack this which did show two programs called Voodoo and Banshee which were not mine.
Last night I noticed 2 files remaining after deleting my temp files. When I try to delete them, a warning box appears saying that another person or program is using these files. Task manager says no other program is running and I do not see any suspicious processes running. The only recent changes I have made was to schedule a daily backup via NTBACKUP and a daily rename & compression of the backup files via a batch file with Task Scheduler. Does task scheduler leave .tmp files in place I don't want to delete the .tmp files if they are indeed needed by something important

I was running AVG anti virus. Now I removed AVG and installed Microsoft supplied security essential software. It detected following virus ware and removed subsequently I want to recover deleted .pst and thunderbird mails.

I'm 55 so I guess I forgot how to download them as individual songs and not have them arbitrarily placed in folders predetermined by Windows. I remember a musicmatch and/or real networks technician told me once how to change my settings so they are captured as individual songs. Probably a simple answer, but I don't remember it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have always enjoyed labeling and organizing my files, But as of a little while back i am not able to organize my mp3s or any type of file for that matter in a proper fashion because the options of the author the title and everything else you are allowed to label are not present. I used too use this to organize all my music and video files in a folder but now none of these options appear for me. When i click properties and heat to summary for any file It never gives me the options for these files there just not there. So when i try to organize lets say the folder by Artist or Album title or year or track number i cant because there is no category for it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I was uninstalling Kaspersky, at the end of the uninstallation, it asked me if I wanted to save the NTFS files, IF i were to use Kaspersky in the future. I figured I wouldn't use the antivirus in the future anyways. So, I just uninstalled the NTFS files, and in the end, this window popped up saying that the NTFS files were replaced by unrecognizable files. Another windows popped up saying to insert the Windows XP Pro CD, to replace those unrecognizable files.Nothing is going wrong with the PC as of now, but I am just a little worried about what this might mean.
