When I upgraded my system from Windows 98SE to WindowsXP I found that my .wps files open up but the text of the body are just jibberish. Windows XP asks me to open it up using other programs but none work. The text in the body of my documents is just jibberish but the title is ok. How does one go about getting the proper text back?
Anyone who's ever been on newsgroups knows that there is a lot of spam. Outlook express doesn't allow you to filter newsgroup messages by words in the body of the message, so you often have to grin and bear it.If you don't know what I'm talking about then chances are that you don't need this filter. But people who use Usenet have been complaining for ages that Outlook Express doesn't have this capability. There are spammers who change their name 20 times a day and the normal Outlook Express filters are ineffective against that.Anyway, here's the solution. You have to be comfortable playing around in your Windows registry. First, (outlook express), create a normal newsgroup rule, and tell it to filter outany messages with "XYZ" (or whatever) in the subject line, andremember what you called the filter, because you'll need to know that name later.Be sure to specify the newsgroup you wish to apply this rule to, as this is the only thing you won't be able to change after.
Then go into your registry and find that new filter, which will be inHKCU/identities/<your identity>/software/microsoft/Outlookexpress/5.0/rules/news.Once you're there you'll see a bunch of numbered folders, and if you clickon each of them once you can find the one that has the "Name" value that youassigned to the rule you created.Open up that folder, then open up the Criteria folder that's inside that. Now, inside the Criteria folder will be one or two folders labelled 000 and 001.If there is only one (000),left-click it once.If there are two (000) and (001),select the one with the higher number (001).Double click on the word "type" in the right pane, and change the value datasetting to 9.Restart your computer, and you have just created an outlook filter that youcan use to filter out newsgroup messages that have certain words within the body ofthe message, like "buy now", or whatever.
I am on Windows XP and have the Explorer 6.0. When I am on the internet, my cursor is selective as to where it will allow me to type. For instance I can type here just fine in both the Subject line and the message body. However when I am using email, Yahoo or Juno, I can type in the address and subject lines but it will not let me type in the message body.
I did a scan with windows defender found nth anybody knows why my personal computer is running slower and slower recently and its starting to have some errors.
On my windows xp pro machine in the winnt directory, I see about 20 or more KBnnnnnn.txt files (ie kb86783, kb873333, kb86185). They appear to be some kind of log file but I have not clue. Can they be deleted? Anyone know what they are?
I do have a problem with this laptop in that the first time I turn it on, it freezes at the windows splash screen and I have to turn it off and on again before it boots. This used to happen only when I used the modem, but now it's daily.
I'm attaching one of the files so you can see if it makes any sense.
Now that I look more at this directory, there are a bunch of Q files too. Can these be deleted? I'm attaching one of these too.
I have a Batch File that deletes some text files in some applications. These empty text files are remade when the application is started. This slows the application startup. I would like to have the empty text files remade by the batch file during bootup. Is this possible.
I had Windows XP Pro SP2 installed, and then i did the huuuge mistake to install Vista Ultimate. Got annoyed and reinstalled XP Pro SP3.I backed up my files before goin back to XP on an external HD. And when I copied back the files to the pc I saw, to my horror, that everything looked ok. But when I try to open text documents, it's just garbled text. Looks like this.Every single document looks like that, rtf files, txt files, word documents and so on. And I've tried to open them and converting to different codings in word and so on (UTF, ANSII and what not). Nothing works. And then I saw, when I was gonna import my bookmarks in Firefox that I saved before I went back to XP from Vista, that those html files also are full of garbled text
I looked around on google, and can't find anything about it I would greatly appreciate some help. Every single text document, which is quite a few, is messed up. And some of them, I didnt even open in Vista.. So don't know if it's because of Vista or if its something else.
i would like to know if there's a good place to learn about makingbatch file because i don't know about the syntax. I only program in c,delphi and Java. What i would like to know is if it's possible to do a "while", "if"(Conditions) and "read/write" text files so i can do a several testlike ping few computer in my buisness and be sure that they are wellconnected by creating a file that after it read the name of the computer it will ping and it pings it, write a file with the name of this computer with a "ok" next to it if it worked and "Not connected" if it can't ping it!
Has there been a new Windows update that locks the text and document files from people in other accounts from opening them? When I place a text or document file from my account into any other account, they cannot open them as they used to be able to. The last file that I can open between accounts was created on 11/29/2006.This is not just limited to Microsoft Word for Windows, but for files made in Excel, WordPad, and NotePad txt files as well. I think it should be easy to check, for it's probably a recent Windows Update, but the trouble is that I recently had to format my hard drive and start over, so I don't know which of the 200 or so it is that I had to download. I am hoping that all I need to do is to uninstall it.If this was an Windows Update, then I need to uninstall it because I need to be able to send people files and have them be able to read them. The exact error message for a document created in Word is: "Word cannot open the document: User does not have access privileges (C:...MyDocuments(name of file).doc)".I am running Windows XP Professional on a home made computer with 1024 MB RAM, and an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor.
I want to know if there is possible to put a specific text over the desktop and when the user change the wallpaper the text continues appearing at the same position (basically I want to do it on Windows XP).People says that an image worth more than thousands of words... Ok this is a screenshot of what I want to do
When I open my documents, it assigns all my text files to open in Word Pad. I would like it to open assinging all my files as Microsoft Word files. How can I change this?
I have been able to write text files to my CD-RW until recently which may be after I received and automatic update from XP. I am using the MS CD Writer, I receive the error "There is no disc in the drive" when selecting properties is shows that the Discs have no free space, these are all brand new out of the package discs. I had this problem previously immediately after I upgraded to XP SP2, MS provided an executable that I ran and corrected the problem.
Running Windows XP SP2 on a Dell Dimension. And for instance, when you go to the Set Program Access and Defaults, on the left I have the icons, but I don't have the text below. There aren't any words underneath the icons. Also, Certain web pages only partially come up. For example the text will show but only half of the pictures or ads will show.
I can't get to "search" or "run." I changed the icon size to "small" in the properties>start menu>customize, but that isn't helping at all. In my other accounts the start menu text is fine.
I am having difficulty with text diplaying in bizarre fashion. The machine is a Dell Optiplex tower operating Windows XP Pro. When I am in an application or browsing web pages and choose one of the dropdown boxes, the box drops down and shows the outside lines of the box. Then when you swipe your cursor over the dropdown it will display the text that is invisible. All that I have to do to show the text is pass the cursor over the area. If I do not swipe the are with the cursor the text will be there, I assume, but never display.Has anyone encountered this issue before.
I have done a search but cant find anything about my problem. Problem= The text under my desktop icons are a bit difficult for me to read, and i use a clear wallpaper.I would like to change the text color to black.I did try and try again, ended up a disaster, had to reinstall an older backup.Windows XP SP2.

HP psc 2410 photosmart all-in-one printer. Whats happening is it's not printing the text of documents but if i insert a picture it will print that with no problems, even printing from the internet it will only print pictures. I scanned something that was only words and it printed that. I thought maybe it was the black ink cartrige so i put a new one in and it still isn't printing. If i put the words in a different colour it will print them just not in black.
Just click on rename and type alt + 0160 (on the numeric keypad) it will make a invisible character. This will only work if you have the file extensions hidden. You can use this only for one icon of each type (shortcut, folder, exe, txt, jpg or whatever you have on your desktop)For the second icon type: alt+0160 alt+0160For the third type: alt+0160 alt+0160 alt+0160.
I am just recently having problems when I am on a webpage trying to highlight some text and then copy it somewhere else.My problem is: sometimes after placing my cursor near the text I am trying to highlight and then copy. it will not highlight at all. Or either it does highlight a bit then stops and will not continue to highlight the text so I am able to copy it.How can I fix this problem. I have never had this problem til just a couple of weeks ago.
I can copy pictures, links etc. but when I go to paste them, the paste option is not highlighted so I am not able to use this. What do I do to fix this? For example, I can highlight the link above, right click and select copy. When I want to paste it, the paste option is not highlighted, I am not able to use paste. This is same for all text and pictures.
This question is regarding a hp deskjet 3650 printer. When I installed the driver for the printer, I'm getting some of the property pages with garbled text.
When using Paint and I go to save an image I get the attached message. It's not an error, but the normal text is replace by squares. I've tried to uninstall paint then reinstall it through add/remove but it did not change anything. My scans show no viruses or spyware either.
The machine: Compaq Pressario SR1103 Window XP Home, 256 MB PC2700, ASUS CDRW, NAV.I ran Microsoft Antispyware Beta 1. Found and removed eZula.WebOffer, eZula.TodText, Target Saver Trojan Downloader, SearchForIt.Adshooter, and Hotbar Shopping Reports. After rebooting, all the text in Windows is gibberish, (Symbols). Will a system recovery, using the recovery disk fix the problem, Are there other possible fixes? The system has a D: partition, which apparently contains the Recovery Console. It's an option at the boot screen. Is it possible to repair this particular problem from the Recovery Console, or is the Repair install my only option
After updating my version of iTunes this afternoon I was of course prompted to restart my laptop (an HP Pavilion dv6000), which I did. However upon start-up I noticed a variety of Windows menu texts to be completely missing - that is, the dialogue boxes and other such usually-text-containing shapes came out (albeit somewhat abnormally usually, often shortened to a few pixels) with no text in it at all. Internet pages themselves show up just fine, but any other text associated with internet explorer itself (i.e. tab and toolbar titles, dropdown menus like 'Page', etc.) is text-blank (icons still remain though, which helps a little)
