View 6 RepliesHave an XP box with a shared printer on it. Have setup to allow, network, everyone, anonymous, guest, etc. Anything to let the people print to it without a password. However to do so, all need to connect to the \ipshare first, enter id and password (and admin acct o n the XP box). Then it prints, until they log off then it repeats. I do not want any prompt for a password. With the old NT 4 system there it worked fine. No password. New system and new printer was put in place. Permissions seem right and like I said I tried adding everything to have ti connect without a password. And the last thing I wan tto do is add every single user to that box as an account.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have this problem and i really don't know what to do....it always happens except when i am playing some games in full screen...A Problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, follow these steps. Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

I am trying to upgrade the RAM memory on my Gateway MX3230 notebook. It presently has 256 MB and I would like to upgrade to 1 GB. I have checked the Gateway website and and upgrade to 1 GB is acceptable. I purchased a memory module from Kingston which was listed as being compatible with my laptop. When I tried installing the module, the computer will not start, nothing but black screen. It's as thought there is no memory at all. I tried re-installing the module making sure it was inserted in as far as it will go, still no luck. There is no settings in bios that I can see that would prevent the acceptance of this module

I am using Intel pentium 4 cpu 2.40GHz, 1.25 GB RAM. Iam using 80 GB samsung hard disk.
I installed Microsoft Windows XP Professional service pack 2 on a drive of 10 GB memory space with NTFS file system.
After the installation of Win XP, the drive properties shows 4.9 GB of used memory and only 4.45 GB of free memory, but when I try to find total memory occupied for all the files in that drive (using "select-all" and properties) the used memory is only 2.3 GB only.
Now I don't understand the huge difference of this memories calculations. Where that extra used memory gone, when the total memory occupied by all the files is much less.
why my Windowx XP sees only 1024 MB memory while I've increased the original memory of 512 MB by 2x 512 MB ?My motherboard has three DDR-slots. It had from the beginning a Kingston K 512MB PC2700 module in slot #1. This week I've added two Kingston K512 UDIMM 512MB PC2700 modules in the slots #2 and #3.All three modules has the type name KVR333X64C25/512, so I thought they would be compatible.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two computers, "This" and "That" networked via a Linksys cable router, both running XP Pro. Using Acronis True Image I backed up the C: drive of "This" to the shared documents of "That" computer. I wanted to back up directly to Backup (F) of "That" computer because it's a shared drive (partition). True Image kept disallowing it so in the end I sent the file to the shared documents folder. Now, I can't send the file to anywhere else on "That" computer. The error window is headed "Error copying file or folder". The actual message says:Cannot copy filename: there is not enough free disk space. Delete one or more files to free disk space, and then try again. To free space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click Disk Cleanup.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure what settings I need to tweak, but I'm sure someone here as experienced this and might know. I have a desktop and a laptop, both running XP (desktop XP Home SP2, laptop XP Media Center SP2). Both systems are running ZoneAlarm firewall and both are current and set up properly for my network and for file sharing. I have file sharing/print sharing set up, and have no problems sharing files both ways...except... On both systems, I have "My Documents" shared, with both boxes check to "Share this folder on the network" and "Allow network users to change my files".
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis problem started up after the last format of my computer. I have the usual folders shared on my computer which consists of my shared docs, music, DOD/CS:S maps and games. During LAN parties (or any other time) nobody can get files off my computer. They are shared just fine, they can see the files, but when we try to transfer it says "Cannot copy *filename* - access is denied. make sure the disk is not full or right protected and that the file is not currently in use." The file transfer bar will go like it is transferring, but when it is done I get that message. It doesn't make sense. I have these two boxes checked under "sharing" in folder properties: "share this folder on the network" and "allow network users to change my files." All firewalls are off. This happens over 4 different routers. I have reconfigured the network many times.
The only thing I can think of that may have caused it is that I deleted the microsoft .net asp account that is installed with microsoft .net framework. would that do it? I haven't had the energy to re-install that yet. I deleted it so I wouldn't have to select an account on startup. Anyway, if you have any input I would appreciate it because this is annoying. Update: And I have just determined that I can listen so some songs on media player over the network, but I can never transfer them between computers.
Under My Computer you will notice a new folder called shared documents. Microsoft has made it easy to share files and folders over a network by dragging icons into it. If you wish to remove this folder from My computer all you have to do is delete a key from the windows registry.
l lost my shared folder any way to get it back..it was in documents and settings

View 1 Replies View RelatedAm trying to set up a network with xp Home edition. I am curious about a couple of things. What is the difference in copying verses moving a file to the shared document folder? I would thing that by copying it, one is "duplicating" it and thereby using up resources. IF that is the case, when you access a file and make changes, are the changes saved to both places?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a white box Pentium 4 CPU with XP professional service pack 2 build 2600 installed. The motherboard is an intel D865GLC with 512 MB RAM installed in Dual channel mode with 1 256 MB stick of ram in slot zero of bank 1 and 1 256 MB stick of ram in slot zero of bank 2. This memory is dual channel compatible. I tried to add another 2 sticks of the same type ram but from a different manufacturer.
Here's the problem: I can use any 2 of the 4 sticks of ram together, both from the same manufacturer or 1 from 1 manufacturer and 1 from the other for a total of 512 MB. Everything works fine. I can place one stick in slot 0 of bank 1 and the other in slot 0 of bank 2 or I can place 1 in slot 1 bank 1 and 1 in slot 1 of bank 2 with no problems. I can even place a 3rd stick of the same type ram in any open slot and all's fine (except the machine complains that this is not an optimal memory setup). Memtest86 reports no errors with any of the above configurations
I am having a system with XP Pro x64 with multiple shared folders. Here is the setup. I have about 10 users (1 Admin account, 9 Limited accounts). I have created 10 folders for each User and modified them as shared folders with each user having access to their respective folders ONLY while the Admin account will have access to all folders. I have disabled 'Simple File Sharing', switched off Guest Account. Now I can view this system on other systems on the n/w. But the problem is, if I map a shared folder on one system, I was not able to map anymore on other systems and it gives error, 'the system can not accept multiple connections' in those lines.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe default display pictures on my user accounts are gone (E.g. Skateboarder and Rubber Ducky). They just became the chess pieces picture, but then again, when I try to change them, all I can select from are my own pictures, the default ones are gone.
Also, "Shared Documents" became "Documents". When I try to open it, I can only find subfolders such as "My Music" which are empty, every single file I saved there is gone. I think they are deleted from the hard drive now? Because I noticed the space has increased by a few gigabytes, without uninstalliung anything.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new pc freshly installed with XP SP3. I used it as a server, I shared the two harddrives and mapped them as drive F and G on the network. The sharing and mapping is successfull, however, after a few minutes of being started (or after the pc has been restarted), the sahred folders and harddrives were self-disconnected for unknown reasons. My colleage timed it, and the sharing lasts only 15 minutes after restart then it is disonnected from the network. When i say disconnected - i mean i can't be seen from other PC's connected to the network, i need to restart the pc (again and again) in order for the harddrive and folder sharing is restored. I can say it is disconnected because the sharing icon (a hand with a disk drive on the palm) disappears and other PC's cannot access it.
