PCI Devices Have Killed My Second Moniter On Boot Camp
Jan 6, 2009
PCI device is missing - I think this killed my second monitor?I have just bought the macpro and I am running boot camp on it. I am a little computer illiterate so please bear with me Everything is now working perfectly except that I can't seem to get my second monitor working in XP mode. The option for it doesn't exist under "right click - properties and then settings"I have looked online and it looks like my PCI? device has something to do with this. I know that everything is working great on the system except that PCI has the yellow question mark beside it. I don't know what PCI is, but if it is my problem,
i am getting a Boot Failure message on my computer when I start it up. It seems like it is trying to boot from the various devices, Then I receive the Boot Failure message.
When I tried to boot it up it stalls just before loading up Windows XP Media Center. I have tried to boot from an external back-up drive, a memory stick with a bootable DOS program called "Spinrite" as well as from the system recovery DVD but it stalls at the same point. I made the appropriate changes to the boot order in the BIOS but that does not seem to results
Windows XP is my OS. i accidently set my video settings to TV-Moniter, when i dont have a TV hooked up to my comp, so i couldn't see anything. So then i booted up in Safe Mode, and then i could see because of the compatibility driver, so. then i boot up in Last Known Good Config, and I'M STUCK WITH SAFE MODE SETTINGS no sound driver running, task bar is the ugly gray one, and you know just stuff like that
when I try to power on my Inspiron B120 laptop, it takes me to the System Administrator password. I enter that then it simply shows the text "no bootable devices, strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility" if I press F1 it simply repeats the same text Setup utility is no help.
I hit F12 once when first powering on the computer and went into the boot menu I ran the "Pre-Boot Sytem Assesment Build 3020" When it ran through that test everything 'passed' the tests, but in the 'DST status test' it failed and stated that no hard drive was detected.
I haven't downloaded anything maliscious, or dropped my computer. What happened to my hard drive? and is there anything I can do now to get it up and running again?
The problem is that whenever I "switch user" (win + L) out of my account for someone else to log on their account, when they try logging off, my monitor acts like if I was putting the computer into sleep mode. That is, it goes black and some messages come up on the screen saying the usual "check power etc" messages and the light flashes. The computer continues to run and there is no way of restoring my screen so I am forced to press the main power button on the computer tower.
My computer is windows XP and Pentium 4. I had problems with booting the computer for a few months now and has gotten worst. When I press the reboot button, I hear the PC running, but the monitor is just blank. I had to click the reboot button MANY times before it starts, and whenever it does, I hear a beep sound and this green light flashes from the CD drive. After a few months later, I did it again but this time I don't hear the beep or see the green light flashing. So I figured out a way to make it work, and it was by clicking the reboot button like 10 times, then switching the back switch on the PC off, then turn it back on and reboot again once. So I was wondering if there's a problem with the monitor(about 9 years old),the graphic card(renewed it recently) or something else.
I have lost my sound. The sounds icon in control panel say " no audio devices" AND the sound tab shows all listed devices as working porperly. I have deleted an sound object that allows it in device manager and allowed XP to load wht it will. I still have no sound. I checked for sound services in services and they are started as well.If I load Knoppix and test, my sounds work so I am assumming it is not a hardware problem.
Can't open IE, control panel, Explore (file manager), My Computer (basically, anything that uses IE) - everything else (including Outlook Express) is ok.The Catch - It works in safe mode Have tried (and failed!): 1) Scanning for viruses - none (HouseCall and Norton scans) 2) Scanning for parasites - none of any consequence (used Spybot) 3) Delete id and create new id (thought maybe the logon id became corrupt especially since it seems to work ok in safe mode) 4) Installed Netscape. Downloaded and reinstalled IE - didn't help. 5) Checked registry - can't find anything that looks out of place...but then again...it IS the registry and I am sure it has to be in there somewhere! 6) Checked running services and processes - nothing out of the ordinary. Seems as though something may have come in WITH the SP2 update -- or that access settings to IE, My Computer, etc. have changed. I have tried all I can think of and can't find the fix for this. Is there a way to UNINSTALL SP2 and restore my settings from 8:00 a.m. yesterday morning? I can get into "remove and install programs" by backdooring it but the SP2 isn't appearing there.
This is my first time posting on this forum. Im at my last resort. On Wednesday, Oct.10, 2007 windows did an automatic update that contained something called Software Distribution System 3.0. This update has killed my computer. The computer will only work properly in safe mode. I tried to do a system restore but my computer gives a message Cannot restore to specified date, No changes have been made.
My computer is on a dual boot system. In case that makes a diffrence but shouldn't. It has been working fine. No problems. I disabled the updates because I didn't like them taking so much time and I didn't want any problems till I could back up the whole dual boot thing. I don't have the software yet. But despite me turning off the updates, they reactivated themselves somehow and updated from Windows (Windows updater that I got with Service Pack 2). Now my games and alot of other software no longer work, installations won't finish, media only plays half the time. its all messed up. I have Norton and Spy Sweeper so I doubt it was any of that and their scans don't show anything. Plus it did come from windows in the windows updater. Does anyone know what I can do? This really makes me mad. I work for over a month setting this whole dual boot and redoing this computer and the updates just screwed it all up.
I have a Win XP SP2 desktop. I lost use of the optical drives a while ago (both the factory DVDROM and a DVD Burner that I installed). When I tried to turn it on, I found that my keyboard (which worked before) does not work on my login screen (I have password protection on the alt logon...the one with just the username and a password box I booted into Ubuntu from a Live CD (I can do anything before Windows loads). Everything worked fine.
Although I used to have access on the net, suddenly for no apparent reason it's gone. I even "killed" Zonealarm from my system but nothing happened. It's gone.
I have trouble with the sound after reformating the computer and installing a new O.S. but can find a solution similar to mine with XP x 64 bit So I'm in the same boat ,,, Reformate my computer Install Xp x64 and no sound .But I tried already downloading the sound driver for my Motherboard in ASUS run the exe. but no sound still , the Yellow question mark still in the Other Devices / Multimedia Audio Controller, Pls can someone point me in the right direction of what step I'm missing and in wich order of installing, with all this sound drivers options I don't know wich one I need first to install and wich one I dont really need, for sure my sound card , but the other 3 ?
Working on a Dell Latitude D530 with Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pak 3; Experienced Serious Error and system had to shutdown. On restart; No Bottable Devices, Strike F1. On restart; Laptop very noisey. Probably coming from hard drive.Don't use this computer that often but contains critical information.Has not been physically abused, dropped or liquid spilled on or in it.It just crashed.
My WMP (v11) has strated toc crash whenever I plug a memory stick or my MP3 player.I have loaded a Hotfix that's supposed to address this problem but it's still there.
In the past few weeks my firewire port at the front of my PC is not recognising devices; external drives & camcorder.I've an Audigy 2 ZS with firewire port also, and it's not recognising devices also. Although I've never tried the Audigy before. Is there a possibility it's a software issue? (since both firewire's are inoperative) My USB 2 slots are all working fine.I might buy a PCI firewire card tomorrow and try that, But I appreciate if anyone has any ideas...
All USB ports wont recognise any devices although tried my MP3 player and power is getting to it. Checked Bios everything that matters seems to be enbled. Did clean re-install from restore disk XP1, upgraded to XP SP2 still same problem. (This needed doing anyway and USB problem existed before re-install) Device manager showing no problems.
everytime i boot up my puter i get this window showing that message and i h8 it cuz obviously somethings wrong n i have no clue n its DAAAMMNN slow... any help on how that happened n how 2 fix it?
I have Windows XP Media Center installed on my computer. How do I shut off all the sound devices on my computer so that when I get an error screen or start up my computer or whatever, I don't get any sound at all?
On a users laptop (IBM Thinkpad) the playback button under Sounds and Audio Devices - sounds - program events is greyed out. They are able to hear sounds. I can play a sound file in Media Player, but no sound otherwise. Also, in Shockwave (I know, not a Microsoft product, but I am just listing this as a troubleshooting issue), they don't hear any sound when playing a.swf file.
Im having a problem with the USB error bubble popping up constantly.. Sometimes i will get an hour or two without the bubble coming up.. but usually it pops up bout every 2-5 seconds.. As you could probably guess this is interferring with how my computer is operating.. It freezes up alot but it will resume after the freeze. If i restart sometimes that will help a little by cutting down how many times the bubble comes up.. I dont have anything plugged into the USBs But i do have a modem connected by ethernet. The error bubbles say USB device unrecognized after clicking on it it shows one unknown device. I have tried powering down and shutting off the power strip. And unistalling all devices and rebooting.
I was using it and I found out that the microphone on it was taking over default,so like an idiot i went in to Device manager and disabled the web camera mic driver.Because of this my windows xp will give me the blue screen of death and reboot when ever i plug it in.Including even if I plug it in before windows starts. All i want to know is, is there a way to see devices installed on the computer while it is not plugged in to the usb port to uninstall the driver.
I have an intermittent problem with XP not recognising USB devices. Knowledge Base Article 892050 says a HotFix is available. However, when I try to obtain it, I am told this will cost me £35
I have an old Compaq Presario 5360 with Sis 7001 PCI to USB controller. This machine was working GOOD, I could work with my USB web cam, USB drive, USB digicam and others MP3 players.I have reinstalled my WinXP with Service Pack 2.0 and now I CAN'T use any USB device, when I connect my USB drive this device is not powered, XP doesn't notify me for anything. simply this PC looks not to have any USB controller.I have an DELL Notebook, I can use my USB devices on it.I just reinstalled the OS in the same way how I did it before. I think is something about drivers, the control panel (System devices) tells me everything is good and my USB controllers are working correctly.
The computer I am working with is a Dell P4 desktop with 512 MB RAM, and Windows XP Home with SP2 that was purchased new in August 2005.The problem is that every time I plug a device into the system (MP4 player, USB printer, flash drive) it is not detected. If I look in Device Manager it shows up as an unknown device. If I then try to manually install the driver, it will install properly.I then decided to remove all USB Host Controllers, USB Root Hubs etc. After doing this and rebooting, all of these devices were unknown devices as well. Simply telling Windows to update the driver added the devices properly. Can anyone tell me if you have seen this before and if so, what the solution is?
I've been trying to figure this problem out for a while. After a little break, im back on the search for the solution.I've noticed that a lot of people have had the same or similar issue, but the solutions that i've found havn't helped me out.I had an M-audio firewire 410 audio interface, and one day i stupidly unplugged it without first turning off my computer. Ever since that happened, my sound has stopped working, all options in "sounds and audio devices" are greyed out with 'no audio device' showing up. I've uninstalled all m-audio drivers including the hidden ones. I've uninstalled all of my motherboard audio drivers and re-installed them. I've reformatted my whole computer out of desperation and then re-installed the motherboards audio drivers. Still I have the same issue. When i click on the installed audio drivers, it says they are working properly. Is this a hardware issue? do i need a new motherboard?
his roomate completey ruined the OS it wouldnt even boot to windows, It had a missing NTDLR, using a windows bootdisk I was able to reformat it and reload windows. Here is the odd part, the NTDLR.com and the NTDLR files are all in the root directory, andit still doesnt boot to windows without the startup disk, when I boot it up it says non bootable disk or non system disk then trys the CD roms then the floppy, yet i put the floppy disk in there and it magically works, and the files on the boot disk are the same as the files in the HD's root directory. So now I'm thinking something is wrong with the HardDrive not the NTDLR. I plugged another Hard Drive I had lying around with windows on it and made it the slave drive, and it worked fine, i could select both versions of windows(each 1 installation per disc) and the would both load, so Is there something before the NTDLR.
