Windows 8 device (Dell XPS 12 i7 running Windows 8.1 Pro). I like the touch input when it is flat in tablet mode, but when I plug a USB mouse into it when I am at my desk, I want the mouse inputs to be treated exactly like finger inputs on the touch screen. For example, scrolling by touching/clicking anywhere in a window or the ability to flick things using my mouse like I can with my finger. Simply using the mouse makes everything behave like it did in Windows 7: Clicking and dragging selects things instead of scrolling in Office 2013. I don't want this, I want it behave like Android does when I plug a mouse into it: Just like a finger was there.
I have looked everywhere for such a setting, but I cannot find one. How can I achieve this? I want all mouse inputs to be treated exactly like touch inputs.
Metro app which would provide ability to have any RSS feed in Windows 8 lockscreen? I would like to put my favourite site RSS there.
If that kind of app does not exist, how to create it?
I have been on Win 8 Consumer Pre and Release Pre... I love the 2 menus and love the reach across productivity/business and basic consumer with an apps loaded menu. BUT! How about giving us the option on what we want to load up at the start instead of needing a desktop tile on the menu.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 8.1 (standard/ home edition) and can't download a couple .exe files. I get "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this folder". errors. I'm the only user on this computer and have administrator access.
The file resides on mediafire and via my ipad I was able to manage to transfer it to dropbox, but I still get the same error. The filename (partial) is created but no further downloading is done.
I can't take ownership of the file-- it doesn't exist on my computer yet.
I can't change the local security policy (I understand this is only available in Win 8 Pro version).
UAC is already disabled as much as I can figure (via the slider set to never notify).
Short of setting up a super admin account (would this even work?)
Windows 8 may be good with a tablet or laptop.... My working environment uses desk top...monitors are big and out of reach ...some workers have their 17" monitors under a glass surface top work table, so touch screen input is useless.... so can I use windows 8 with keyboard and mouse only ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI use a Logitech k400 Wireless keyboard with a built in trackpad. It's great in theory, but the implementation has a few flaws:
The keys are small, and the trackpad is worthless, especially with Windows 8.
I've been trying to find an alternative, but the only one I found is using apple inputsw and something called a "Magic wand" which connects the two:
Here's what I'm thinking of doing:
Buy a Logitech Wireless Rechargeable Touchpad T650
Buy a Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800
Buy a board slightly bigger than the footprint of both of these devices, and a bunch of velcro.
You can guess the rest.
I am using Windows 8 and get a annoying problem. The Input method can be swith by type "ALT+SHIFT" combination, but this is just only change the default Input method, then every app you openned got this "INput method " . This is different from WIN7 and I think this is not a good change.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows seems to keep shutting itself down after about 1-2 hours of no user input. By this I mean, regardless of what programs are left running, if I do not move the mouse of press a button on the keyboard once an hour, the system will shut itself down.
This is not a crash, there are no errors, the event log shows nothing unusual, Windows runs through the full and proper shut down procedure as if I had clicked the shut down button myself.
I have checked through every option I can think of, I have looked at every option I can think of in the Power Options menu, including the advanced options, I have searched on Google and on here, and I can come up with nothing.
If you add an input method by mistake you CANNOT it seems remove it again.
The remove button is greyed out. This applies to Windows 8.1 not Windows 8.
How to get rid of this.
During the installation stages of windows 8, I choose English language and US as keyboard input method. But after few weeks later, I bought a new British style keyboard and in control panel I replaced US method with English (United Kingdom). While I'm logged into the operating system the input method works correctly, but after every shutdown on a next user log in when I'm writing my password it's still English US method that not corespondent with the keys on the keyboard. This not happening if I put the system in sleep mode.

Normally, I'm used to install Windows 8.1 by running setup.exe from Windows Explorer(not by boot DVD/Flash Drive). But yesterday when I tried to install it by a boot dvd, I faced a problem which's solution I couldn't find in google, when I press any key after the message appears(Press any key to boot from cd/dvd), the setup loads and my display goes black and shows a message "The current input timing isn't supported by the monitor display. change your input timing tp 1280x1024@60Hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor applications."
I needed to restart the PC by the button in the CPU and couldn't install Windows.
Note : My monitor's manufacturer is Dell
The touch input in this device is so bad i have to use my stylus pen to browse webs(i can never touch the back page button on google chrome instead it touches the forward page button instead),close programs(touch the top of the screen and pulling it down never works), opening the charm bar(swiping my finger from the right of the screen to the left never works too).
I tried calibrating it by searching calibrate on the charm bar's search feature but they doesn't work as well.
Its getting so annoying because i can't use the touch screen feature at all because its not precise.
I have a Sony VAIO VPCSE and I have installed Windows 8 Professional. My region, language, input methods etc are set to English(Ireland)
The Problem When I turn on my laptop, there is the word "ENG" beside my clock and my input language is set to English (United States). When I click ENG; I am giving the option to switch between English(Ireland) and English (United States).
When I go to language preferences, the English (United States) language does not show as being one of my preferences
However, when I add the language and then press "Remove", the ENG beside the clock disappears
I don't mind what it is; editing the registry, deleting the English(United States) language.
In windows 7, windowed mode input lag was fixed by turning off aero. Is there a fix for windows 8?
View 4 Replies View RelatedUsing Windows 8.1. I have English and Japanese input languages added, and both are listed as options in the language toolbar, but it is impossible to select anything but English. Windows+Space allows me to navigate to Japanese, but releasing the keys or pressing Enter does nothing. The Left Alt+Shift shortcut also does nothing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to be able to input text using three different languages: English (US), Russian, Ukrainian. To that end I have prepared the following:
As you see, UI is being overridden to Ukrainian too, which is also desired.
I also need to be able to switch input languages NOT using any cyclic shortcut like Ctrl+Shift or Alt+Shift, but by language-specific shortcut, namely Ctrl+1 for English, Ctrl+2 for Ukrainian, Ctrl+3 for Russian. It has been so for years for me and I got used to it.
To that end I found the following setup
There you see two Ukrainian layouts (I made one myself, another one is built-in).
The problem is that Ctrl+1 for English works, Ctrl+3 for Russian works too, but BOTH shortcuts for Ukrainian layots do NOT work. When I press Ctrl+2 or Ctrl+4 just nothing happens. I tried to change the Ukrainian shortcuts to no avail.
What's more interesting thing I just discovered, is that these Ukrainian shortcuts do work selectively.
In Notepad and MS Word -- don't work
In Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox, also Skype -- does work.
Shortcuts seem to be working everywhere EXCEPT the software written by Microsoft.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Dad used to use the laptop that me and my Mom share, and he did something to the settings on the computer (I don't know what, or else I would have fixed it myself.) which allow you to use a USB mic, and he disabled the microphone jack on the computer.
I really want to find out how to change it, because I'm planning on doing TF2 livestreams, and I need the mic to do so, and if I can't find a way to fix this, then I'm going to either have to use one of the crappy USB mics we have, or I'm going to have to convince my Dad to let me use his 300$ mic.
I only just bought a new computer with Windows 8.1 on it. (SO not impressed with this OS.) Anyway, I'm trying to set up all my externals. I have an external microphone I use through a Tascam US-200 audio interface. It has the ability to record in stereo and I have done so for some time using Audacity on my old computer running Windows 7 with no problems.
I checked that the Tascam system has been tested with Windows 8. No problems there. I installed the drivers and audacity and set everything up. However, I'm still only getting mono sound instead of stereo when I attempt to record. I've double checked that the Default Format for the input device is set to 2 channel, 16 bit, 441000 Hz and that Audacity is set to take in a stereo input. No joy. I can record sound but only in mono.
P.S. After repeated attempts I CAN get the system to recognise the stereo input... for less than a second when first turned on. Something is getting through but for some reason it just doesn't keep.
Where is the recently opened programs list in Windows 8.1?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWindows 8.1. I built a new computer yesterday, and installed Windows 8.1. I had previously run Windows 7 on my older computer.
Everything was working great, till today I decided to move my documents, pictures, music, and video folders to a different drive. I succeeded fine with documents, music, and video, however pictures seem to be a little messed up.
see the below screenshot:
At the top, you will see it lists folders for music twice, both folders show my music files in them. I realize these are probably just pointers to the music folder, but now I have music twice, and pictures is not up there.
However, when I check to show libraries in the navigation pane, you will on the same screen shot, it does list documents, music, pictures, and video there as it should.
How I can get those folders back up at the top as they should be?
Today I've had a bsod on Windows 8.1 pro 64 bit, I got this error pfn list corrupt and waited for the pc to restart and it didn't. I've turned off the pc by holding the power button for a couple of seconds, restarted it, now it doesn't boot. The lights on the motherboard light up but the cpu fan isn't running.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my laptop to Win 8.1 a few days ago and everything seemed to be working fine. I ran into an issue today using the desktop version of IE 11 where I can type text into the address bar but if I select a field on a web page, I am not able to type text into it. I normally use FireFox as my browser and it works fine (as does Chrome). If I bring up the Metro version of IE 11, I can enter text fine.
It's not a big deal since I rarely use IE but it bugs me now that I know about it. I just checked on a netbook I upgraded and don't see the issue there.
So my Laptop does accept HDMI as Input to. But I don't know about any program, that can watch what is being put in.

Is there a setting in windows that will allow me to see this or is something blocking the list from being displayed.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis has been happening for a while but it only ever happens after wake-up from sleep and it's back up again in 5 seconds flat so it's never bothered me too much.
If I catch the error I believe it's PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. Running Windbg on the minidumps gives a range of causes, memory_corruptions, fileinfo.sys, ntkrnlmp.exe
Apparently this is either bad memory or driver. I ran memtester86 for 8 passes and my memory came up clear so I'm thinking bad drivers. I followed the instructions for driver verifier but unfortunately my system will BSOD when booting with DRIVER VERIFIER IO MANAGER VIOLATION error so I have to enter safe mode and disable it.
Brief specs:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz, 3501 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
System Model Z87X-UD3H
Memory 16GB Kingston DDR3
GTX 780 Ti
Windows 8.1 Version 6.3.9600 Build 9600
I have attached 2 minidumps, one is a "regular" BSOD and the other is what I get when booting with driver verifier enabled.
