View 4 RepliesWindows 8 device (Dell XPS 12 i7 running Windows 8.1 Pro). I like the touch input when it is flat in tablet mode, but when I plug a USB mouse into it when I am at my desk, I want the mouse inputs to be treated exactly like finger inputs on the touch screen. For example, scrolling by touching/clicking anywhere in a window or the ability to flick things using my mouse like I can with my finger. Simply using the mouse makes everything behave like it did in Windows 7: Clicking and dragging selects things instead of scrolling in Office 2013. I don't want this, I want it behave like Android does when I plug a mouse into it: Just like a finger was there.
I have looked everywhere for such a setting, but I cannot find one. How can I achieve this? I want all mouse inputs to be treated exactly like touch inputs.
Issue: Youtube/Flash 1080p Windowed has slow video playback in Firefox/Waterfox & Opera, but in fullscreen it runs absolutely smooth.
However on IE and Chrome a 1080p video runs just fine windowed.
Once I have entered into windows mode when using a Metro App, how do I exit Window mode and return to full screen and still be in the app?
Using Stardocks Modern Mix they have this ability, does Windows 8 not have this?
How to add new keyboard input language ? I have one language, but i want to add english language. I go to control panel, language, add a language, then i select english, and then just blank window appears... :
Or i go to language, then select for current language options, add an input method, and then explorer just crashes and restarts ... :
Windows 8 may be good with a tablet or laptop.... My working environment uses desk top...monitors are big and out of reach ...some workers have their 17" monitors under a glass surface top work table, so touch screen input is useless.... so can I use windows 8 with keyboard and mouse only ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe touch input in this device is so bad i have to use my stylus pen to browse webs(i can never touch the back page button on google chrome instead it touches the forward page button instead),close programs(touch the top of the screen and pulling it down never works), opening the charm bar(swiping my finger from the right of the screen to the left never works too).
I tried calibrating it by searching calibrate on the charm bar's search feature but they doesn't work as well.
Its getting so annoying because i can't use the touch screen feature at all because its not precise.
I have a Sony VAIO VPCSE and I have installed Windows 8 Professional. My region, language, input methods etc are set to English(Ireland)
The Problem When I turn on my laptop, there is the word "ENG" beside my clock and my input language is set to English (United States). When I click ENG; I am giving the option to switch between English(Ireland) and English (United States).
When I go to language preferences, the English (United States) language does not show as being one of my preferences
However, when I add the language and then press "Remove", the ENG beside the clock disappears
I don't mind what it is; editing the registry, deleting the English(United States) language.
Using Windows 8.1. I have English and Japanese input languages added, and both are listed as options in the language toolbar, but it is impossible to select anything but English. Windows+Space allows me to navigate to Japanese, but releasing the keys or pressing Enter does nothing. The Left Alt+Shift shortcut also does nothing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to be able to input text using three different languages: English (US), Russian, Ukrainian. To that end I have prepared the following:
As you see, UI is being overridden to Ukrainian too, which is also desired.
I also need to be able to switch input languages NOT using any cyclic shortcut like Ctrl+Shift or Alt+Shift, but by language-specific shortcut, namely Ctrl+1 for English, Ctrl+2 for Ukrainian, Ctrl+3 for Russian. It has been so for years for me and I got used to it.
To that end I found the following setup
There you see two Ukrainian layouts (I made one myself, another one is built-in).
The problem is that Ctrl+1 for English works, Ctrl+3 for Russian works too, but BOTH shortcuts for Ukrainian layots do NOT work. When I press Ctrl+2 or Ctrl+4 just nothing happens. I tried to change the Ukrainian shortcuts to no avail.
What's more interesting thing I just discovered, is that these Ukrainian shortcuts do work selectively.
In Notepad and MS Word -- don't work
In Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox, also Skype -- does work.
Shortcuts seem to be working everywhere EXCEPT the software written by Microsoft.
Link to install Chinese (traditional or simplified) handwriting input method. I have a windows 8 pro tablet/laptop, and a Asus Vivo Windows RT.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a Logitech k400 Wireless keyboard with a built in trackpad. It's great in theory, but the implementation has a few flaws:
The keys are small, and the trackpad is worthless, especially with Windows 8.
I've been trying to find an alternative, but the only one I found is using apple inputsw and something called a "Magic wand" which connects the two:
Here's what I'm thinking of doing:
Buy a Logitech Wireless Rechargeable Touchpad T650
Buy a Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800
Buy a board slightly bigger than the footprint of both of these devices, and a bunch of velcro.
You can guess the rest.
I am using Windows 8 and get a annoying problem. The Input method can be swith by type "ALT+SHIFT" combination, but this is just only change the default Input method, then every app you openned got this "INput method " . This is different from WIN7 and I think this is not a good change.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows seems to keep shutting itself down after about 1-2 hours of no user input. By this I mean, regardless of what programs are left running, if I do not move the mouse of press a button on the keyboard once an hour, the system will shut itself down.
This is not a crash, there are no errors, the event log shows nothing unusual, Windows runs through the full and proper shut down procedure as if I had clicked the shut down button myself.
I have checked through every option I can think of, I have looked at every option I can think of in the Power Options menu, including the advanced options, I have searched on Google and on here, and I can come up with nothing.
I have a Duo 11 (Sony VAIO Tablet Laptop | VAIO Duo 11 Ultrabook | SVD11215CXB | Sony USA this one) and one day I plugged in my mouse and suddenly the touch screen stopped working and after digging around in the device manager and settings i can find nothing except for this, "no pen or touch input is available for this display".
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Dad used to use the laptop that me and my Mom share, and he did something to the settings on the computer (I don't know what, or else I would have fixed it myself.) which allow you to use a USB mic, and he disabled the microphone jack on the computer.
I really want to find out how to change it, because I'm planning on doing TF2 livestreams, and I need the mic to do so, and if I can't find a way to fix this, then I'm going to either have to use one of the crappy USB mics we have, or I'm going to have to convince my Dad to let me use his 300$ mic.
I only just bought a new computer with Windows 8.1 on it. (SO not impressed with this OS.) Anyway, I'm trying to set up all my externals. I have an external microphone I use through a Tascam US-200 audio interface. It has the ability to record in stereo and I have done so for some time using Audacity on my old computer running Windows 7 with no problems.
I checked that the Tascam system has been tested with Windows 8. No problems there. I installed the drivers and audacity and set everything up. However, I'm still only getting mono sound instead of stereo when I attempt to record. I've double checked that the Default Format for the input device is set to 2 channel, 16 bit, 441000 Hz and that Audacity is set to take in a stereo input. No joy. I can record sound but only in mono.
P.S. After repeated attempts I CAN get the system to recognise the stereo input... for less than a second when first turned on. Something is getting through but for some reason it just doesn't keep.
Provide a list of Input Locales for Windows 8?
Or know any changes of the Input Locales compared to 7?
My screen seems to have a grey filter overlaying it. See attached.
When i booted it in safe mode, the screen is showing the right vibrant colors. When i booted it back to normal mode, the screen is greyish but strangely the mouse is showing the correct white color.
I have googled across numerous website but none of them bring me closer to the issue. I have read the thread, Personalize Suddenly Greyed Out but this is not what i encountered. The options or buttons or selections did not grey out, it affects the screen only.
I cannot afford a system restore because i shared this laptop with my gf.
If you add an input method by mistake you CANNOT it seems remove it again.
The remove button is greyed out. This applies to Windows 8.1 not Windows 8.
How to get rid of this.
During the installation stages of windows 8, I choose English language and US as keyboard input method. But after few weeks later, I bought a new British style keyboard and in control panel I replaced US method with English (United Kingdom). While I'm logged into the operating system the input method works correctly, but after every shutdown on a next user log in when I'm writing my password it's still English US method that not corespondent with the keys on the keyboard. This not happening if I put the system in sleep mode.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my laptop to Win 8.1 a few days ago and everything seemed to be working fine. I ran into an issue today using the desktop version of IE 11 where I can type text into the address bar but if I select a field on a web page, I am not able to type text into it. I normally use FireFox as my browser and it works fine (as does Chrome). If I bring up the Metro version of IE 11, I can enter text fine.
It's not a big deal since I rarely use IE but it bugs me now that I know about it. I just checked on a netbook I upgraded and don't see the issue there.
So my Laptop does accept HDMI as Input to. But I don't know about any program, that can watch what is being put in.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI wonder with this problems that has just started today. I have an Acer Aspire V5 which has just been updated from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. This laptop is used for training and is usually connected to a training monitor for students to follow along with the trainer.
This has worked perfectly until I updated to Windows 8.1. When I connect to the training monitor I get a message saying 'Input Signal Out of Range, reset to 1280 x 1080 60ghz. There isn't a setting for the above resolution. Everything works fine until I connect to the secondary monitor. Annoyingy the message remains on that screen - I can't remove it.
I have some problems ....
1. My keyboard cant properly type in " without me inputting another input. so everytime i wanna type in " i need to click space just to make it appear. how do i make it normal?
2. My date and time keeps changing and it makes me lose track of time quite a lot. its already set to automatic internet time, but it keeps changing still. i keep changing it back, resyncing and stuff. How to make it stop?
Normally, I'm used to install Windows 8.1 by running setup.exe from Windows Explorer(not by boot DVD/Flash Drive). But yesterday when I tried to install it by a boot dvd, I faced a problem which's solution I couldn't find in google, when I press any key after the message appears(Press any key to boot from cd/dvd), the setup loads and my display goes black and shows a message "The current input timing isn't supported by the monitor display. change your input timing tp 1280x1024@60Hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor applications."
I needed to restart the PC by the button in the CPU and couldn't install Windows.
Note : My monitor's manufacturer is Dell
I have strange network problem these days. I have a desktop PC and installed Windows 8.1. And I have a LAN. The gateway IP address is 192.168.2.1.
The network works fine when I start the PC. I can access Internet with IE, I can access the config pages of my gateway and I can SSH my local File server. It's a synology ds212j. I assigned static IP address 192.168.2.18 to it and name it as "home_ds". I add dns entry in file "hosts".
But there will be very strange problems if the PC keeps running about 2/3 days. It seems I can't connect to other computers from my PC. No IE, no SSH, no ftp.... But ping still work. These is no network device listed in my network folder. But I still can access the mapped network drives.
For example, I can ping www.google.com, I can ping 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.2.18 and "home_ds".

But when I try to telnet and ssh, all failed.
I tried:
telnet www.google.com 80
telnet 192.168.2.1 80
telnet 192.168.2.18 22
all failed.
I tied putty, msn, outlook,... all failed. But my wife's PC works normally at the same time.
In the network folder, there should be a list of all my network devices, including my wife's PC and my File server. But it's empty if this problem happens. However I can add them mannually and I can access the network drives.
And I can connect to my PC from my wife's PC with remote desktop.
If I logout and login again, the network will recover except 1 new problem. That is I can't access the network drives of my File Server with computer name "home_ds", but IP address works. And I can ping it with computer name.
K:>ping home_ds

A restart will solve both the above 2 problems. But I don't want to restart my PC so frequently.
I tried to solve this problem by update windows and drivers but failed.
So today I got a new acer laptop with windows 8. The laptop only has one audio/microphone input in it. When I first plugged the headset microphone jack into the singular input, it asked what device it was. I selected headset and moved on. Later, I could not find my headset mic in my audio devices/microphones. I could only see the computer default internal microphone.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWell, things went on until noon yesterday, but suddenly My PC takes no audio input or gives any output.
I have tried reinstalling driver, checking mute button, checking Cables etc, none of the audio devices work on my PC which work in other devices.
On opening realtek audio manager and playing auto test, Nothing plays, and going to control Panel -> Sound, and playing the test tone, I get this error:
Just as an additional info, I reinstalled AVG Internet Security 14 yesterday, and probably the audio was working till then. Once AVG was installed and the system got restarted, a system Update was triggered automatically, if that has got anything to do with my problem.
P.S. I could not use system restore as well, I get the following error:
Also, I come to know by googling that The Audio and System restore problems come in combos frequently.
In my brothers rig has the GMA x4500 as video card integrated so he has win 8 and he installed a custom modded driver to access to control panel and to config openGl and other things now he was asked to enable test mode before installing that driver and disable driver signing after he finished every thing he disabled back test mode but the system is keeping using it and the watermark stays
at the bottom I tried these
bcdedit -set loadoptions ENABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING OFF
with no sign of being removed
I had to boot into safe mode for virus removal and now all it will do is boot and start safe mode, then reboot again. It just keep doing it over and over. This is a new upgrade to a windows 7 pro OS and I am using 8 pro.
Cannot boot in normal mode. Tried to do that by going into the advanced repair and doing a normal startup, just keeps going back to safe mode and as soon as the screen starts to open it reboots.
