For some time now, I cannot load pdf files, even though I have installed and updated Adobe files. This problem started (perhaps) when I installed something called PDF Viewer, some months ago. I have deleted that but still I can't get pdfs to load.
View 8 RepliesI have Adobe Reader loaded on my Windows 8 system. If I have a PDF file saved to my local drives I can open it no problem. When I'm in Internet Explorer and click a PDF link, it starts to load then freezes. I have to use the Task Manager to end the process. I've tried both versions 10 and 11 of Adobe Reader but both freeze up.
This is a new HP Desktop PC Intel i7 3820 Processor, running Windows 8
After my upgrade to 8.1 Pro my computer lost the ability to sleep/hibernate. After following many tips on here, I managed to get sleep & hibernation onto the shutdown menu so manual operatin works okay.
The automatic mode is still a work in progress but I'm wondering if I've managed to get it to go into automatic sleep mode but not as yet hibernation.
I prefer to use hibernation so don't really know alot about sleep mode - I've got it configured to go into hibernation (10 minutes ) before sleep (15 minutes) in the power options.
After a period of time the computer will automatically attempt to enter either sleep or hibernation mode - not sure which. The screen switches off and the cpu increases in volume as if its consuming more power. The blue light flashes slowly which to me signifies that it has entered sleep mode. The computer has in effect shut down but sounds like its in overdrive with either the cpu or fan going ten to the dozen. Clicking the mouse wakes it up and brings it back to the sign-on screen.
So what's going on here? Is this a failed attempt at sleep mode as trying manual sleep brings the same result. It certainly doesn't go into automatic hibernation which is something I'm ultimately trying to resolve.
So I'm not sure if I've solved automatic sleep or not as its unbearably noisy and not something I can put up with.
Windows 8 IE 10 (All recent updates) Like to watch wood working videos on Youtube. No problems before today ,now they will not play. Been reading and some mention of ActiveX and Flashplayer settings. I have done now changes to any settings since all was working fine. What should I be looking at to fix ?

PDFs that are supposed to be emailed, via a button on a webpage, come to me unopenable, and if downloaded, are unable to be loaded due to some format issue.
I tested the same functions on a Win XP laptop, with same Chrome and Adobe Reader version. It worked fine, on the same network and ISP.
WHAT is it about 8.1 that precludes anything from getting PDFs down in one readable piece?
I'm so fed up with Adobe Acrobat -- why do I need to install 2GB of software to do simple .doc to .pdf conversions. So I'm curious, is there a free, or relatively inexpensive solution to do the following?
1. Convert Word documents into PDF.
2. Convert web pages into PDF from a web browser.
I am new to Windows 8 and need to use my laptop for my business and am very frustrated right now. When opening a PDF from an e-mail attachment, I don't know how to close it out after I'm done viewing it. And now every time I try to open a new PDF attachment, it is bringing me back to the same PDF I opened yesterday (which happens to be my credit card statement!) and won't open the new PDF I need to view and print.

I setup one machine exactly how I want it, with all the programs,pdfs, and weblinks, and placed all of the tiles where I want them. I then created a new profile, replaced the tile placement file with the one that has all of the tiles I already created. I rebooted the machine, signed back on with the new profile and all of the weblinks and pdfs are missing. Any way I can get these to keep? I really do not want to have to recreate all of the tiles for 40 new machines.

View 9 Replies View Relatedmy mouse keeps waking my computer from S3 sleep everytime it is slighty moved. I want to disable my mouse's ability to wake up my computer.
Disabling wake-on-usb is not an option as i want to be able to wake up my computer when i press a key on my keyboard.I have tried to check in device manager for the power control options of my mouse.
I have Adobe Reader 11.06 installed. I can open a single pdf perfectly well from Explorer, but when I double click on a second pdf to open it, nothing happens (it doesn't open). This only happens when I already have one instance of Adobe Reader open - opening the first pdf works just fine. And if I close the first one, I can open the other file (I just can't open them simultaneously). Opening a second file from Adobe Reader's open file dialogue also works fine.
After some investigation, it seems that when I open multiple PDFs on my SSD (which Windows is installed to), it works perfectly. It only runs into issues when opening PDFs located on another hard drive, which is an issue for me because my Dropbox folder is hosted on a separate hard drive.
All you have to do is disable security measures in Adobe Reader XI (Edit -> Preferences -> Security (Enhanced) -> Sandbox Protection -> Enable Protected Mode at startup -> turn off).
When I open a .pdf it uses the Reader app. I have no problem with that except when I am on a website it opens the pdf in a new half window. Meaning the original site and the .pdf each are in their own side by side window. Yes I can drag it to full but everything I read said it should open full. Or at least that's how I would like it.
I have not found any settings to make it always open full. I should say that if I just open the Reader app on its own it does open full screen.
Where did the desktop colors applet disappear to? It's under personalize under Windows 7 but it's not there under Windows 8.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded and installed Windows 8 Pro several months ago (a year ago?). I used it for several months and was reasonably satisfied with it. But LogMeIn ws not compatible with Windows 8 at the time, so I uninstalled it and returned to Win7.
Since the time I uninstalled Windows 8, the external HD that the setup files were stored on crapped out and I lost everything on it. I do have the activation code. My question is whether or not I can re-acquire a genuine copy of Windows 8 without having to purchase another copy of Windows 8 Pro?
I install new os my new laptop that had windows 8. I lost windows 8 in the installation process. I got all the docs came the laptop. Is there anyway to get windows 8 back?
View 9 Replies View RelatedLong ago when using 7 early on I botched up trying to remove an Acer OEM partition to no avail only to be left missing roughly 65GBs of my hard drive and not being able to see the partition. Luckily I didn't destroy the HD!
I found a nice little free utility that Brink introduced here: Partition - Recover Deleted Partitions in Windows that I ran and it was able to see the partition. Not only that partition, but a bunch of smaller ones. I couldn't believe my eyes when I came to look at this after it was finished scanning!
Below is the results of the scan. The first one listed (no label) is my Windows 8 Pro partition. The one labled 8.1 is obviosly my 8.1 RP that I dual boot. The one with the checkmark with no label I'm guessing is the Acer partition. As you can see Windows Disk Management does not see any other partitions other than 8 and 8.1.
If at all possible, what do I need to do to correct this? I'd like not to touch my 8 partition because of Office, but I will if I need to. 8.1 is just a preview. What are all those smaller ones? What does overlapped mean?
I installed the windows 8.1 update thinking it would just upgrade the system but it looks as though it's done a reinstall. I've now got loads of things not working, my programs have lost lots of there settings and it seems really slow.
I'm currently restoring a true image back up and I'm praying it's going to work , I don't think I'll bother with 8.1 until I reinstall the system from scratch.
I've suddenly lost the graphic on most of my tiles. I now have coloured squares with no indication of what they are.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI got to the office yesterday and the PC, which I left running and working as usually, had in it's screen the common message saying the computer can't boot any device (strange since the computer was running and it's a message hat appears when booting). After trying to reboot it a couple of times, a message saying "...kernel... file is missing... try advance tools..." was shown. I tried to "refresh" the system.
Anyway, The thing is that after refreshing I have lost much more than the apps. The apps I can retrieve, It will take me half a day to retrieve almost all of the software, but doable. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE DATA??? I have two drivers on the PC, C: (software) and D: (data), and it looks as if my "D:" driver had been erased or something. I see it but I can't open it (properties say it's empty and before being opened has to be formatted). I don't get it....
Where is my data??? Whereis my driver?
Prior to doing a system restore with a third party imaging program which was successful and saved the day, I noticed all the restore points were gone. They were there as I check each day/Why did they disappear as they never used to?

I used my BD to load an ISO file and it mounted a CD Drive (F to accomplish that. I know to unmount the drive you need to right click and 'Eject' it. However, my 'Eject' option is greyed out and not available. Until I unmount that drive, I am not able to use my physical Blue Ray Drive. how to accomplish this?
