Win 8.1 PDFs Not Loading Or Downloading / Emailing Correctly?

Jun 13, 2014

This is any browser; Opera , IE, Chrome....all updated, Adobe Reader updated today, Chrome updated to 36 today...

PDFs that are supposed to be emailed, via a button on a webpage, come to me unopenable, and if downloaded, are unable to be loaded due to some format issue.

I tested the same functions on a Win XP laptop, with same Chrome and Adobe Reader version. It worked fine, on the same network and ISP.

WHAT is it about 8.1 that precludes anything from getting PDFs down in one readable piece?

Browsers/Mail :: Gmail Not Loading Correctly In Windows 8.1 / IE 11

Oct 29, 2013

I recently upgraded to windows 8.1 pro edition, which includes internet explorer 11. I still can't access my gmail account, I've tried the 'fixes' that I've seen in the community, but the only way I can get gmail to load in the 'desktop' version is to select the 'html' version.

How to get gmail to load correctly, but so far ..it still doesn't load like it did while I had windows 8 pro / IE 10 installed on my laptop. Lately..I've just been using google chrome browser, things are 'normal' with it.

Browsers/Mail :: Emailing Pictures From Desktop?

May 28, 2013

Disregard the Photos & SkyDrive apps, (Picture files). I select Pictures in File Explorer on the Desktop. I select a photo, right click it & choose: 'Send to'>'Mail recipient', an 'Attach files' dialog box opens, I choose the picture size I want & click 'Attach', another box opens captioned 'Email Client selection', I select 'Use System Default'>OK. Mail opens up.

The heading of the email folder reads: Emailing: (Caption/Title of the photo) in blue colouring. No copy of picture selected. I send it to myself. It comes back in the 'Inbox' with the same sentence in blue, (but still no picture). I try to click on the blue caption. Nothing. I highlight it, it only gives me the privilege of Copying the caption. How do I send a photo from Pictures in the File Explorer?

Browsers/Mail :: Emailing Resized Digital Images In Windows 8.1

Sep 15, 2014

When I access the dialog box headed "Attach Files" and choose the wording "Smaller 640 x 480", I then click on ATTACH at the foot of the box.

When I go back to the gmail page and choose the resized picture to send as an attachment, the size shown is an enormous size. Why not the reduced size?

I understand that Windows automatically resizes the picture to be sent in an attachment. So why does the picture not appear in its reduced size but in its original size on the gmail page? Is this normal? Will the picture be transmitted in its reduced size or in its original size?

PDFs Won't Load - Freezes In Explorer

Jan 18, 2013

I have Adobe Reader loaded on my Windows 8 system. If I have a PDF file saved to my local drives I can open it no problem. When I'm in Internet Explorer and click a PDF link, it starts to load then freezes. I have to use the Task Manager to end the process. I've tried both versions 10 and 11 of Adobe Reader but both freeze up.

Convert Word Documents / Web Pages Into PDFs

Aug 1, 2013

I'm so fed up with Adobe Acrobat -- why do I need to install 2GB of software to do simple .doc to .pdf conversions. So I'm curious, is there a free, or relatively inexpensive solution to do the following?

1. Convert Word documents into PDF.
2. Convert web pages into PDF from a web browser.

Windows 8 - Opening PDFs From Email Attachment

Jan 30, 2014

I am new to Windows 8 and need to use my laptop for my business and am very frustrated right now. When opening a PDF from an e-mail attachment, I don't know how to close it out after I'm done viewing it. And now every time I try to open a new PDF attachment, it is bringing me back to the same PDF I opened yesterday (which happens to be my credit card statement!) and won't open the new PDF I need to view and print.

Win 8 Tiles - All Of Weblinks And PDFs Missing When Signed Into New Profile

Feb 20, 2013

Currently I am in process of imaging and distributing new Dell XPS 12 with win 8. I setup one machine exactly how I want it, with all the programs, pdfs, and weblinks, and placed all of the tiles where I want them. I then created a new profile, replaced the tile placement file with the one that has all of the tiles I already created. I rebooted the machine, signed back on with the new profile and all of the weblinks and pdfs are missing. Any way I can get these to keep? I really do not want to have to recreate all of the tiles for 40 new machines.

Windows Explorer Won't Open Multiple PDFs In Adobe Reader

May 4, 2014

I have Adobe Reader 11.06 installed. I can open a single pdf perfectly well from Explorer, but when I double click on a second pdf to open it, nothing happens (it doesn't open). This only happens when I already have one instance of Adobe Reader open - opening the first pdf works just fine. And if I close the first one, I can open the other file (I just can't open them simultaneously). Opening a second file from Adobe Reader's open file dialogue also works fine.

After some investigation, it seems that when I open multiple PDFs on my SSD (which Windows is installed to), it works perfectly. It only runs into issues when opening PDFs located on another hard drive, which is an issue for me because my Dropbox folder is hosted on a separate hard drive.

All you have to do is disable security measures in Adobe Reader XI (Edit -> Preferences -> Security (Enhanced) -> Sandbox Protection -> Enable Protected Mode at startup -> turn off).

Apps / Software :: PDFs Open In Half Window Using Reader App?

May 2, 2014

When I open a .pdf it uses the Reader app. I have no problem with that except when I am on a website it opens the pdf in a new half window. Meaning the original site and the .pdf each are in their own side by side window. Yes I can drag it to full but everything I read said it should open full. Or at least that's how I would like it.

I have not found any settings to make it always open full. I should say that if I just open the Reader app on its own it does open full screen.

Downloading 8.1 ISO With Windows 8.0 Key?

Sep 15, 2014

I am looking to download an ISO of Windows 8.1 so that, in the future, I do not have to go through the process of first installing Windows 8.0 and then downloading Windows 8.1 and installing it.

I have found pages on the web dated around April 2014 that describe a process that involves beginning the download for Windows 8.0 ISO, canceling the download after it starts, and then attempting to download Windows 8.1. However, it appears that Microsoft has nullified this trick by since requiring that you put in your Windows 8.1 key when attempting to download the Windows 8.1 ISO.

SSD Space Not Being Shown Correctly?

Nov 16, 2012

I just installed a pretty clean install of Windows 8 Pro (I used the upgrade, but I did the upgrade immediately over top of a clean windows 7 install). It is installed on an intel SSD. I haven't installed any applications or added any documents, or files. However, when I go to file explorer and right click on my drive it shows that I've used 69GB of space on the SSD! That's after doing disk cleanup and removing the previous windows files and temporary upgrade files. I couldn't believe Windows was taking up 69GB, so I investigated further. If I select the drive in file explorer and then select every folder displayed, and then right click and select properties, then it only comes up as about 13GB. Is there a known problem with Windows 8 computing space useage on SSD drives?

And I didn't know what to answer him, I'm pretty sure you get a standard image that you can use not only to upgrade but to install Windows anew doing that; but I don't know if it'll be the one with spring's update.

Windows And Icons Not Moving Correctly?

Mar 17, 2014

On one of my systems that was recently installed. I'm having this strange issue with dragging windows around on the screen. I open up a Word doc, IE window, other application, doesn't really seem to matter. When I grab the window with the mouse to move it, it will sometimes move just a inch and then it stops letting me grab it. I have to click 4-7 times to get windows to let me grab the window again, sometimes I have to switch to another app and then switch back. This also happens with just moving windows around on the desktop, it will sometimes let me move it 2-3" and then I just loose the grip

A smaller problem I see, is when I click the X on some windows to close them, sometimes it takes 2-3 clicks before it takes affect. Again, the problem isn't 100% of the time, more like 50/50

I've tried fiddling with the various windows settings, tried a new mouse, different USB ports, different video card, drivers..etc..etc. I just can't figure out what is interrupting my mouse dragging. It's a Wired Logitech 518 mouse

How To Correctly Generate LangINI By DISM

Oct 14, 2014

I am trying to generate LangINI for:
1. Boot.WIM,
2. Install.WIM,
3. WinRE.WIM (inside Install.WIM)
4. and maybe for main distribution tree (burned into ISO).

Directories (with time chronology of their creation):
ISO is extracted to C:ISO
Boot.WIM is mounted to C:Mount
Install.WIM is mounted to C:Mount (after Boot.WIM is unmounted)
While Install.WIM is mounted, the WinRE.WIM is mounted to C:WinRE

Is this below correct? (after LP are added)

Boot.WIM:
dism /image:C:mount /Gen-LangINI /distribution:C:mount

WinRE.WIM:
dism /image:C:winre /Gen-LangINI /distribution:C:winre

Install.WIM:
dism /image:C:mount /Gen-LangINI /Distribution:C:ISO
dism /image:C:mount /Gen-LangINI /Distribution:C:mount
(both?)

My doubts:
A. I don't believe it, because unpacked WIMs have directories like "Program Files" "Windows"... so "sources" (generated by /Gen-LangINI) directory looks inappropriate. IMHO distribution shouln'd be same as mounting point, but I just mounted vendor's boot.wim it ALSO has Program Files", "Windows"... AND "sources" inside.
B. Also I am not sure about those two commands in Install.WIM. Isn't it overkill

Downloading - Invalid / Corrupt Signature

Nov 20, 2012

So, I've just bought a new laptop for university work and it came with Windows 8 pre-installed.

First thing I did when I booted the laptop up was install Microsoft Word and Norton Security, all fine so far!

And then it comes to downloading iTunes, latest Adobe Flashplayer/PDF reader etc and everytime it will get close to finishing. Around 98% or so, before stopping and saying 'The file download was interrupted'. So I press resume download and it comes up with another error message of 'The signature is invalid or corrupt'. I literally can't download a thing?

Also, I can't play youtube videos either. All I get is the 'buffering' circle, a black screen and a greyed out play button!
