When I transferred from Windows 7, I lost some (very important) personal files. I have searched and tried a few different things and the best I can find is to run a file recovery software which I'm hoping to avoid. I'm running Windows 8 off a Toshiba that so far I have loved but am quickly starting to regret switching to 8.
I have windows 8.1 on a computer I am just trying to start using. However, when I transfer any of my personal files from the old computer they all end up as read-only. I try to change them, but they always revert back to read-only. The directories in the new computer are classified as read-only also, and cannot be changed. How can I solve this?
I got all my windows mail files transferred to my new pc with Windows 8. Since they are in Vista Windows mail format I cannot open them. There does not seem to be an app for this. What I can use to view the contents?
I cannot open photos which I transferred from my old PC as MDI files. I have downloaded an MDI viewer but it is only free for 7 days and cannot get it to print in the right format. I have downloaded an MDI converter which gets the photos on the screen ready to print but won't print unless I pay for a license.
Alright, so I just recently got a new computer that has Windows 8.1, compared to my old one having Windows 7. I tried to transfer all of the files/folders over to the new one over the network and everything worked just fine. However, whenever I tried to modify any of the files that were transferred from the old one such as a png or txt file and overwrite the original through the program, I was always given an error box that said "access denied."
I'm pretty sure this is meaning that I need to get administrator privileges from the old PC, but I'm not sure how I would do that. My only option is to save the version to another folder then move it to where the original one was.
I have a brand new Asus laptop, bought it about 3 weeks ago. After installing some windows updates I restarted the computer and it it would not boot. Keep getting a quick error message 0xc0000001 and restarts. I have tried booting into recovery and doing automatic repair, tried bootrec's /fixboot, /fixmbr, and /rebuildbcd and and get successfully completed but still does not boot in both secure and non-secure boot. I have done a refresh, which completes successfully, but still not booting. The USERS folder in c:Windows.old does not show any users, even though when I click advanced options in recovery it asks to choose a login and enter a password. I have also checked the USERS folder at c: and :cwindows. Remember I did a refresh and not a reset so my pics should still be their. How can i recover my pics and fix the damn boot.
I recently decided to upgrade to Windows 8.1 but in doing so I turned off my computer because it was taking too long to download as I had thought my computer had frozen. When I cut my computer back on, I noticed everything was gone. I had to deal with all that temporary profile mess, but I eventually figured out how to do a system restore. Now here's where things get bad. I am an aspiring young music artist and producer so files are very important to me. Anyways, the restore completed successfully but I did not get any of my files back, my downloads, pictures, documents, or programs!!!!! Is there anyway I can get all of that back?
So, my problem started earlier this week when I tried to scan my Hard Drive using my antivirus system. Never do that.
My Vaoi laptop froze at 27% during the scan, and I had to manually shut it off (hold down the power button) and then restart it. Well, it started the scan again, and got stuck again, so I had to restart it again. The next time, I was able to read this millisecond long message about how to "cancel dskchk by pressing any key", so I did, but then it just took forever to load and opened on an error message saying that windows couldn't load, or something along those lines.
Eventually, after figuring out how to open safe mode, I tried to use a Restore point (which didn't work), Refresh the System (which couldn't complete), do a lot of maintenance scans (none of which worked), consult the internet off of my friend's computer (where I heard about the windows.old folder), and then I was finally forced to use the Vaio Recovery Tool and do an emergency backup onto my new External Hard Drive... It semi-worked, but a lot of my files weren't passed over to the external drive, and I'd like to get them back.
The files I care about are mostly image and document files (jpg, bmp, Word, and Notepad) and the folders they were in were all on my Desktop, but I don't know how to get them back. Some are there, some aren't, it's all just really confusing. So, now, I'm currently running three different Data Recovery programs (Wondershare, EaseUS, and Recuva - all free versions), but I'm basically wondering if there's anything else I can do to fix this. I don't have a windows.old folder on my C drive, but I do on my external hard drive, but it's half empty, like the rest of my folders..
I downloaded and installed Windows 8 Pro several months ago (a year ago?). I used it for several months and was reasonably satisfied with it. But LogMeIn ws not compatible with Windows 8 at the time, so I uninstalled it and returned to Win7.
Since the time I uninstalled Windows 8, the external HD that the setup files were stored on crapped out and I lost everything on it. I do have the activation code. My question is whether or not I can re-acquire a genuine copy of Windows 8 without having to purchase another copy of Windows 8 Pro?
I have stored many videos, contacts, notes, music files and more on my ipad. Unfortunately, I lost my some files on it owing to my wrong operation. Now I am looking for the ways how to get them back quickly, but it is failed. How to recover these lost files from iPad on Mac computer? 100 coins will be added!
PS: I just used Vibosoft iPhone/iPad/iPod Data Recovery tool, it works perfectly, it also work for my iPhone 4s, here is the guide: how to restore lost pictures from iPhone without backup.
I'm trying to recover lost partition and files from external USB hard drive (Maxtor Portable 250GB). I'm using disk Internals sofitware and the software finds the files, but when I try to save them on the drive, each time I get a watchdog, or another BOSD error.
I have had no luck with this at all. As the contacts never transfer from the Cloud to my computer. I assume they are supposed to. Where can I find a good tutorial to guide me thru the process?
I install new os my new laptop that had windows 8. I lost windows 8 in the installation process. I got all the docs came the laptop. Is there anyway to get windows 8 back?
I installed the windows 8.1 update thinking it would just upgrade the system but it looks as though it's done a reinstall. I've now got loads of things not working, my programs have lost lots of there settings and it seems really slow.
I'm currently restoring a true image back up and I'm praying it's going to work , I don't think I'll bother with 8.1 until I reinstall the system from scratch.
I got to the office yesterday and the PC, which I left running and working as usually, had in it's screen the common message saying the computer can't boot any device (strange since the computer was running and it's a message hat appears when booting). After trying to reboot it a couple of times, a message saying "...kernel... file is missing... try advance tools..." was shown. I tried to "refresh" the system.
Anyway, The thing is that after refreshing I have lost much more than the apps. The apps I can retrieve, It will take me half a day to retrieve almost all of the software, but doable. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE DATA??? I have two drivers on the PC, C: (software) and D: (data), and it looks as if my "D:" driver had been erased or something. I see it but I can't open it (properties say it's empty and before being opened has to be formatted). I don't get it....
I installed dropbox to my yahoo e-mail account in order to get some important forms. I allowed changes to be made to my computer the dropbox worked well. Then I tried to pull out the charms bar to shut down my computer and it was GONE!!!! How do I get it back?
Installed Windows 8 on my desktop. Bought another licence (download) for my wife's laptop. Everything went fine until I used netplwiz to change her to the administrator and only user. I thought that went ok but now she is the only user and I'm being prompted for a password everywhere which doesn't work. I can't even run a third party application from a thumb drive. I wouldn't mind reinstalling Windows 8 if that's the fix but I couldn't find the executable after it downloaded and installed. I probably wouldn't be able to execute it anyway without admin privileges. Tried to buy yet a third copy of Windows 8 to reinstall on the laptop and I couldn't even do that without admin privileges.
How to recover or reset the admin password or how to reinstall Windows 8?
I did an upgrade (admittedly, too lazy to want to reinstall all my programs) from 7 ultimate to 8 Pro (both x64) and now only one of my DVD-RW drives shows up in computer or device manager, and scanning for hardware doesn't work. The drive does show in the BIOS however.
I just totally lost the sound of my laptop running on Windows 8. It was okay yesterday and the only thing I did today was checked my email and noticed I kept getting full page of junk ads like your software is outdated, need to update whatever... etc. etc. I ran malwarebytes and avg and found nothing. I ran these also yesterday. Checked my connections ok, and volume not muted.... Where did the sound go? My laptop is only 6 months old.....
I tried to install ubuntu 13.04 x86 on my 16 GB flash drive using the pendrive program. When i restarted my laptop and selected boot from usb drive i then selected install ubuntu on my dva2 using ext4 and "/" on mount. After finishing the process i restarted my laptop and i was keep booting in ubuntu os without even asking me if i wanted to boot in windows. I then removed usb from laptop and the only os that exists is ubuntu. The only thing i noticed is that in the partitioning menu earlier where i selected the 16 GB flash drive, it also said Windows 8 loader next to it something that was a bit strange since my windows was installed on my 240 Gb ssd. I enter in ubuntu without usb and i can see all my files from windows desktop. Is there any possible way to recover my windows?
I got a new windows 8 laptop and I started having a problem that the internet keeps getting lost. To get it back, I disable all of the network adapters and re-enable them.
As a student I had quite a lot of trouble with my previous laptop's battery. It had an autonomy of 4h in the beginning, but one day, while it still had 50%, it suddenly dropped to zero for some reason, and after that incident the battery has never exceeded 50% charge again. So I had to buy another one, but this one also dropped to 2h autonomy after some months, although it still showed 100% charge.
I now have a new laptop, an Asus T300LA, that I chose for its 8h autonomy. As I really wanted to take care of the battery, I searched on the internet how to deal with a li-ion, and learned that I had to drop the charge from 100% to 5% at first use, but should never let it go below 5% as it would permanently lose 20% of its capacity at once. But during the process I was too scared that the charge level shown by Windows would be false and while it would indicate 5% it would actually be less, so I plugged the laptop at 8%; and I was indeed right, as the battery level suddenly switched to 5% when I did so !
Basically I am fearing the infamous 20% battery damage occured without my knowing since the battery level indicated by Windows can't be trusted. The problem is, I don't know how to check it; with my previous laptop (Windows 7), on one battery the damage wasn't shown and it would still indicate 100% charge when filled, whereas on the other one the damage was clearly noticeable as the battery level would never indicate more than 50% even when filled up.
How can I verify if my battery is pristine or not ? If it indeed lost 20% of its capacity, should Windows 8 indicate a completely filled charge as 100% or 80% ?
Also, with maximum screen brightness Windows tells me this: "your current brightness setting might reduce battery life". What does it mean by "battery life" ? The current charge length or the whole time I can use the battery before it's good for junk ?
I have a brand new Xps 15, with 512 GB solid state hard drive.
I tried to install ubuntu in a dual boot mode reserving 60 GB on the hard drive as a partition for linux. The installation went fine but I wasn't able to boot windows anymore, so I decided to restore windows with the factory settings.
After the recovery only 480 GB are visible in the hard drive, whereas before trying to install linux the overall space on the hard drive was more than 500 GB.
How can I restore the previous disk format and space?
I was setting up a signature in windows 8 mail, it requires that the sync email box be checked. I exited the setup screen and the program began to sync to (nothing?) no warning that what was about to happen is the loss of all email in the account. Can I recover my emails from the apps EML? and how. Since I am using Gmail and not clearing the server, all of my incoming email is accessible, My sent mail is not accessible. This seems like a heavy price to pay for setting up a signature.
I would like to add Windows media center to winblues14?
adding serial number to system panel first says you must first activate Windows, then after Windows activation, the add features says "you cant add features to this edition of Windows"
Okay, so this the worst I've ever been locked out of a computer. There's an account on the computer that's been linked to a Microsoft account, however the MS account password is lost and since all the forgot password options have been filled in with gibberish there's really no way to recover it.
Normally I'd say just reinstall the OS, but apparently we need access to this account.
There's no other user accounts whatsoever. Just one administrator account.
So, facts:
- It's linked to Microsoft. - Microsoft account in inaccessible. - Microsoft account cannot be recovered. - There's no backups or anything. - Computer account needs to be accessed unharmed.
Ultimately, I guess we need to actually hack into this account by force and I honestly don't know how to do something going that far because I've never been forced to go that far before. I'm going to guess it's going to involve booting from a pendrive or something.
