I was setting up a signature in windows 8 mail, it requires that the sync email box be checked. I exited the setup screen and the program began to sync to (nothing?) no warning that what was about to happen is the loss of all email in the account. Can I recover my emails from the apps EML? and how. Since I am using Gmail and not clearing the server, all of my incoming email is accessible, My sent mail is not accessible. This seems like a heavy price to pay for setting up a signature.
So, my problem started earlier this week when I tried to scan my Hard Drive using my antivirus system. Never do that.
My Vaoi laptop froze at 27% during the scan, and I had to manually shut it off (hold down the power button) and then restart it. Well, it started the scan again, and got stuck again, so I had to restart it again. The next time, I was able to read this millisecond long message about how to "cancel dskchk by pressing any key", so I did, but then it just took forever to load and opened on an error message saying that windows couldn't load, or something along those lines.
Eventually, after figuring out how to open safe mode, I tried to use a Restore point (which didn't work), Refresh the System (which couldn't complete), do a lot of maintenance scans (none of which worked), consult the internet off of my friend's computer (where I heard about the windows.old folder), and then I was finally forced to use the Vaio Recovery Tool and do an emergency backup onto my new External Hard Drive... It semi-worked, but a lot of my files weren't passed over to the external drive, and I'd like to get them back.
The files I care about are mostly image and document files (jpg, bmp, Word, and Notepad) and the folders they were in were all on my Desktop, but I don't know how to get them back. Some are there, some aren't, it's all just really confusing. So, now, I'm currently running three different Data Recovery programs (Wondershare, EaseUS, and Recuva - all free versions), but I'm basically wondering if there's anything else I can do to fix this. I don't have a windows.old folder on my C drive, but I do on my external hard drive, but it's half empty, like the rest of my folders..
I have stored many videos, contacts, notes, music files and more on my ipad. Unfortunately, I lost my some files on it owing to my wrong operation. Now I am looking for the ways how to get them back quickly, but it is failed. How to recover these lost files from iPad on Mac computer? 100 coins will be added!
PS: I just used Vibosoft iPhone/iPad/iPod Data Recovery tool, it works perfectly, it also work for my iPhone 4s, here is the guide: how to restore lost pictures from iPhone without backup.
I'm trying to recover lost partition and files from external USB hard drive (Maxtor Portable 250GB). I'm using disk Internals sofitware and the software finds the files, but when I try to save them on the drive, each time I get a watchdog, or another BOSD error.
I cannot remove my Windows Live email account so whenever I want to send email, I had to click on the "Gmail" tab first then compose email and I don't want this because it's somehow not efficient.
I use the default Windows 8.1 Mail client but I never used my Windows Live account.
Is there any ways to remove Windows Live email or at least make Gmail as the default email address on Windows Mail?
When I click on email links on websites, instead of my mail program coming up with the address in the "to" line, I get a mail sign in page. To avoid it, I have to right click and copy email address, then go to my mail program and paste it in.
All instructions for adding an e-mail account to the mail app, say to go to Settings and click on accounts. When I click on Settings all I get is Change PC Settings, and there is no account option there.
I just noticed today that my windows 8 mail app (the standard one from ms) was no longer showing me notifications when email arrived. I went over to the app and noticed that the google syncing had changed and required me to re-authenticate my google account to it. That went fine. Then I noticed that my exchange account is now missing from the app (not in the mailbox view, nor is it in the list of accounts). However, when I try to add my exchange account, it says "You've already added this account". Is there anywhere else I can remove the exchange account or somehow get it show up again in the mail app?
I am trying to set up a new Toshiba Satellite C55 laptop. It has Windows 8.1 installed. The mail app has been uninstalled. I can go to the Windows store where the Mail app is a free download, but you have to be registered to download it. They require you to verify your e-mail address as a part of the registration procedure but the only computers I have with that address are running Windows XP so the verify box in the query will not work. In other words I can't set up an e-mail account since I don't have the Mail app and can't down load the free Mail app since I don't have e-mail in a Windows 8 or 8.1 machine.
Getting to grips with windows 8.1 on a new laptop having been used to XP Pro and Outlook Express
Anyway, I have a real bugbear with the mail app. e.g. I receive an email with an attachment, I click on attachment to open it, it opens in desktop (why?), once attachment has been read/filed or whatever and I close/delete it I'm stranded on the desktop (again why?), I then have to go through several button pushes (start/Mail app/mail account/open email) just to get back to where I was when I opened the email originally.
Surely there must be a simpler solution, am I missing something, is there a way to set it up so that when the attachment is closed it takes you straight back to where you were in the mail app?
Or is this just one of those Windows8 'quirks'......
I wasn't aware that I had used an email to get the Windows 8 started but I guess I did. I closed that account and am not able to access it. However, if I want to get into the store, etc. It tells me to log in with that email address. It will not let me change the address in the login screen. How to do I change in on the computer? Where is that setting?
I am trying to add several email accounts to 'Mail' in Windows 8. So far I have successfully added Hotmail, and BT mail. I am now trying to add my 2 Virginmedia NTL accounts using the imap settings shown on the Virginmedia support site but neither of them install correctly...though they do work. The problem is the Folders list on the left hand side shows only Inbox, Flagged, Outbox and then for some very strange reason it lists (Gmail) Folders...see attachment Ntl account.doc.
I have tried deleting these folders but they come back after a few seconds. I have also noticed that 'Mail' must keep details of additional accounts hidden away somewhere as whichever NTL account I create it always uses the first account name I ever entered...'Ntlworld' which was a typo...and all subsequent attempts to create this account have been spelt correctly.
Is their a way to disable the preview pane in the Mail app in Windows 8? My thinking for this is for security reasons..virus etc. I haven't upgraded to 8.1 yet still have 8. Ive done a search but only come up with preview in file explorer not mail..
1) The email app in Windows 8.1 on her laptop just stopped working. She can no longer send or receive emails at all from any of her accounts. She says that she believes it has happened before maybe even a couple times a month.
2) This may or may not be related - The main email address in the app is her work email address from an old job. Whether it's related or not, she wants to undo that and have her primary email address to login or whatnot. She has since deleted all of her other email addresses from the app.
Win 8.1. As the title says: Why aren't the links in my email messages hyperlinked. I am unable to activate some accounts, because even if I Copy and Paste them they don't work. I am using MS Mail!
I tried to add in my yahoo and xnet pop3 mail accounts into the windows 8 email app and apparently pop3 accounts cant be used..
I think i can get my xnet email changed to a imap account and yahoo as well, however from what i understand yahoo imap email doesnt work properly with windows 7 or windows 8 without a 3rd party app of some kind.
Might try the above at some point, for now I will continue to use microsoft office outlook 2007 for my email, it kind of difficult because now my email isnt integrated into everything else.
Windows 8 IE 10 (All recent updates) Like to watch wood working videos on Youtube. No problems before today ,now they will not play. Been reading and some mention of ActiveX and Flashplayer settings. I have done now changes to any settings since all was working fine. What should I be looking at to fix ?
I am new to Windows 8. I emailed myself a .jpg photo as an email attachment (in yahoo email), from a different computer. When I try to save the attached photo to my own computer, the options are to save as "webpage complete" or as "HTML." I don't want to do either of those. I want to save it as a .jpg-format image in a folder of my choice on my computer.
Also, when I click on the attached photo, it opens in some unnamed Windows 8 imaging app that takes up the whole screen. I don't know what I am supposed to do with it (there are no explanations or options, or even any text that tells what the app is called or what it is supposed to be doing), and I can't get rid of it unless I press the keyboard key with the picture of a window on it, and then get back into my browser (Chrome). If I knew the name of this intrusive imaging app, maybe I could uninstall it, or at least reconfigure Windows 8 to make it save images in the format I want them in and in the folder where I want it to save them, so I can manipulate them the way I want to (in my case, with Paint Shop Pro).
I would firstly like to say that I am no computing expert ( quite the opposite actually) and I find Windows 8 extremely confusing. I have set up( eventually) Windows 8 mail to receive mail from an extra email address as well as the initial one e.g [URL], and [URL]. Now, while I can read incoming mail from both, if I reply to mail coming in on the second address, the reply shows up as originating from the first address. How I can reply to an email that came in to the second address with that same address as point of origin?
New Windows 8 machine. Want to keep my POP3 email, so have downloaded Windows Live Mail. WLM receives ok, but will not send. Error screen simply says 'Failed' under Status with no error designation. The WindowsLiveMail.log shows this at the point of the failure: "SMTP [rx] 535 Incorrect authentication data".
Now the weird thing is this: I have a Windows Vista machine running in the same room which also uses Windows Live Mail and it sends just fine. The account properties & settings (ports, checked boxes, login info, etc.) authentication data are identical on both machines.
In addition, the same settings are used in my iPad mail app and it sends just fine. But WLM on Windows 8 just won't send. I have uninstalled WLM and redownloaded it, but the same problem. FYI, my antivirus is Avast, and it is set to not scan outbound mail.
For some reason I can see my Outlook email but when I try to send any emails they automatically get sent to the draft folder and sit there. I also have a Gmail account set up but same problem.
During Windows 8 setup, the only option it gives you for email is...@outlook.com. Once you use it, it asks if there are any other email accts. you would like to import. It worked good. Now I no longer want to import emails from the site. For the life of me I cannot find a way to turn off the Import.
I am getting a Windows 8 tablet and want to set up Gmail on the Windows 8 mail app. I don't have a Microsoft account.
Should I sign up for a MS account using a Hotmail address, or using my Gmail address? What is the advantage in using a Hotmail address in order to access my Gmail. What are the pros & cons?
I'd like to be able to view/send email but not download it onto my tablet, as I use Live Mail on my main PC and want all my downloaded email on that computer.
My Norton trial that came preloaded in my HP laptop was about to expire so I removed it using the Symantec Norton tool remover.
Now I only have IE 11. The Firefox and Chrome browsers won't connect to the internet. I tried system restore a couple of times but that's not working either.
How to get my browsers back. I ran the adware removal tool, AVG scan and malwarebytes. Everything is clean.
I've installed Windows 8.1 Home Premium on my parents laptop and I'm now trying to set up their email account.
It is a non MS account which Windows 8 doesn't seem to allow me to create. I've searched for a solution but they seem to require the Local Group policy to be edited and as far I've researched home premium doesn't include the management function to do so.
Does this mean if you are using Windows 8.1 Home Premium you are tied to using a MS mail account.
I noticed when I send a web page to anyone using Windows default mail program (Outlook) it will send the page as a Url address and not a clickable link. Is there a way to change this? Or should I change defalt mail handler? When I send page links from Chrome or my g-mail account it always sends the page as a link.
I am using windows 8.1 Pro, When I got email from a social network (The social updates and the newsletter) the Mail doesn't show the notification ! but if I got a email from a normal person it shows.
Likes to use the Windows 8 Start Screen that has all the tiles on it. Normally, she clicks on the "Mail" icon to get to her email, but now when she clicks on the icon it doesn't go to her email and instead it goes straight to her desktop. I tried clicking another icon; the "weather" one, and it too goes to the desktop. She told me she downloaded a couple games from iWin a few days ago and I noticed a new toolbar in her browser so I tried disabling that, but no change. I've checked what the default browser is, Internet Explorer (what she normally uses). I also tried making Chrome the default browser but still no change.
