Is it possible to change the background color as well as the scrollbar color with win 8.1? I went to personalize to change the border color, Also can the taskbar color be changed?
View 2 RepliesI actually have no problem with the Win 8.1 Start menu, but the colors of the regular desktop environment are killing me. Namely, the weird, off-off white of the menus. The High-Contrast White option under Personalization gives me the right color for the menu backgrounds but everything else about the theme screams windows 3.1, so I'd rather not resort to using that.
Is there maybe a registry tweak that I can use to change this one little color? I've tried a few things but nothing so far has worked.

Windows 8. I can't find anything except how to change colors via the 'personalization' screen for desktop background etc. You used to be able to change the color of the actual program window background's color but I can't figure it out. Is this not possible anymore?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen using a screensaver that is suppose to have a transparent background (be able to see what is on the desktop) it defaults to the background color chosen for the start screen theme.
An easy example is the bubbles screensaver that comes preloaded, the weird thing is when selected and you preview it, it previews with a transparent background you are able to see what is on your desktop, but when you let it run its time and it pops up on its own it replaces the background with the color theme you chose for your start screen.
How to change it to remain transparent? I've tried changing the background color of the start screen to transparent with Decor8 but the screensaver background still is not transparent.

(Word 2010) I found at least half a dozen methods on the Microsoft Forums for changing Word's "Normal Template" and making the changes permanent. It works for the font and margins, but not for the background color. In fact, when I open a new document and go to "Page Layout > Page Color" it shows that the color I want is already selected, and yet the background of the document is still white!

I get this when trying to change the taskbar/window color in the personalize thing. turning on the Themes service does not work. using msconfig does not work.

There is a screen - I don't know its proper name - it's the screen where you go to choose a user account to log in. This is the same screen you see when you want to 'switch user.'
How do I change the background color of this screen?
Right now the color (white) blends in way too much with everything else on the page, so that it is very difficult to even see the category titles.

Having bought my Acer PC in Spain (where I live) it came with the Spanish version - I've changed the user side to English but the background (?) language is still Spanish - how to change it? Could be difficult in the event of a crash or similar as my knowledge of Spanish is fairly limited.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently built my own PC (I5-4670K) and installed Win 8.1 64 Bit OEM Builder. Installation went fast and easy. Updated all my drivers/win updates in the past 2 hours. Windows 8.1 is activated.
When I go to Taskbar and Navigation properties -> navigation menu -> "Show my desktop background on Start " and "Search everywhere instead of just my apps when I search from the Apps view" are BOTH GRAYED OUT.
When I go to Personalization to choose images for my background nothing happens. Not even windows desktop backgrounds or anything in my picture library gets recognized.
Can keep the scroll bar from vanishing , it is annoying when I am reading something and have to move the mouse to make the bar appear again.

I'm able to scroll through my touchpad then why I'm not able to scroll in one of the prominent apps as a substitute for scrolling. I've to use keyboard arrow keys which is very tedious and laborious.
I've been sorely missing some sort of gesture to be able to scroll automatically to the top or bottom of any page in IE10.
Any way (or is there one already) to gesture to get back to the top so that you don't have to flick the screen repeatedly to scroll to top?
i have a "microsoft wireless mouse 2000" and my pc is running win 8 pro. most of the times after i resume from hibernation the scroll speed is insane! moving the scroll wheel 1mm causes for example the browser to scroll over one page! in scroll settings it shows "roll wheel one click to scroll 3 lines", no matter what i set this to it still scrolls excesivly.. i need a full system reboot to regain control over scroll speed. this was never an issue with win7.

The start screen will only scroll if I left-click and drag the bar at the bottom. clicking the arrows won't work and neither will using my arrow keys to go from app to app (once it hits the side of the screen it goes out of view but the screen doesn't pan to follow it). I am also unable to click the minimize button to see the apps so that i can create column headers for my tile collections. I installed Windows 8 on my laptop a couple of weeks ago and don't have this issue.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell laptop Inspiron 15 3531. When I went to configure the toucpad, the 'Edge Scroll & Zoom' tab is missing. I want to scroll vertically (up and down) on the edge of the pad.
I've tried uninstalling the current touchpad driver(from Device Manager) and then installing the latest version. But it didn't work.
I recently switched from OE to WLM because I purchased a new laptop (Win 8.1). I incorrectly assumed, since OE is about 8 years old, WLM would be far more advanced in every aspect.
A huge annoyance is: whenever I need to find a folder in Storage Folders, instead of keying the first letter of the folder I seek, as with OE, I must scroll down to find it. To make matters worse; all of the Storage Folders are expanded to reveal the sub folders by default. So, as I scroll down, each time, I must manually collapse each expanded folder.
Any way to cause WLM Storage Folders to behave like OE.
I bought the Asus Zenbook Touch (ux31a-bhi5t11) yesterday, and the 2 finger scrolling worked fine at first, but a couple hours later it just stopped working. I can scroll using the touch screen, but not the touch pad now. It's brand new, and I haven't touched any of the settings, so I don't know why it would just quit.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 8.1 , there has been this very strange problem with Windows Media Player where it displays every video which is highly saturated or we can say that it appears very odd. Whereas in the case of VLC, it displays the video appropriately. I have attached the screenshots below. I checked every setting of the Windows Media Player and it is at it's default setting.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having an ongoing issue with Windows 8.1 since I upgraded a few months back.
It's hard to explain but I'll try. Occasionally, say maybe every 20 minutes (have not timed it to see if it's consistent or not), I am working on the desktop and the whole screen will go purple (that's the theme color I chose) for a couple seconds, then when it comes back, my desktop shortcuts are moved to the middle of the screen. It's a bit infuriating as I use my shortcuts (folders, files, programs) quite a bit and would like them to stay where they are.
