View 1 RepliesRight now the color (white) blends in way too much with everything else on the page, so that it is very difficult to even see the category titles.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded Win 8 on my Acer Iconia W3 Tablet (x86) to Windows 8.1. But now I have the problem that in the settings-app and in the righten menu (e.g. the search-function) every text is just a white (or sometimes black) box. In other Apps and on the desktop-applications the text is displayed correctly; and before I have installed Windows 8.1 everything was fine too. Below are two screenshots which should describe the problem.
View 2 Replies View Related(Word 2010) I found at least half a dozen methods on the Microsoft Forums for changing Word's "Normal Template" and making the changes permanent. It works for the font and margins, but not for the background color. In fact, when I open a new document and go to "Page Layout > Page Color" it shows that the color I want is already selected, and yet the background of the document is still white!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI really like some of these apps but the font is too darn small. I already have my dpi at 150%, so I don't want to increase that anymore.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis problem happens to me right after the installation of Stardock's Start8 or another app called StartIsBack. It could be those 2 apps or it could be something else I don't know.
The problem is, after a reboot, all of a sudden, the icons lose their image and they just become blank white files, if I right click on a file for example to Run As Administrator or anything else, the whole context menu doesn't appear and Explorer just freezes until I force restart
This happened to me in 8 diff. formats / fresh install I finally gave up and just reverted back to Windows 7. Could it be those start menu replacement apps or perhaps some dodgy windows updates?
When I highlight text in Word 2010, the background of the highlight becomes white and the text itself becomes dark blue. Is there a way to change it in Regedit (or elsewhere)?
I tried fiddling with colors here, but no luck:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Control Panel > Colors
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Control Panel > Desktop Colors
I can't seem to find where you can increase the size of the fonts used within the tiles on the start menu in 8.1. Is it possible to do, and if so, where would I do it at?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWindows 8 comes with a whole lot of fonts pre-installed, quite a few of which I do not need and are merely cluttering up the place. I would especially like to get rid of the specialised fonts for Japanese, Chinese, Hebrew, Arabic, Indian etc, etc & so 4th.
However, for many of them, when I try to delete them, I get the message that they are "protected system fonts". Surely, there aren't that many system fonts? Can we not get rid of or hide these fonts any more? Surely they are an unnecessary drain on resources, and boot-time extenders?
I installed Windows 8.1 , there has been this very strange problem with Windows Media Player where it displays every video which is highly saturated or we can say that it appears very odd. Whereas in the case of VLC, it displays the video appropriately. I have attached the screenshots below. I checked every setting of the Windows Media Player and it is at it's default setting.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWindows 8. I can't find anything except how to change colors via the 'personalization' screen for desktop background etc. You used to be able to change the color of the actual program window background's color but I can't figure it out. Is this not possible anymore?

is there a way to add our favourite programs(.exe files) to this part?
When using a screensaver that is suppose to have a transparent background (be able to see what is on the desktop) it defaults to the background color chosen for the start screen theme.
An easy example is the bubbles screensaver that comes preloaded, the weird thing is when selected and you preview it, it previews with a transparent background you are able to see what is on your desktop, but when you let it run its time and it pops up on its own it replaces the background with the color theme you chose for your start screen.
How to change it to remain transparent? I've tried changing the background color of the start screen to transparent with Decor8 but the screensaver background still is not transparent.
Attached are the images of how it should look and how it actually looks.

On startup, all I get is a blank white screen. I can't see anything. But, I can plug in a monitor and do everything else just fine.
I tried twiddling the drivers, but maybe I did it wrong or overlooked the right one(s). I tried a system restore, but that threw an error on restart.
I even dove in with my screwdriver to make sure no plugs got knocked loose (don't worry, warranties were long voided).

I've been having an ongoing issue with Windows 8.1 since I upgraded a few months back.
It's hard to explain but I'll try. Occasionally, say maybe every 20 minutes (have not timed it to see if it's consistent or not), I am working on the desktop and the whole screen will go purple (that's the theme color I chose) for a couple seconds, then when it comes back, my desktop shortcuts are moved to the middle of the screen. It's a bit infuriating as I use my shortcuts (folders, files, programs) quite a bit and would like them to stay where they are.

There is a screen - I don't know its proper name - it's the screen where you go to choose a user account to log in. This is the same screen you see when you want to 'switch user.'
How do I change the background color of this screen?
My Yoga 2 13 has a slight green tint to yellow. So I tried to do a color calibration. I decreased the amount of green with the slider. But, when I checked the yellow color, it looked the same. So, I went back to the color calibration and the slider was back at full scale. I tried several times and always get the same result. The slider always gets set back to full scale.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi am running windows 8 on my Toshiba Satellite L 300 , it was running smoothly and all its features are good too. but suddenly the screen turns out a solid color based on the color which was on desktop ( for example if i am having a yellowish theme, the solid color will be yellow ) .. i have seen a lot white and light yellow color the most when the screen change . after the color change the total system will be unresponsive, the only way i find is to press the power button for 2 seconds, ( ya full power off ) ... again if i start the system, may be it will work perfectly for a long time but suddenly again it happened..
the problem start before two weeks, i thought it may be due to some software error and i done a full system reboot and i don't have any program installed except windows 8, but still it exists. .. now i am sure that problem is somewhere in windows OS or my hardware ... i am unable to find whats going on ..
I've noticed that when booting to the Start Menu on powering up that there's now a white border around the top left tile. This border can be moved to any adjacent tile by using the relevant keyboard arrow keys.
My other PC's only show the border AFTER an arrow key is pressed which is classed as the correct default behaviour after a bit of Googling. I
I am sure it is something I have done but now when I select the Mail app in the Start page it loads to a white screen. Sometimes I think Windows 8 is too intuitive.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've just upgraded to 8.1 and I have seen this exact problem on a different laptop of similar specs (my specs should be in my profile).
I use a custom theme with dark colors. I like dark background and light text. The problem is that very often when I open a new explorer (like My Computer) or browser window (like Firefox), the whole background of the window/frame becomes white for a very brief period before showing the actual content of the window and assuming the dark background color that I assigned.

A while ago, my PC was having some lag issues that made the computer practically unusable. I found out in msconfig that I had almost all services running. I disabled many of the services, and I made sure not disable the necessary ones (i.e, Windows Audio.) I restarted my computer and there was a red circle with a white "X" over the audio icon. I clicked on the icon. A window named "Playing Audio" opened. On the window was a bar similar to the one shown while loading/downloading something.
Above the bar said "Detecting Problems" and then "Scanning for hardware changes...". This went on for about 10 seconds. After this, the window changed. At the top in blue was "Troubleshooting has completed". Under that was "The troubleshooter made some changes to your system. Try attempting the task you were trying to do before." In the center of the window was "Problems found-Hardware changes might not have been detected".
In the search bar, I typed "Manage audio devices". When I opened it up, the window told me that there were no audio devices installed. I have checked in Device management under "sound, video and game controllers" That I have sound drivers installed (AMD High Definition Audio Device & High Definition Audio Device.) I have tried multiple times to uninstall/reinstall the drivers to no avail.
Some icons no matter where they are located don't display there actual picture but a white paper instead. Most of the time it only happens if I put it in a folder.
And sometimes even on the desktop.
I would really not like to have to set the icon up manually, because Windows is supposed to do that on its own, and also because they are adding up!
Now for the testing done so far. It seems that for the desktop problem if you copy instead of right click "send to" then the icon will show up when you paste it, but it will say "Copy" in the name on the icon, if I edit it and delete the word "Copy" and click out of it to save then the icon reverts back to the paper. This trick has no effect with the folders however.
It actually has "Copy" written in it but the text is to long so you just see the "..."
Also this issue only happens to the shortcuts of the actual file, and only on random files. If I were to go to Program Files and find the folder then "Move" the icon to the desktop then it works fine.
But in the folder that contains the actual file then icon is missing, it only appears when I "Move" it to the desktop.
I noticed yesterday that there is a very fine thin line on the left side of my desktop. In the screen shot you can barely make it out, but you will be able to once you see ot from the left corner of task bar. it does not appear when i open a browser or a folder or even start menu. It only shows on the desktop screen and is really annoying. I tried disabling some odd services and restarted the computer as well, but still no luck.
P.S: Screen shot is below.
I guess I have that white screen virus. I think I could handle removing it but I need the desktop and safe mode is stopping lots of tricks. But I cannot get to anything.
Sys restore fails everytime.
how the heck do I fix this.Without reinstall.
