Windows 8.1 Showing Refresh Rates Not Available For Display Device
Feb 25, 2014
Windows 8.1 now displays refresh rates that are not available for my TV and monitor, which creates a big problem with software that likes to automatically change refresh rates. Re-installing the same or newer drivers does not work, no display device drivers exist for this TV & monitor, re-installing DirectX also didn't work...
I've been having a network problem since Refreshing Windows 8.1 Pro Update 64 bit on one of my PC's. I've been able to see other PC's OK but unable to see some devices (eg Diskstation NAS etc) on my network (all connected using Ethernet cables).
I've tried all sorts of things to cure the problem and all to no avail.
I just noticed that in Services there was no Computer Browser so I guess this is my problem. I copied over the browser.dll file from another PC (using the same operating system) to the Windows/System32 folder but after a reboot there was still no Computer Browser in Services. I ran a couple of scripts I found, a registry hack and something else to restore the Computer Browser then I uninstalled the Client for Microsoft Networks, rebooted and re-installed the client.
Now when I look in Services it's listed as Browser instead of Computer Browser and in the Description column it says "Failed to read description. Error Code: 15100. The error code has now changed to error code 2.
What I can try next other than a clean re-install?
installed a new ssd with a fresh copy win 8 on my mb sabertooth fx990 r2.0 but for some reason it showing up under safely remove hardware and eject media ..
So, it used to be okay on Windows 7, but now the iPhone icon is not showing up in Windows Explorer or in "Devices and Printers".
[URL] ..... Picture of my computer with no iPhone image. [URL] ..... Devices and Printers (See the Kodak icon? That's how I want my iPhone 4S' icon to be)
OS is Windows 8.1 Pro with all the latest updates.
an error message in Device Manager when installing the network attached storage drives like MyBook Live, the drives themselves seem to work fine and i have access to them (most of the time) on my home netwok, however i keep getting that little yellow triangle telling me that something is wrong, specifically:
the device manager error code is This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Last part of the message, (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I get this, in Device Manager, and I have searched for an answer on the net. Also it is a Code 43. I went through my laptop, with an HP Technician this morning, I might add at a cost of 5p/minute, for 30 odd minutes. He has said that because I had gone over to Windows 8.1 and the recovery discs I made will not load, to put back in Windows 8. I have to send the laptop back for re-installing the OS, because Windows 8.1 do not have the update for my problem. Also the R.H. USB socket has a failure ID:0GAPTK-6T7716-MFPWWK-8D1Q03. I personally think that this is all what the problem is. a duff USB. Is this a cop-out???
Does Windows 8.1 having driver WHQL problems?
I only found out the problem with the usb when I tried to download a Mobi file to a Kindle for my wife. The other usb's work OK.
I can not found Imaging Device option , due to which my integrated webcam is not working ... I am Using Dell inspiron 5520 , I have tried millions of things ...
i used to use windows 8.1 for about a year and it was running well but lately my laptop became slow i used refresh PC and now i use windows 8 the problem here is that ican't upgrade to 8.1 unless i install all previous updates when i try to download them via windows update it just stucks at 0% i tried many times and tried windows update diagnostic and this was the result but still no response it's 0%
i have a new laptop (intel core i5 @ 2,6GHz, 4GB RAM) running windows 8 but because i had some issues such as:
store couldn't work right, task manager needed more than 2 minutes to open, shutting down needed more time than windows 7, i decided to make a refresh (the function of windows, you can use to reset them somehow without losing your files). It goes slow all the time, whenever i click anything. I've downloaded and installed all of the updates.
Notice that i have only the basic programs running and mcafee (i know it's "heavy" programme but i didn't have problem before the refresh)
I am having an issue with the amount of time that it takes for this to complete. I have heard that it can take a bit of time, but my laptop(Acer Aspire V3-771G-9809 Notebook Intel Core i7 3632QM (2.20GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M) has been stuck on 60% for over 24 hours. I am wondering if this is something to be concerned about or do you think everything will be okay?
"Microsoft has introduced two interesting and very useful features in Windows 8. Refresh PC and Reset PC are the two new features that fix all Windows issues by refreshing settings or resetting everything. These features allow you set your Windows 8 settings to their defaults, or reset Windows 8 to factory settings (original settings) by deleting data and installed apps.
Though most of us have the Windows 8 installation media, it’s always a good idea to make necessary changes to the default settings so that you can Reset Windows 8 without inserting the installation or recovery media."
I was getting repeated blue screens of death. My laptop would crash and then restart only to crash again within 2 minutes, this just kept happening. So I figured I would just factory reset my laptop because it should have a recovery image on it since there is no optical drive. The factory reset failed at 64%, so I did it again and it failed in the exact spot again. Now the computer won't boot up. It says automatic repair which ends up failing and it gives me 2 options to either shut down or go through the advanced options. Is there anyway I can download windows 8 onto an external drive and install it like that? I have no clue what to do at this moment.
I went to the recovery section. Advanced startup. After I clicked on refresh my screen went black..and it's been already 20 minutes and I don't see anything at all..only a black screen..
I need to perform a System Refresh against once of my computers. However, when I try to launch the System Refresh option, it claims Windows is missing some files to do so and to insert a Windows installation media or recovery media to claim those files.
Here's the trip-up: I created recovery media on another Windows 8.1 computer and that STILL didn't work (said something about the media not being valid, despite being generated in the same OS). How do I get this to work?
I did do my homework on this issue and apparently having done the Windows 8.1 upgrade through the Windows Store strips out its ability to do a Refresh/Reset unless an ISO is present (of which you don't have one of course because of how you did the upgrade; chicken and egg problem right there). Two of my computers were done as Windows Store upgrades but my Ultrabook was not (for that I did a complicated jig that allowed me to keep all my installed Windows 8.1 Preview software while still moving to the Windows 8.1 final build). However it doesn't seem to matter as even the Ultrabook, despite its unique upgrade path, still fails to start a Refresh (should I want to do one there) so the problem is all over my Windows 8.1 machines.
PC was running a little sluggish so decided to refresh it! I don't ever remember ever getting a bsod on Windows 8.
However it seems to be a regular thing since the refreshing the pc! it swill crash any anytime for any reason however I have yet to complete a full movie mpeg using the Handbrake software to reencode a movie file it will crash way before it is due to finish I've included the zipped Event log Admin.extv file ...
I recently purchased a Acer Desktop PC, well recently was in Feb/March of this year.
I tried to refresh the system. All worked fine until I rebooted the system. After I input my log on password in it a screen comes on saying that windows cannot be activated at this time. Please try later or input the product key. Also I cannot download any updates, I presume because of the activation.
The Pc was purchased New and had windows 8.1 installed with no installation disks or product keys in sight. After much searching I managed to get the product key, manually input it and Nada, Nothing! It would not accept it.
so about a month ago I needed to do a refresh on my Asus Laptop which had Windows 8.1 (64bit). I bought this computer back in September of 2013. It was a simple refresh that saved my files and such. The reason I had to refresh was for some odd unknown reason, League of Legends would not go to the login screen, as it would fail. I tried everything to fix that problem, and nothing worked. So, I did a refresh.
Now, I have Windows 8, and my updates wont install at all. I have tried to do a windows update repair and it doesn't fix all the problems, tried to do a clean boot install. Nothing works as of right now. My computer restarts every 2 days and fails.
"Failed Configuring Windows Updates - Reverting Changes" < something of that sort. Every time. I checked if any of the windows updates have gone through, and almost all of them have not.
I have a brand new Asus laptop, bought it about 3 weeks ago. After installing some windows updates I restarted the computer and it it would not boot. Keep getting a quick error message 0xc0000001 and restarts. I have tried booting into recovery and doing automatic repair, tried bootrec's /fixboot, /fixmbr, and /rebuildbcd and and get successfully completed but still does not boot in both secure and non-secure boot. I have done a refresh, which completes successfully, but still not booting. The USERS folder in c:Windows.old does not show any users, even though when I click advanced options in recovery it asks to choose a login and enter a password. I have also checked the USERS folder at c: and :cwindows. Remember I did a refresh and not a reset so my pics should still be their. How can i recover my pics and fix the damn boot.
I upgraded Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 via the Windows store and so. Do not have a DVD or any media to do a refresh or recovery ... I need to refresh Windows 8.1 as many of my apps do not open.
I tried this from this site here. All went fine but when i went to refresh windows cannot find any media again.
How to: REFRESH your Windows 8.1 installation without installation media.
I used the Windows 8 Refresh and like many others I seem to have lost all the important files. Where as I could simply connect my Camera and it would automatically connect now it does't . AVG, I Tunes, Abi all lost. How can I restore the automatic connection etc? I can't even use the tool bar AVForums when writing a message?
For some reason Windows 8 Pro keeps corrupting after installing updates i have used the DVD to refresh in the past but i can't boot into Windows so i can refresh without media ie copying install.wim to C drive
I'm dual booting Windows 8 Pro With Windows 7 VHD.
I cant boot to my windows 8. As I open my laptop it says "preparing automatic repair" >> daignosing your pc >>> attempting repairs>>> then it was stuck and cant proceed to desktop.
i tried to open advance setting by pressing "F8" then advance settings option appears. and i tried to a troubleshoot then chose>>
REFRESH YOU PC --- "theres a problem refreshing your pc" RESET YOUR PC ---- "theres a problem reseting you pc" AUTO REPAIR ---- cannot repair
Right now i want to reformat my ASUS laptop with pre installed windows 8 but i dont know what to..
I had been using my Dell Inspiron 15R 5521 with the factory installed Windows 8 Single Language version with a 1 TB Hard Drive. Its been over an year, i have been using it.
I used to install my programs in the C: Drive and separate my project related files, mp3s, etc in the D: drive so should their be any virus attack or anything unexpected, i could just format the C: Drive and have all my applications re-installed, which is no big deal for me.
Yesterday I had a very unexpected thing go down. My laptop started acting funny, it started restarted on its own over and over again and goes to the big blue screen notifiying me that the laptop had to be restarted.
Since i was under notion my D: Drive is safe, and the worse thing that could happen would a virus attack on the C: drive, i decided to refresh my PC because it was doing all sorts of weird stuff.
After refreshing my PC, I lost the entire D: drive.
Right now, my D: drive is my DVD drive. I can't figure out how to recover the other drive and its files. My Refreshing i had taken a backup as requested by the wizard but i couldnt view what all files are being taken as backup.
Looks like, it has only taken the backup of my C: Drive.
