Why Is Administrative Tools Not Showing
Oct 11, 2013When clicking administrative tools in control panel it says location not available. The other icons in control panel work. Did it get moved or can it be added back in?

Can't Hide Administrative Tools From Start Screen
Jun 9, 2014I have a Windows 8.1 system with 3 user accounts all with Administrative rights. 'Show administrative tool' setting is at 'No' on all of the user accounts but the tools still show up. I have tried everything from the thread listed below but still can't figure it out.

After that I tried to find directory myself, and found it in C:usersUserNameStart MenuProgramsAdministrative tools, but there is no any files. What to do now?
Windows 8 Freeze When Using Pro Tools 10?
Nov 13, 2013I've had my windows 8 computer for audio production for about 3 months, as has been reasonably stable. However, lately, it just will seize when using Pro Tools 10, and the only solution is to restart. I've looked through the event log, and nothing particularly stands out, apart from the obvious unexpected shutdowns. I solved it previously by system restoring, but Windows being Windows has removed the restore point that I used last time, and so now I'm at a bit of a loss.

Jul 8, 2014I have had BSOD problems on and off since I got this machine, but recently, it only happens after running my Pro Tools software for a little while, usually about 10-15 minutes in (Pro Tools 11.2, but it also happened similarly with PT 9.0.6). The program slows, stutters and freezes, eventually going to a BSOD with the error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL .
My "workaround" has been to use a different software solution (StudioOne), which seems to work flawlessly, but I would really like to use the more professional and expensive software that I own and paid really good money for.
I have tried several "fixes" such as running "sfc /scannow" several times along with the DISM command line repairs, always with errors unresolved. Attached is my SF file, zipped and renamed to my forum username.
How To Get Administrative Rights For Program Data
Jan 15, 2014I have a lot of problems with installing different application like Adobe Reader, Microsoft Mathmatics, it keeps saying I don't have permission to write to ProgramData.
I have tried giving myself adminsitrative rights through the security tab and using the tool Take Ownership. It just wont let me install.
(With microsoft mathematics I have to abort the installing because I can't create a shortcut, because I don't have administrative rights.)
Is there anyway that for gives me administrative rights for all eternity? Because having problems installing a standard programs is getting tedious!

Administrative Privileges To Complete Uninstall?
Sep 5, 2013I am trying to Uninstall some old junk. Everything is uninstalling fine except one program. When I try to uninstall I get the message asking if I want to allow the program to make changes to my hard drive. When I click "No" I get the following message: "You must use administrative privileges to complete uninstall, please try again."
So what does this mean, and how do I use these administrative privileges? By the way, I am the administrator.

Nov 20, 2012My computer is setup with two hard drives. My primary is a 120gb SSD and my secondary is a 1tb SATA. I use my secondary for all my data. Many times when I try to set a program to use that hard drive for storage, for example my camera software, it tells me I cant because I need administrative privileges. The same thing happened why I try to set my wifes iTunes account to store data on the secondary hard drive. We both have administrative rights so I don't understand whats going on. I don't want to go back to Windows 7 because I actually like Windows 8, but if this type of problem continues I just might.

Sep 10, 2013I recently upgraded to windows 8, and for some reason within the control panel, I click any options that have the admin shield icon next to them, when i click them, absolutely nothing happens.
And I can't delete any folders from programdata/program files/x86 because it "requires administration action".
Also when removing items from the "uninstall program list" it requires administration action, i say yes, and nothing happens.
Yet, running program's as admin from the desktop, seems to work.

Sep 15, 2014I have just done a clean install of 8.1 on my old MacBook Pro as I broke the screen on my normal laptop. I could only afford to give 40GB to this new installation so I'm quite tight for space.
I've always used [URL] .... to check for disk usage but in my case it is not useful as it shows size of items not the size on disk. I have to keep my OneDrive files on-line only to save space but as they are reported as part of used disk space I am seeing 150% of my disk space is used which isn't useful really. In Disk Management I can see it is only 59%.
Any utility like WinDirStat that shows size on disk?

Jul 5, 2014I have pasted some English alphabet OpenType font files into control panel / appearance and personalisation / fonts but they do not show up in the fonts folder. If I try to paste the files again it tells me "the gotham light file font is already installed - do you want to replace it?"
So if the font files are installed why can't I see them in the fonts folder?
I have tried unchecking "hide fonts based on language settings" but that does not seem to work. The fonts do not show up in Microsoft Word or Adobe CS6 and I get the same problem on my Windows 7 machine.

All Of Text Files Are Showing With Par In Them
Sep 15, 2014 I use the Commandline with just about everything I do on my laptop, often utilizing batch scripts that I've written, from editing, renaming, moving, timestamping, exif manipulation of my image files to SET-ting variables etc..
There remains quite a bit of internal commands that I'm not familiar with. One of them being the "sort" command of which I think may be responsible for my current issue.
I read a little about it via the "/?" command then gave it a little input until it occurred to me from the returns that command was supplying of which were no returns at all, that I was not doing things right so I got bored and went onto something else. It seems that since that time, all my text files have had "par" appended to them. and I don't know how to correct this.
At one point It looked like this would only happen if I opened them from the command prompt but then noticed "par" was there if I double clicked the text file. Is this something to do with that "Sort" command or is it something else all together? And, how in the heck can I fix it because it's really getting on my nerves as I'm creating some Tutorials pages utilizing "Choice" and "More" with cmd.exe being the viewer and every time I format some text, get it all prettied up for the tut program command muffles it up with that damn "par"!
Folder Isn't Showing Partitions Other Than C?
May 25, 2013I've got a laptop with two NTFS partitions on it; one for Windows 8, and another for storage of random things. Both are NTFS-formatted, and they're on a basic disk.
The problem is: When I open the "Computer" window, it only shows me the C: drive that I'm running Windows from. Other things are there... the DVD-RW, network folders, other computers on the net, etc. But the H: drive (the other NTFS partition I use for random storage) isn't there. HOWEVER..... if I go up to the address bar and type in "H:" and hit <Enter>, it takes me to that drive, and the H: drive suddenly appears in the folder-pane on the left of the window.
It does the same thing for any USB drives I plug in. I can type their drive letters into the address bar, and then it'll take me to that drive and it's icon will show up in the left-hand folder pane. But then, when I navigate away from that drive, it disappears again.
It's like Windows is hiding them from me unless I know the address, kinda like how putting "$" at the end of a shared folder name does it with network shares.

Showing Content Within Explorer
Jul 5, 2014Ok since Windows 8 there was a cool feature within windows explorer that would show the content of a shortcut folder at the bottom without having to click on it.
Then 8.1 disabled the feature and hidden the feature really well. It took some time doing, actually it was probably more of a fluke, but I was able to turn on the feature again.
But now it was some how rested and the feature has been disabled again, and I can't find it.
What the feature is called, all I know is that if you open up your file explorer go to either of your Documents / Music / Pictures / Video folder, it then would show the contents of your shortcut folder from your other hard drive. The view at the top, lets say you went to pictures, would show all the folders that you have in the Pictures. You'd have a description above the folders that says "Pictures (how many folders you have)" and below that the file extension. Below that you would have the "(The name of your shortcut) (how many files/ folders you have)," the extension, and then the content that are within the Shortcut all within the same explorer.

Aug 12, 2013Iam running 8pro 64 bit. when I open an file explorer window, sometimes there is everytihg, but most of the time, there is just "desktop" and it is searching.I have to manually right click and open new explorer to get it to show all drives and locations. Also, when I get into a window with movies or pictures, all the files are white, no thumbnail! I have no virus and the installation is new and it is from the Microsoft site. all updates are installed.

Folder Options - View ....however, there is no option there to check show Thumbnails. I believe this option should be there at the top, but it isnt.
I also went to Properties of My Computer, Advanced, Performance. It is checked there to show Thumbnails.
But for whatever reason, I only see icons when I should see thumbnails. And yes, I have changed the view to Medium, large, extra large.
Setup Installation :: HD Not Showing Up In Computer
Jan 13, 2013I have 2 HD's in my PC, yet I can only access one. Never had this problem before when formatting in W7.
When formatting i delete all partitions and create new ones. The thing is windows creates 3 extra partitions with my first one (recovery - about 300MB, system - about 100MB and MSR - Microsoft reserved about 128MB) and 1 extra partition with my second one (also MSR - about 128MB).
So i then have 4 partitions made by MS and 2 partitions i made myself (partition 0 and 1).
The next thing i do is select partition 0 and resume the setup.
When i check my HD's under "Computer" (dutch version of Windows). Only one HD shows up.
