Jul 6, 2014I just did a clean install of 8.1. The first install didn't ask me to fill a password. It just flashed the sign in with my picture and went into windows destop. With the reinstall I must have did something different when setting it up. Now, Theres a splash screen with some sort of windows default, with the time in big letters on the bottom left and a small icon I have to click on. Then it brings me to that screen with my picture, with my hotmail email address, and now I have to type in my hotmail password, then it goes into windows desktop. I do not want to do this. I want to turn on the computer come back a minute later, and theres my desktop. I found this website [URL] .... and tried the steps there but It seems there really isn't an answer for me and I'm a little gun-shy in doing whats in that page to allow me to log on to desktop without a pass word.
I really don't want to set up another user account and I don't want to be nagged by a new password and of course the famous you don't have administrator access in the future. I just want to turn on the computer wait a minute see my picture flash at me and then automatically to the desktop.

Mar 6, 2013I've had my Windows 8 computer for several months... it's been working really well, absolutely no problems.
But today... when I turned on my computer... I signed into my account like always (the only admin account on the computer)... and it keeps signing me into a temporary profile instead.
A balloon pops up in the corner, telling me it's a temporary account and to try again later or something.
I restarted the computer about five times... but still... it takes me to a temporary account, rather than my real account.

Nov 8, 2012i have problem, my hp pavilion dv5 have 1280x800 screen and i cannot split screen in windows 8 like on screenshot. I know i must have min.1366x768 screen but maybe there is option to unlock this option in lower resolution.

Jun 28, 2013Me and my girlfriend both have recently bought new laptops that came with Windows 8 installed (HP Pavilion) but wiped the drive and installed Ubuntu straight away without booting Windows 8.
Now that 8.1 is out we want to give it a chance. I see I can download 8.1 preview from Microsoft but it comes with a product key, so I'm guessing that it will expire once 8.1 is officially released, but both laptops had Windows 8 preinstalled so they should have an embedded product key, correct?
Is is possible to install 8.1 preview and get it to use the embedded product keys, or do I have to buy a HP recovery disc and use that to install Windows 8 on both laptops, then update both to 8.1 through the store?
Also, if I was to buy a Windows 8 DVD in store (only about 20 more than a HP recovery disc), could I use that to install Windows 8 on both laptops (using the embedded product keys), and then use the product key that came with it to upgrade a family member to Windows 8?
Can't Activate Windows 8 On HP Pavilion DV6-6047cl
Jan 27, 2013two weeks ago I had a hard drive failure on the stated laptop. I installed an OCZ ssd and reinstalled windows 7 from a retail family pack. I used the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) windows key from the sticker on the HP laptop. This activated no problem. I purchased this laptop new at SAMS club.
I also upgraded two desktop computers to windows 8 that also had this family pack copy of windows 7 installed on them (about a year ago). Both of these computers activated with no problem. I also installed a separate windows media player upgrade on each computer.
I then upgraded the laptop to windows 8. I also upgraded it to windows media player.
I noticed that the key provided during the upgrade was the same provided by Microsoft during the upgrade of one of the desktop computers.
The validation was successful at first.A day later I got a message stating that windows was not genuine. I then attempted to purchase another key and Microsoft stated that I could not purchase a key in my current country or region (I am in Wisconsin).
The website stated that I had to validate windows by purchasing a validation pack at a local retailer.
Why cant I validate windows? I have the COA still attached and nothing is different about the computer except the replaced hard drive.

May 24, 2013The power options on my computer have stopped working. The screen does not dim or turn off automatically and the computer does not sleep automatically.
I bought my HP Pavilion 20 all in one desktop two weeks ago and then power options stopped working a week ago everything else seems OK. I looked in the console and "balance" is checked, going further, all the times are set (display dimmed 5 mins, turn off display 10 mins, put computer to sleep 30 mins). A day or so before this happened I replaced the standard (rather cheap) wired keyboard and mouse with a Logitech k360 Keyboard and m326 mouse (both wireless).
I can put the computer to sleep using the keyboards sleep button. I also temporarily changed the "Put Computer to Sleep" section in Power Options console to "never" when "Windows Photo Gallery" needed to update the face recondition on my photos transferred from my old computer (it took over 24 hours). After "Windows Photo Gallery" had finished I changed it back to 30 mins and since then no power options.

We are using RDP to connect to our App server. The App server is running on Windows 2008.
When i try to connect to the server the client is showing "Because of Protocol error the session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again "
We have other Windows 8.1 machines connecting remotely to the server without any issues. Tried a lot of fixes from MS but no use.
Audio :: HP Pavilion - Can't Connect To Bluetooth Speakers
Mar 9, 2013I have an HP Pavilion dm4 3050 laptop. I have spent a lot of time trying to fix my bluetooth problems since updating to 8.
I go into add a device in a the CP and the machine finds the bluetooth speakers and I add them. I then right click them-> sound settings, then see my speakers below the default device speakers. They are listed as disconnected so I right click them and try to connect but they won't connect. I have updated the Intel bluetooth drivers but the speakers still won't connect.
HP Pavilion Laptop Battery Dies With No Warning
Aug 27, 2014A couple months ago, my laptop stopped giving me a low battery warning. It would just die when the battery was too low. This wasn't a big deal a couple months ago because I was on summer vacation, but now that school is in session, I will lose my notes and homework without much chance to revive. I have tried adjusting the warning levels in the advanced power settings, but that did nothing.

Dec 16, 2012HP Pavilion dv6-6110us Entertainment Notebook PC laptop running windows 8 upgraded alright. Left the computer on overnight now the sound will not play through the computer speakers unless something is plugged into the headphone or microphone jack. But will play through external speakers... but not the headphones. Its IDT codec and for sound options i have Speakers and Headphones (IDT high definition audio codec) and Communication Headphones (IDT high definition audio codec). Im wondering if there is a driver missing yet using driver pack Solutions and Driver reviver nothing shows up missing. For my Playing options i only get options that are for plugging into the left side of the pc (mic and 2 headphone jacks) but when i plug in and leave the setting on speakers and heaphones it plays out the pc speakers and not the headphones unless i change to the other audio setting for headphone communications set. It has no options for just speakers or playing out of speakers without the headphones needing to be plugged in....

Sep 15, 2014I have a HP Pavillion PC which is connected to my wireless network due to restrictions in the house. I have been having some issues which i suspect are related. Nearly every day now i either lose wireless connection, even though other devices near by have no issues or my outlook stops sending/receiving. I just get the progress bar and nothing happens. The only way i can solve these issues is by a restart which is starting to get tedious now.
I have looked through my error logs and i seem to have this event that pops up...
Closing a TCP socket with local port number 50513 in process 1008 is taking longer than expected. The local port number may not be available until the close operation is completed. This happens typically due to misbehaving network drivers. Ensure latest updates are installed for Windows and any third-party networking software including NIC drivers, firewalls, or other security products.
I have updated my wireless card drivers to the very latest i can obtain. I have even tried plugging in a usb Wireless Belkin adapter and still no joy.
I really want to avoid a full windows reinstall but i cannot carry on like this.
Cannot Set UEFI Boot Order To CD Windows 8.1 HP Pavilion

I have Secure Boot turned off. I have Legacy Boot turned on, but do not think that is needed.
This link gives me instructions to boot from CD but they seem not to make sense from No 2... [URL] .....
In that at 5-6-7 it seems to require me to select the CD then boot to Windows from HDD then restart and do the same again, but this time select CD again, or something??
I expected to set the device, then restart the computer and it would boot from the device, not restart Windows as described. I was able to boot from a WinPE 4b CD.
I then decided to try changing boot order in the UEFI BIOS. From then on the HP (F9) described menu showed 'Windows Boot Menu' only under UEFI Devices. I could only boot from CD after putting the order back to 'Windows Boot menu' at the top of the order list; after which, as long as the CD was in the drive the (F9) list showed the CD drive as selectable to boot from.
HP Pavilion G6 Windows 8.1 Update Causing Hangs?
Mar 26, 2014My issue is that I have a HP Pavilion G6 2399-sa and it is currently running the HP OEM version of windows 8, I have previously updated to windows 8.1...twice in fact and every time that I have updated to windows 8.1 I get random freezing issues. These freezing issues occur at random times there doesn't really seem to be some pattern to it.
I know that I have to update to windows 8.1 as there are apps which refuse to be installed unless I update ... So what to do because I need to update again so I can use my apps...I do recall reading something about Dynamic ticking I think? It was some command in cmd prompt like bcdedit /set disabledynamicticking yes I believe.

This time, without fail, the laptop boots.

I can live with it, but would rather not. I have the DVD, so can do a complete reinstall; however, I'd rather not if I don't have to.

Jan 19, 2013So I've had a new HP Pavilion G6 for several weeks. In the last three days, every few hours it will randomly disconnect, and won't re-connect unless I restart my computer. The other laptop in the house is not having any problems, so I don't think it's the router. I tried re-installing the WiFi driver but it's still doing it.
In my Events Log I notice that before each disconnect there's an unidentified event with the Intel Wireless as a source: "The description for Event ID 5007 from source NETwNe64 cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer."
I checked previous threads on random disconnects but they all seem to deal with a connection that disconnects every few minutes, not hours.

Jan 9, 2013I have a new Windows 8 hp pavilion all in one desktop computer and since a windows refresh, a month ago, it has stopped creating restore points and it fails to manually create a restore point also.
It leaves a message "THE RESTORE POINT COULD NOT BE CREATED FOR THE FOLLOWING REASON: ACCESS IS DENIED. (0x80070005)".
I have allotted 15% or 66.67 GB for this feature in the "configure" option. The C: drive is the only drive marked as "ON" to be restored. The only restore point listed is for a WinZip 17 installation on the day of the windows refresh, which was as I said before, a month ago. The are no other restore points at all and can't create one.
Maintenance :: Pavilion DM3 / Windows 8 Pro - Very Slow Boot After Updates
Apr 12, 2013I have a Pavillion DM3 that I have updated to Windows 8 Pro. I have left the Win7 Home on as well and have a dual boot that I was going to keep until I was happy with Windows 8.
Windows 8 installed OK on a new partition and ran very well. I loaded some other software like Office and Acrobat, and it still started and ran very well. I then let it apply the Windows and Office updates (about 70 items). It then took about 10mins to boot. Thinking I had corrupted something, I tried the auto repair, but that didn't work, so I tried refresh and rebuilt the Win 8.
I reinstall all the items I had installed previously, and applied the updates again, but exactly the same problem - very slow to boot. I have now reverted to Win7 again, and it is all working fine again. I have left the HP System partition unchanged, and as the active drive. I did try various boot rebuilds but that didn't work either.
There must be something in the updates that causes this but I don't know how to find out what.

Mar 29, 2014So my computer (HP pavilion HPE) BSOD'ed for the first time yesterday afternoon (running Windows 8.1, upgraded via download from original Windows 7, so I don't have a recovery disc). Along with the error code, the BSOD says that File: WINDOWSsystem32winload.exe is missing or contains errors.
I have tried pressing F8, Shift+F8, and holding Shift on start up, and nothing works. I know I'm supposed to upload dump files with this post, but I can't/don't know how to get my computer to the point where I can access these files. I can access the HP Startup Menu by pressing Esc on start up, which has an option to display System Information (not sure if below info is useful or not...):
