WINDOWS 8 PRO. I am trying to do normal updates and I can download them. When i do the restart I get FAILIURe TO CONFIGURe UPDATES. I believe i deleted something but nothing in trash. SYSTEM RESTORE IS my friend but i can't go back pass the 10th of this month...different problem.
View 9 RepliesMy Dell Inspiron 3520 was going quite slow for unknown reasons so I decided to 'refresh' it using Windows advanced start-up setting. Since that time I have been unable to install Windows updates. Well, I can 'install' them, but they won't 'configure'. Once installed and 'configured' 100% I get this error message advising following reboot : "Failure to configure updates. Reverting changes". The laptop then stays paralysed on that screen.
This only started to happen AFTER I "refreshed" my laptop, which was running Windows 8.1 pretty-much problem-free, though a bit slowly, until a week ago. For now I have found a temporary 'fix' by disabling automatic updates; otherwise the laptop is constantly stuck on the "failure to configure updates" error page (because, obviously, it's automatically attempting to install updates). I have done all the standard troubleshooting, including running MS Fix It, Dell Dr ('My Dell' found no hardware issues), MS Malware removal and Mcafee anti-malware. All reported "no issues". I have been in command prompt and found no issues I even tried to 'refresh' the laptop again two more times. I have also spoken to two Windows "technicians" and allowed one of them to remotely access my laptop. He found no issues or "violations".
Obviously, the temporary 'fix' of turning off auto-updates isn't a long term solution, and 'refreshing' the laptop hasn't worked (it actually caused the issue). Running Windows 8 on Dell Inspiron 3520.
I'm guessing full format needed? - Would a format resolve the issue, since a 'refresh' caused it?
I purchased a new ASUS LAPTOP which came with windows 8 installed. When i tried to restart after installing Gtalk i got this message.

So I restored my system because I had no other choice from it not booting before and it was working for a day, then when I restarted it said 'installing XX / 93 updates' so I let that run, and when It finally finished, it restarted said 'configuring windows updates XX% complete...' and then it suddenly said "Failed to configure updates. Reverting Changes." and then it looped this by restarting, trying to configure them, and then saying "Failed to configure updates. Reverting Changes." again...
I've got back into safe mode, what should I do to make it update properly again?
Someone suggested toggling "Secure Boot" in the BIOS, is that worth a try?
So when I install update 2903939 it installs fine but upon reboot it goes to 7%, reboots, reboots again as soon as the background color for the login screen shows, and then says windows was unable to update.
So far I have tried:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
SFC /scannow
Restart background intelligence service
Remove extra USB devices
Disable antivirus ( I don't have one except for bitdefender)
Renaming distribution folder in %systemroot% to .old
SFC said something couldn't be repaired and I don't really understand the log. DISM said it repaired a store component or something. I am very lost on where to go next. I cannot seem to upload the CBS.log as a .txt I get an internal error.
He says the last thing the computer did was a windows updated and the day after did not start, when i start it so comes the logo forward "VI10" and a loading circle below for a 1min or 2. then you hear the fan is increasing and it is reading something, then it jumps to a black screen for 1-2 minutes then comes "Preparing to configure Windows".
I let it stand for six hours before I turned it off and start looking try start it in safe mode, have used boot setup before on XP and W7 so know how it looks / works but I can not access it anywhere, I read somewhere you could force it with F8 but do not work .

After a BSOD and utter failure to boot (presumably a critical OS file damaged) I ran the recovery tools for a total factory reset.
Connected to the internet and worked for an hour or two, then tried a reboot. Windows update had 104 updates to process. It did them, then "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer"
This should take half an hour. After 90 minutes it has rebooted 5 or 6 times. It keeps reverting to the same "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer" message. Looks like it might want to reboot through each of those 104 updates.
I'm going to repeat the factory reset and the FIRST thing I will do is disable updates. I'm going to see how long I can work without any updates.
I am currently having an issue on my laptop at the moment where it's stuck in an infinite loop of 'reverting changes' after having tried to update and failed at 30%, I have done some reading at ways to boot into safe mode however it would appear windows 8 doesn't give me the chance.
I do not have a copy of my original windows 8 disc and am at a loss!
I have tried spamming F4, F8, F10 buttons and none are allowing me to enter boot mode.
I just bought new Asus Vivotab Smart Windows 8 tablet, after the very first windows update it failed to install some of the updates, and then after the reboot I am now stuck with the message "Failure configuring Windows updates, reverting changes".
It never gets any further than this, it never reverts, I have left it running for an entire day and have restarted several times.
This is a tablet, so there is no keyboard so I cannot press any F keys to get into recovery mode, and no CD to boot from etc.
I have installed the updates for the above, both with automatic updates on and off.

How do i get them to configure
I am trying to get things going with my Dell Venue 8 Pro, and I go through the initial setup fine. However, when I do Windows Update the network fails to connect after the following reboot.
When I look at the device/driver, it says it is working, but when I do a network troubleshooting it claims it must be a bad driver.
The driver doesn't seem to have been updated, based on the fact that the button to roll back is grayed out.
When I do a restore of my system, it works again until I do the Windows Update.
I have done this a couple of times, once with all updates, including the optional updates, and once downloading only the critical and important updates.
Other than doing each update individually, is there a reasonable way to figure out what is causing my issue?

I bought my new laptop with Windows 8. It did download some updates so after ask me do to a reset.
After on my screen I saw :

And it's still the same for 2 hour i don't what to do, cus i cant log in to restore windows.

After I launch Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64.msu the updater fails to install it.
I am new to Windows 8 with a new Asus X550E series computer. When I try to do an update to 8.1 it says and I quote "Failure configuring Windows updates Reverting changes Do not turn off you computer."

I woke up this morning and I had a Driver Power State Failure message on my computer. I've spent all day trying to get it fixed and I'm about to throw this 3 month old laptop through the window (I'm running a Lenovo Y510P with Windows 8.1).
In addition to the BSOD when I try to shut down my computer it never actually shuts down. The screen will go black for about 5 minutes but the light on the power button stays on and the computer starts back up again on its own. However it never actually gets to the desktop. The circle of dots just keeps going and going and after I force it to shut down twice the Automatic Repair kicks in but it says it couldn't fix the issue. When I enter the advanced options and do a system restore I can finally get to the desktop. When I try doing a system restore from the desktop it will get to the end and I get an error message saying it didn't work.
When I get to the desktop some things just don't work right. Right click on a folder, clicking on the file explorer pinned to the taskbar, etc. locks explorer up for a minute then nothing happens.
I've also ran SFC and a it said some files were corrupt and couldn't be repaired. Attached are my log files.
When I download some windows 8 updates - not store updates - and restart the PC. After windows boots to desktop it shows me that they are all installed, but after a few minutes they come back as uninstalled and when I install them again the problem continues. What should i do?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo, since yesterday, Windows 8.1 tries to boot, then gets halfway through, shows a sad face for a second, and then restarts. It does this again and again. Just get the message "Failure configuring Windows updates. Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer" then "Configuring Windows updates, 30% complete. Don't turn off your computer".
Then it boots, does the same thing again.
I've tried booting from the install media, but Refresh doesn't work, nor restarting in safe mode. Weirdly, pressing F2 to load BIOS, which always used to work, no longer does, it just continues trying to load Windows.
I've got an oldish PC, around 4/5 years old, with Windows 8 installed. Its got a fairly decent processor (at the time), a Q9550. Intel DP43TF motherboard.
I have two PCs..a Dell desktop and a Sony laptop(Purchased last June) yesterday I received the windows 8.1 updates so I installed them on my Dell desktop, no problems, it installed it and shut down the PC just fine and I am on it right now..but with the Sony laptop its nothing but problems..I installed the updates, it reboots just fine, but when I try shutting down the laptop it just goes back to a loop like it keeps on booting up then crashes then I have to restore it to August 9th and then it shuts down fine..so I am not sure what is going on..is there a particular update that is causing this I wont install it I just cant figure it out and I have done the system restore 3 times already..it will say I have 32 updates to install(including 1 optional one) so I just installed 30 of them to see if it would work and then I shut down the computer and same issue so something Im installing is causing this problem

This was going just fine until after it rebooted, and now it's been stuck on the "Failure configuring Windows updates, Reverting changes" screen for about the past 12+ hours. I restarted it a couple of times by holding down the power button, but it comes right back to the same screen after the Asus splash screen. Were this a laptop, I know exactly how to fix it (go to Advanced Recovery Options), but since it's a new tablet that I haven't yet connected its Bluetooth keyboard to, I'm basically stuck. I can't even boot to a flash drive because that requires a keyboard to get to the boot options.I don't have a keyboard attached to it and because the OS isn't loaded (can't get the Charms bar so I can restart it that way or boot into Safe Mode or anything.)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI attempted to update from windows 8 to windows 8.1, and it said that I need to finish all my other updates first.So I did that, and I left for a while (an hour or 2) and it was STILL UPDATING. I got intimate and shut the computer down using the power button and turned it back on only to be met by a screen that said "Failure configuring updates, reverting changes." I waited longer then before and it was just stuck there! I guess you can consider it frozen, but I can still change the brightness and the volume and the circle thing is still spinning. I can't access anything, no start menu no nothing, So my laptop is useless.
I've read online that I was supposed to wait longer, and that I should have done all the updates at once. But what has been done cant be undone, and now I need to get past this update screen. I'm using the Asus Eee Slate EP121. This happened more than once that Windows prompted me to install an update, then fails. Sometimes the update prompt disappears even though it was not installed. Today it prompted me to install an update called "Qualcomm Atheros Communications driver update for Bluetooth Module" and failed.
Error code 80070103.
My new HP ultrabook was doing updates ... And it came up with the screen saying Failure installing updates reverting changes do not power off however its been saying this for 4 hours and i can not get out of this i even attempted to power it off and upon powering it on it comes straight back to this screen!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently finished reimaging my HP Laptop with the factory Windows 8 image found on the HP recovery discs.
What happened is i wanted to update the computer to Windows 8.1 so opened Windows Update and installed all 111 updates relating to Net Framework 3.5 and Windows 8 System/Security.
When i restart the computer after a while of "Configuring Updates" it changes "Failure to Configure Windows Updates, Reverting Changes. Do not turn off your computer" and continues even though the computer self restarts multiple times.
Ive tried reinstalling the OS using the recovery partition and trying Windows Update again but it still has the same problem.
My compaq CQ58 laptop is currently trying to configure the newest windows update but it is failing and is stuck in a loop from which i cant seem to do :

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have several printers at work all hooked up to a samba share so that the whole office can use them. We have Konica Minolta, HP and Lexmarks predominantly but some other brands as well like Kyocera.
I have a fresh Win 8.1 Pro install and i have installed the printer drivers via the Windows update mechanism for all the printers. Some i've added via the samba share some via direct ip connection.
For whatever reason i cannot add/delete or config any of the printer ports as seen in the attached screen cap. I've even tried the windows Administrator account to no avail. UAC is off and i have admin rights to the pc.
I have sought support on freenode's #windows channel and googled the hell out of this topic, to avail.
I cannot replicate the issue in Win 7.
Where in control panel do I configure what apps @ startup?
