Sep 15, 2014I've been having problems with my laptop recently. I actually care less when it comes to updates since it's automatic, but I noticed that it refuses to install any drivers (which means I cannot access any USB drives or install programs that requites drivers) or updates, after searching for solutions on the internet, I found out in a website that said kb2919355 causes component store corruption that is irreparable, which is the update that I have already installed. I've tried repairing with DISM but it all fails, probably because the update causes the component store to corrupt when StartComponentCleanup is triggered.
I want this to be fixed but my restore point is already deleted since it's probably too old (which is weird that I'm having this problem since the update has been installed for months). I don't want to reinstall my Windows either, so what now?

Jul 28, 2014My Dell Inspiron 3520 was going quite slow for unknown reasons so I decided to 'refresh' it using Windows advanced start-up setting. Since that time I have been unable to install Windows updates. Well, I can 'install' them, but they won't 'configure'. Once installed and 'configured' 100% I get this error message advising following reboot : "Failure to configure updates. Reverting changes". The laptop then stays paralysed on that screen.
This only started to happen AFTER I "refreshed" my laptop, which was running Windows 8.1 pretty-much problem-free, though a bit slowly, until a week ago. For now I have found a temporary 'fix' by disabling automatic updates; otherwise the laptop is constantly stuck on the "failure to configure updates" error page (because, obviously, it's automatically attempting to install updates). I have done all the standard troubleshooting, including running MS Fix It, Dell Dr ('My Dell' found no hardware issues), MS Malware removal and Mcafee anti-malware. All reported "no issues". I have been in command prompt and found no issues I even tried to 'refresh' the laptop again two more times. I have also spoken to two Windows "technicians" and allowed one of them to remotely access my laptop. He found no issues or "violations".
Obviously, the temporary 'fix' of turning off auto-updates isn't a long term solution, and 'refreshing' the laptop hasn't worked (it actually caused the issue). Running Windows 8 on Dell Inspiron 3520.
I'm guessing full format needed? - Would a format resolve the issue, since a 'refresh' caused it?

Apr 27, 2012I'm using the Asus Eee Slate EP121. This happened more than once that Windows prompted me to install an update, then fails. Sometimes the update prompt disappears even though it was not installed. Today it prompted me to install an update called "Qualcomm Atheros Communications driver update for Bluetooth Module" and failed.
Error code 80070103.

Jun 10, 2014I purchased a new ASUS LAPTOP which came with windows 8 installed. When i tried to restart after installing Gtalk i got this message.
"Failure configuring windows updates. reverting changes. do not turn off your computer ".
I got this on last friday i.e the 6th of june, ever since i am not able to do anything with my laptop. I don't have windows 8 dvd as well. How do I reboot it?
Model number : Asus 15634 Laptop Intel Core i3 .
I also tried pressing the power button for 15 secs , still no luck. Tried f8 f9 and windows + r and windows+ X keys no luck.

May 24, 2014After a BSOD and utter failure to boot (presumably a critical OS file damaged) I ran the recovery tools for a total factory reset.
Connected to the internet and worked for an hour or two, then tried a reboot. Windows update had 104 updates to process. It did them, then "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer"
This should take half an hour. After 90 minutes it has rebooted 5 or 6 times. It keeps reverting to the same "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer" message. Looks like it might want to reboot through each of those 104 updates.
I'm going to repeat the factory reset and the FIRST thing I will do is disable updates. I'm going to see how long I can work without any updates.

Sep 15, 2014I am currently having an issue on my laptop at the moment where it's stuck in an infinite loop of 'reverting changes' after having tried to update and failed at 30%, I have done some reading at ways to boot into safe mode however it would appear windows 8 doesn't give me the chance.
I do not have a copy of my original windows 8 disc and am at a loss!
I have tried spamming F4, F8, F10 buttons and none are allowing me to enter boot mode.

Jun 21, 2014I just bought new Asus Vivotab Smart Windows 8 tablet, after the very first windows update it failed to install some of the updates, and then after the reboot I am now stuck with the message "Failure configuring Windows updates, reverting changes".
It never gets any further than this, it never reverts, I have left it running for an entire day and have restarted several times.
This is a tablet, so there is no keyboard so I cannot press any F keys to get into recovery mode, and no CD to boot from etc.

Dec 10, 2013I am trying to get things going with my Dell Venue 8 Pro, and I go through the initial setup fine. However, when I do Windows Update the network fails to connect after the following reboot.
When I look at the device/driver, it says it is working, but when I do a network troubleshooting it claims it must be a bad driver.
The driver doesn't seem to have been updated, based on the fact that the button to roll back is grayed out.
When I do a restore of my system, it works again until I do the Windows Update.
I have done this a couple of times, once with all updates, including the optional updates, and once downloading only the critical and important updates.
Other than doing each update individually, is there a reasonable way to figure out what is causing my issue?

Tablets :: Windows 8 Tablet Stuck On Failure Configuring Updates?
May 29, 2014I have an Asus VivoTab Smart that comes with Windows 8, and before I can do the 8.1 upgrade, I have to install all 112 updates. This was going just fine until after it rebooted, and now it's been stuck on the "Failure configuring Windows updates, Reverting changes" screen for about the past 12+ hours. I restarted it a couple of times by holding down the power button, but it comes right back to the same screen after the Asus splash screen. Were this a laptop, I know exactly how to fix it (go to Advanced Recovery Options), but since it's a new tablet that I haven't yet connected its Bluetooth keyboard to, I'm basically stuck. I can't even boot to a flash drive because that requires a keyboard to get to the boot options.I don't have a keyboard attached to it and because the OS isn't loaded (can't get the Charms bar so I can restart it that way or boot into Safe Mode or anything.)

Aug 27, 2014I attempted to update from windows 8 to windows 8.1, and it said that I need to finish all my other updates first.So I did that, and I left for a while (an hour or 2) and it was STILL UPDATING. I got intimate and shut the computer down using the power button and turned it back on only to be met by a screen that said "Failure configuring updates, reverting changes." I waited longer then before and it was just stuck there! I guess you can consider it frozen, but I can still change the brightness and the volume and the circle thing is still spinning. I can't access anything, no start menu no nothing, So my laptop is useless.
I've read online that I was supposed to wait longer, and that I should have done all the updates at once. But what has been done cant be undone, and now I need to get past this update screen. How do I undo the updates? I've tried safe mode and restoring it but it just takes me back to where I was before. If you need my model number or whatever, then tell me. I have an HP Laptop with Windows 8.
Unable To Boot Windows 8.1- Possible Failure During Update
Sep 15, 2014I have been running my desktop system under WIndows 8.1 since release, and I started having a problem the other day.
The system seems to have hung up completely, so I powered it down (it is usually up 24 x 7 since I use it as a DVR along with my computer usage).
It seemed to be ok when it powered up, but then a bit later it asked to reboot to finish installing updates.
It has not booted since.
During reboot, it displays the Windows logo and the spinning dots for a few seconds, and then the screen blanks, and my monitor loses signal. I have left it for quite a while and it doesn't come back. After some time, it goes into sleep mode (slowly flashing power indicator), so something is going on at some level. I have powered off and back on, and removed the power cord for a minute to see if anything different happened... it doesn't.
I have tried pressing F8 and Shift-F8 during reboots to try to get to safe mode, but so far no good. Last night, I used my laptop and seem to be able to access shares, but unfortunately it appears that the things I want/need most are not shared.
The bad part is that I haven't been able to locate my recovery disc, but I will continue to look.
I bought the system with Windows 7 right before 8.0 was released, and When 8.0 came out, I got the cheap upgrade and before loading it, installed an SSD for my C: Drive, and kept the existing HDD for my D: Everything has been running well until this incident.

What happened is i wanted to update the computer to Windows 8.1 so opened Windows Update and installed all 111 updates relating to Net Framework 3.5 and Windows 8 System/Security.

Ive tried reinstalling the OS using the recovery partition and trying Windows Update again but it still has the same problem.

Jun 17, 2014My son has an MSI Laptop running Windows 8.1. Following a recent Windows update (he cannot be more specific) he is no longer able to use his Admin (the only one) account. He sees the mouse pointer but the rest of the screen is black. Ctrl-Alt-Del does bring up a panel offering the usual options to shut down, reboot, Task Manager, etc. - but when I select Task Manager with the intention of seeing what processes are running,the dialogue does appear, but before it is properly displayed it vanishes.
Meanwhile the HDD light is burning constantly. If I simply leave the machine for 30 minutes or so, then the HDD activity subsides but there is still a blank screen. Moving the mouse pointer to the top or bottom right hand side of the screen has no effect.
Unfortunately we did not have the wits to set restore points Interestingly the other account (not administrator) is working without problem.
