Okay i already tried running sfc/scannow but live tries are not working, they are working only on the mail, the all used to work, the weather and news but now live tiles are not working?
View 5 RepliesI have the problem since a few weeks (mostly after a tile update), and I'm not the only one, my friend has it too on both his laptop and desktop, that the live tiles, or actually some of them, for example weather, are not refreshing anymore. It just shows the blue weather tile. When I open it, it works though, news the same. Also I tried to deinstall and reinstall the weather app, but now it doesnt even show the "use live tile" button anymore (look at picture).
View 2 Replies View RelatedTrying Windows 8 at work and bought new Samsung 700t tablet. Windows 8 works fine with local user (linked to live id) and all our software including Symantec Endpoint 12.1.2. As soon as I join to domain (server 2008) and reboot the live tiles no longer function. Have total reset several times and tried refresh and restore points. My guess is that has to be default behavior of Win 8 GPO compared to 2008 domain GPO. We are very plain on our policies and so far have not found anything on local computer or GPO that can correct issues.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI followed the tutorial on this site for scannow. When completed (no errors), I typed exit at the command prompt. I have only a blank screen with functioning mouse pointer. When restarting I get the hp logo, then the windows "please wait" icon for about one second then it goes black. I originally cloned windows from my sea gate 1Tb hhd to the toshiba ssd. I can boot from the hhd with no issues. Just won't boot from ssd. I would run the recovery disc but it claims I need 140 Gb to do so and I only have 128Gb.

There are a certain number of maximum rows you can add based on your screen resolution.
My screen has a 1366x768 (Not mentioned there). Based on that, I can only have 4 rows. But, what could happen if forced a fifth row with that registry hack?
I have to alt tab and then come back and then it works. Did they test this..? It doesn't do it on my laptops though.
1920x1080 is the display res at 120hz
Also the tiles ARE being clicked. They get punched in, but they don't actually do anything.

I am running 8.1 on a desktop and Yesterday the live tiles were working but today not one live tiles is updating. I have not made one change to my computer , not a thing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe metro photo app (that comes with Windows 8) is showing photos on the live tiles that were deleted over a week ago.
I've turns lives tiles on and off. I've unpinned from the start screen and then re-pinned. I deleted personal info from the tiles from the settings screen. I've verified that the photos are not on my computer (photo app is only showing the computer and skydrive).
Seen this on the start screen my live tiles on the top row and the bottom row gets cut off

I can resolve it by resizing a tile but it cuts off again when i move a tile. Its obviously a bug if you take a look at both screenshots side by side.
When I go to customize a live tile, only get 2 choices when resizing (SMALL or MEDIUM).
Most other tiles can be resized in 4 sizes (SMALL,MEDIUM,WIDE,LARGE).
why or how to fix it? Where would I go to control it?
Many of my live tiles (Weather, Fitness, Music, Games) don't show anything aside from their logos. They are turned on. I've probably quadruple checked them at this point. For troubleshooting, I have:
Verified that those tiles are turned on.
Verified that the time service is running.
Verified that all the apps and/or their licenses are synced.
Uninstalled/reinstalled the apps.
Removed McAfee (replaced it with Avast free).
Run the UI diagnostic/repair tool that you guys have in one of the long stickied threads.
Verified that they're set to animate via appearance and performance settings.
It looks like the tiles are receiving data, as the Weather app currently has a little 'i' icon in the bottom right hand corner, and there is a weather alert in my area. It's just that there's no temperature/background. It's just the blue tile with white sun. Very odd.
Refreshing this computer is not an option, as I use it for work as well as general computing use.
How do I disable the setting that prevents Windows Live Family Safety from running on Windows 8? The built-in Family Safety program isn't enough for me since I need to apply it to an administrator account.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor more than a week now, the above situation have been occurring. I have "scoured" the web and tried a lot of "solutions" and none as at yet have normalized my situation.
I am suspecting that I might need a registry solution, since I cannot refresh my installation- I upgraded to win 8 from win 7 online.
Also, the Skype app crashes almost as soon as it finishes loading and returns to the start menu. But, there is a sign it is still running and whenever you click on it, it trips off again.
I have uninstalled and re-installed several times, ran the apps troubleshooters many times, checked that the time service is running, synchronized this and that, etc to no avail.
My Mail Live tile do not have the option to turn on/off live update but the Calendar and People tiles have it yet none is updating.
After running win 8.1 for several months (mainly by running desktop and working as I always used to with occasional forays into the win 8.1 start screen and clicking tiles), I have discovered that just recently many of the tiles don't work correctly or at all.
Two different examples; in the win 8.1 start screen I can see news displayed in my 'news' tile, cant see a tile displayed in my clock tile to name 2.
If I click on the affected tiles, the screen fills with the coloured background and the news icon (or clock icon) then I get returned to the desktop with this 'tile' now an icon in the bottom menu bar, no content is shown. Some however do work such as my Facebook, internet explorer, music and LinkedIn tiles to name a few.
I don't know if it is relevant but just recently I have been having issues with Drop Box not being able to start on power up and telling me to sort out permissions. On one occasion it asked me to change inheritance settings (don't know what that is) but it did not work so I changed them back.
Upgrade from Windows 7 Home Ultimate 64 to Windows 8 64 bit
I found suggestions for:
1) Deleting OLE from the Registry under Local Microsoft Software - did not work
2) Create alternate users - did not work
3) User profile change - did not work
4) Change Display settings - did not work
I've noticed that Skydrive live tile does not work after upgrading to 8.1.
Prior to 8.1, Skydrive was live, that is it would display the contents of your folder, especially photos. Now, after 8.1, it doesn't work.
So skydrive live tile not working under 8.1?
I installed a copy of Windows 8 Professional. The "Live Tiles" on my new Start screen aren't working. I can click on the Store icon and it comes up, then immediately closes. I've turned off live updating and turned on app locations and all that. It still won't come on.
I've tried it with all my new apps, and none of them work, except for the Maps app.
Using 8.1 my weather live tile does not work if I have the option set to Fahrenheit. Once I set it to Celsius the live tile works just fine.

I have upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1. After doing so and making sure my accounts are all setup, I have found that I can not get the mail tile to act "live". I have verified it is set to live by right-clicking and seeing that link state "turn live tile off". I tried doing that and then turning it back on. I have tried rebooting. But the tile just isn't live. My other live tiles (news, finance, weather, store, etc) all seem to be live. It is only mail that I am having a problem with.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows 8.1 and apps are not working. They were perfectly fine this morning, then later today, every one of them, except like two that I know of, IE and the Store. Other than that, music, Facebook, twitter, dropbox, etc. they're not working.
I've refreshed my Windows 8, didn't fix it. I've also done sfc /scannow and it found nothing wrong.
Running a family PC, with different user login's. Users is leaving the PC even sometimes after logoff not putting the PC to sleep or switching on the PC, do not log in and leaves the PC running. (training of users, no result).
Task: Ensure the PC goes to sleep within reasonable time.
Sleep settings does not seem to work after user logoff. (3 different login profiles) all set to same standard "balanced" scheme. The standard scheme is changed/set to HDD off 20min, sleep 20 min, hibernate 240min.
A small app is called by screen saver logs the user off after 15 min inactivity with a 1 min warning screen. All working fine with logoff etc.
I had hoped the adjusted standard settings "balanced" was cascaded to the "logoff" state, but it seems to run it's own life after logoff, meaning the PC keeps running (screen goes black as set in the "standard scheme) however the power settings is not putting it to sleep, it takes hours...
The Ethernet card "hard wire" is set to not wake, the wireless adapter is disabled, lock screen is disabled.
Have also tried in the registry to set all default user schemes to = 5 (this was working in XP after logoff) but seems to have no effect in Windows 8. I'm not having Windows 8 pro, so GPO is not an option.
Here comes the questions:
Case, after logoff I want the PC to sleep after 20 min.
Where is the settings for "logoff" state (i.e. no user logged in and after user logoff) in the registry
How to changed the setting in the registry, meaning Dword, name, value for 20 min to sleep
I updated windows 8.1 pro with wmc from store.I had NO problems, received no error messages, had no dc's, the power didn't shut off, the download didn't stop .. literally nothing went wrong. After update everything worked fine. All the apps are downloaded and were working fine.
But,After 2/3 months since updated, I suddenly noticed that every live tile / folder / app / game / setting etc. which were working fine, now not working.When I clicked on any tile, nothing happened. It just went to a blank green screen because my background color is green. It appears on the left upper corner as opened but doesn't run. When I click, I am send back to Start Screen or Desktop. Even Store and Windows Setting stopped working. So, naturally i started checking the web for answers, but couldn't find a solution to the exact problem i was having. I saw countless posts of people saying "Just uninstall / re-install the apps" but at first, I couldn't get my App store app to run. Again, it was just blank after several minutes of waiting. I was able to download it after using the search bar menu on the right side of my computer, and was able to start installing some apps.
So i thought that everything was going to be ok, but then I ran into another problem where some of the apps wouldn't install, and I received an error message with the code/number of 0x80070002.
So, at this point, only a few of my apps are working due to the simple fact that I was able to re-install them, but the others I can't re-install because of this error message.
FIRST SOLUTION:I found a thread online that someone had created with a simple fix to about 2-3 errors on the tiles. This is a simple powershell script to re-register some apps so that they can run again. This worked to fix my app store app and setting, but only that apps. The app update is still not working.
I have another windows live ID, and when I log in with that Id, all my apps works normally! I am out of sorts now.
I have an ASUS s550C running windows 8 and my HDMI to my 32" RCA flatscreen doesn't work anymore. The cable works fine with the xbox, correct tv modes, but now as soon as I plug in the HDMI to the Ultrabook the Ultrabooks screen goes black and the tv screen says unsupported. I have tried extended, 2nd screen only, and all screen settings, 720/1080I etc.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba laptop running windows 8.1 and the issue that Im facing is that suddenly sound stops working, most likely when playing youtube videos. This is what I've done so far:
Reinstalling drivers (microsoft, realtek, conexant)
Upgraded to 8.1 (I had this issue as after a few weeks I installed windows 8, never happened on 7)
HDMI and headphones outputs are working just fine.
When I was on windows 8 I could make the speakers work by just clicking on disable and re-enable from the sound properties, If I disabled the microphone the speakers started to work again which I have no idea why that used to happen. Now on 8.1 the only way to make them work is by closing the lid or restarting the laptop which is pretty annoying.
These are the current (default settings) I have played with them but nothing fix the issue.
I have a Sony Vaio running Windows 8.1 Pro. I was on cs portable with a USB mouse and I pressed a few keys and the mouse stopped to work. It came up with the message that it was not recognized. I tried to uninstall the USB drivers, but had no luck. This problem has been going on for a few days. I tried other solutions but they didn't seem to work. The red LED light was on.

Right now I can't open any metro tiles, so
When i run the sfc /scannow command, it always stops at 52% and gives an error that some system files are corrupted but can not repaired.

Tried this command because of Fallen Samurai Shogun 2 not working onmy windows 8 x64 enterprise. Says command not recognised.
So I tried. SFC /Scannow
Said the windows resource protection could not start the repair service.
So I checked services: Windows module installer. It was set to manual already. It was not running though. I pressed Run. And tried again SFC/scannow.
I have done sfc/ scannow a few time and cannot fix the corrupted files. I was wondering what can I do to fix all these problem?

When I run SFC, I get "Windows Resources did not find any integrity violations", however when I run DISM, I get the message "The component store is repairable" and "Could not locate source file" messages. This seems to be inconsistent - is there something I should do, or is it normal? Just trying to understand the results when I run these.
